failing an external synth route your speech to either a USB headset or USB
speaker For example, on
my desktop JAWS is on a dedicated USB speaker which allows me to run music and
what have you through
my primary sound card and send that audio to my stereo unmolested by speech.
When I do the live
webcast I route JAWS to my primary soundcard with SPL off on its own USB device
and plug an earphone
in so that speech does not enter the data stream.

An external speech synthesizer would eliminate this problem. Also, scanning the
web pate before
pressing play would reveal the controls, if any, that are accessible.

Hi. I was asked to check this out from a user point of view and didn't find
it accessible. I was
asked on behalf of a charity project to play around with pre-uploaded music
files and didn't find
the free version much use. This guy wanted to upload audio files for the
public to play such as
info regarding government benefits etc. I'll paste my response to that guy
below so you will see my
experience. Walter.

Hi Glyn. Firstly my apology; I was going through my deleted items, clearing
them out when I came
across your email. somehow it went straight to my deleted items rather than my
in box. I would
have replied sooner if I had seen it so sorry about that.

OK. This is my initial input regarding the site. The music is displayed
clearly and the play
button is easy to find and activate but that is where the simplicity ends and
the problems begin.
Once you have activated the play button and the music plays, there is no way
you can use the other
play controls because the music drowns out the screen reader and as there is no
keyboard short cut
keys trying to use them is a hiding to nothing. You have to wait for a quiet
passage in the audio
before trying frantically to find a control but the quiet period never lasts
long enough for you to
find what you want. This is the free version and I noticed there is a Pro
service but I guess you
have to pay for that but there is no way of telling if the pro version is any
more accessible than
the free version and in any case, the people who would want to play any files
you upload would use
the free service. As I've said I've only looked at the site briefly and when I
discovered getting
to the play controls during playback was problematic I didn't go any further.
As with WMP, if there
were short cut keys such as
Control+s for stop or Control+p for pause or control+m for mute
Control+or+control
+r for rewind then it would be a good service to utilise. It might be
+you
can map the keyboard and create these shortcuts but I'd need to look further
into the site and I'll
do that as soon as I can. Of course this initial summery is from a blind point
of view. People
with hearing loss or other disabilities but who have site, or even some
partially sighted folk would
be able to use it. Unfortunately though if you have no usable sight and in the
absence of play
controls accessibility then it wouldn't be of any use to them. Nonetheless you
have to consider the
majority of people who would use the facility and a minority group shouldn't be
allowed to veto
something because they are disenfranchised; you can please all of the people
some of the time and
some of the people all of the time but you will never please all of the people
all of the time.
This doesn't mean that solutions aren't sought to resolve the
disenfranchisement and that might be
by linking to another service. I will ask on the tech lists I'm on to see what
can be done and will
get back to you. Walter.

RE: SoundCloud

2015-10-17 Thread Hamit Campos
Correct. But even this depends on how loud the stream is. It may work for
sound cloud though. I've only tried it with Iheart Radio and Tune In so you
have to wait until that stream page opens in that case. Not sure about Sound
Cloud. It might work. Oh by the way, this has been so since Vista. Vista was
cool for what it was. My only beefe was the thing about how hard it was to
make an Audio CD. A CDDA formatted cd you play on a regular CD player. Other
than that though, Vista was cool. I loved it. I had a Toshiba laptop with
Vista Ultimate.

Re: voice recorder for Iphone

2015-10-17 Thread Dane Trethowan
Well I certainly didn’t read it that way, the Lightning connector is exactly
what the plug is, and that can.. we.. connect to any number of things.

Via Interface - given the nature of the discussion - he’s talking about
recording - I thought he was referring to say a Sound Device with inputs or
outputs or something similar to that, an Interface in other words to connect
other pieces of equipment, microphones, guitars, synths and so on.

Zoom H6 Handy Recorder with Interchangeable Microphone System H6

2015-10-17 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

My Birthday isn’t all that far away, always an excuse - if you’re able - to
treat yourself so thought that the Zoom Handy recorder linked to below might be
just the thing.

I have the Olympus recorders here along with my original Zoom H1, the Olympus
recorders are fine but I do like the Zoom’s way of doing things a little better
some times.

In any case, the H6 will certainly take the audio experience I’ve had from the
Zoom H1 a lot further.

Re: voice recorder for Iphone

2015-10-17 Thread ken

Hi, I've got an update on a voice recorder for ipad.

From the podcast called "talking computers" There is a ap called

simpleMic
But when I do a search on it it sais not availible.

As to the other question about lightning interface.
Sound professionals has one they want $149 that can use lepel type mic's
or better ones.

It's a stereo mic interface for Ipad's or Iphones.

If there is a usb mic that I can connect to a Ipad through an interface I'de
like to hear from you.

Thanks.

Its been a very long time since I used an iPhone but my favourite
voice recording App for the iPhone without a doubt was Voxy Recorder
which was feature rich and easy to use as well as being very
customisable for various situations, you could save custom settings to
various profiles.

I had a profile set so I could “Shake” the iPhone, the iPhone then
beeped which indicated the start of recording. Once i’d recorded
what was needed to be captured I shook the iPhone again, a beep was
heard to indicate that the recording had stopped.

I would then arrive home to find the recordings I’d made whilst out
and about right there in my eMail In-Box.

RE: Zoom H6 Handy Recorder with Interchangeable Microphone System H6

2015-10-17 Thread Hamit Campos
Isn't this thing epic? You can hook 6 mikes to it. I guess you can do 6
different tracks. Yeah you know where I'm going, I'd then make them 5.1
surround. There's a new 1 called the F8 that will take 8 mikes. Which means
7.1. Oh and what makes that 1 even more epic, is that's the first I've heard of
anyways from Zoom that will do 192 thousand KHZ. Way too epic dude. Too bad
that 1 is $1200 US.

Yeah, I don't think the Zoom H6 goes up to 192KHZ sampling frequency,
interesting as the Zoom H1 does however the H1 only supports 2 channel
recording so that may account for something.

We have to