Hi there,
If anyone can give me instructions for ripping a CD using CDex and JAWS,
I
would really appreciate it. It seems straightforward enough, but my
computer

isn't taking the final step of actually doing anything.

I put the CD into the CD-ROM, then went to the convert menu, and, in the
name of experimentation, have tried several of the choices there. Nothing
seems to work. Any idea what step I am not taking, or mis-taking?

Thanks much,

TerriLynne

Howdy!

Open Total recorder and select options menu, open settings and arrow down
to "Global Hotkeys", check the "Enable Global Hotkeys" checkbox and you'll
see a list there, you may like to modify some of these to make things
easier with your Screen Reader so they don't get in the way.

Hello List members,
I just received a new digital talking book player in the mail.
I have a few questions about it.
For starters, this machine can play files from a USB flash drive.
What kind of format will those files need to be in an order for this
machine to play them?

I haven't tried this yet, but can this thing play in stereo?
It has a monaural speaker built in to it.
But I'm asking about its headphone jack.
I have seen some digital playback equipment that had mono speakers built
in to them before.
But when you plug a pare of headphones in to them, the sound came out in
stereo.
Is this digital talking book player one of those machines that can do
this?

Thinks in advance.
My best regards.
 John.
PS. Where is a good website to download digital talking books?

you can play one book at a time on a memery stick type device.

I am currently listening on the nls unit a mp3 book that is not nls
formatted and it can qet quirky as it never seems to play the entire
grouping of files but rather, goes through about 2 thirds the files. Not
sure why this is but i end up having to delete the earlier chapters and
the darn thing works!

Not sure about stereo, havent check that out.

Both of my sons play soccer, and they each have since they were four years
old, so I've been standing on a soccer side line every weekend for about
the

last 20 years. In that time, I've learned a little bit about soccer! Also,
the whole house is a buzz right now with soccer and world cup talk.

There are probably better explanations out there, but the one I found that
talks about the rules of soccer and how it's played is at
http://www.soccer-fans-info.com/soccer-rules.html. I'll also mention a few
things below, but if you have any question, don't hesitate to send them to
me off line. My email address is at the end of this note.

Basically, each team has ten players on the field (or pitch) and a goal
keeper. Generally they're arranged into forwards or strikers, midfieldman
or halfbacks and full backs or defenders. A team may also call the two
most

outside midfieldman wings, the upmost defender a stopper and the furthest
back defender a sweeper. Any player can go anywhere on the field, but the
goalie can only use his hands when he's in the goalie box. Only the goalie
can use his hands, and like I said, only when he's in the goalie box.

In the World Cup, they play two 45 minute halves. They also add "injury
time" at the end of the game to allow for the time when the play was
stopped
due to an injury. The clock keeps going in this case, but like I said,
they

add time on at the end of the game. If the game is tied at the end of
regulation, they play two 15 minute periods. I think the World Cup uses
"sudden death" or maybe they call it "gold ball" meaning that the game is
over as soon as one team scores in these extra periods. If the game is
still

tied after these two extra periods then they go into a "shoot out" where
each team takes five penalty shots. If it's still tied then five more
penalty shots. I'm not sure what happens when they run out of players.

In World Cup soccer, I think you only have five substitutes on the bench.
You can only make three substitutions during a game, and once a player
comes
off, he can't go back in for the rest of the game. Sometimes, if a player
is

a little dinged up, he may come off for a few minutes, while his team is
playing a man down, and then he'll come back into the game. If a player
gets
a red card, or a second yellow card, for committing a particularly
flagrant

foul then he has to leave the game and cannot be substituted for, so his
team will play a man down for the rest of the game.

Hockey is a good analogy, but there's obviously no ice or sticks in
soccer.

The goal is to kick the ball into the opposing teams goal. If a team kicks
the ball out of bounce on the side line, then the other team throws the
ball

in from the side line. If a team kicks the ball past the end line that
they're attacking then the other team will have a goal kick to put the
ball
back in play. A goal kick is also used to put the ball back in play after
a

goal. If a team deflects a ball past the end line it's defending then the
other team will get a corner kick. They kick the ball in from the corner,
and they generally try to loft the ball up in front of the goal so one of
their players can "head" the ball into the goal. Obviously, the other team
lines up in front of their own goal to stop this. This is an example of a
"set play" in soccer. If a team commits a penalty in the box in front of
their own goal then the other team gets a penalty kick, where you have
just

a single player shooting against the goalie. Penalties elsewhere in the
field result in either a direct kick, where you can score, or an indirect
kick, where the person kicking the goal cannot score directly. With a
direct

kick, the defending team will form a wall, if the ball is close enough to
the goal. The start of each half and the restart of play for other reasons
is done with a drop ball.

Probably the most confusing rule in soccer is off sides. Basically, you
cannot have a forward back in behind the other teams last defender. You
can

dribble the ball past the last defender, but you can't pass the ball to a
player of yours who's behind the last defender when you make the pass.
This
is most dramatic when a team thinks it's scored, but the goal gets waved
off

due to an off sides call.

I would guess that ESPN will assume there are a lot of first time soccer
watchers in the US, so they'll probably try to explain some of the rules
an

nuances as they go. Of course, they're not going to want to upset

There's no such thing as a perfect SD card. The point? Is that there will be
lemons so to speak regardless of the manufacturer, name etc. the second gen
Victor will handle any SDXC card thrown at it regarding capacity. The
highest I've heard used to date is the 512GB PNY SDXC which last I checked
was at $190.99. there are a decent amount though using the 256GB SDXC PNY
card as well. I myself am only using a 128GB card and haven't filled that up
yet, but I am not one who hangs on to books etc. like most seem to.
So the size is entirely up to your individual budget or lack there of. I
myself would go with the PNY cards and choose whatever size fitting your
comfort level with the cost. Amazon is a great place to go and

Also what is the best brand to buy that will last the longest period of

I've just learned that the first generation Victor Reader Stream will handle
SDXC cards, you just need to format them via the menus no different than the
second gen. sounds like good times.
I asked this on the VRStream list, subscribe information below.

Hi Bob
I've heard recordings of Bill Hicks, a very funny American comedian. I see you
have the same sir name and being from the US and all I'm wondering if you are
any relation. He was a very funny guy if a little near the bone at times.

John

OT maybe Grundig G3 radio

2017-05-02 Thread Bob Hicks
Hello list. This isn't exactly a pc audio question, but I have a Grundig G3
Globe Traveler transistor radio which I use a lot because TV sports
broadcasters do too much bsing. Radio broadcasters are more about the game.

My problem is this, all the external surfaces have become sticky. Nothing
in the house has this curse. How can I get rid of the problem?

Also, I need a replacement battery for a Reporter G2 radio. Is there a
Grundig support source state side? Thanks

Have a great day!

Bob Hicks

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try.

As for the radio, I only use it for basic needs and AM and FM work just
fine.

Have a great day!

Hi!

Not at all surprised to hear this as the quality control for the G3 radio is
nothing short of terrible, I'll put a link to the review of this radio in
this eMail.

So how to fix the sticky radio? I've had this problem before with various
radio sets and the short answer seems to be to get a dry cloth dipped in
amonia and with this thoroughly wipe the affected surface though be sure to
have a window open whilst you work.

Okay and now for the review of the G3 radio

Yes, thanks for the info. I also have the Reporter G2. I need a
replacement battery for it. Is that one you are referring too?

Have a great day!

I have the previous model referred to in teh review, took it out to remember
the radio again as its been a while since I explored the machine.

Again I say that - if you can get the Kydo 1103 as its known now - then
you're getting a really hot little radio on all bands at a bargain price.

Okay, the 1103 doesn't have all the features and functionality of some of
the more expensive radio sets but for what.. $50? You're getting a little
baby that picks up the smell of an oily rag on Medium, Long, Shortwave and
FM.
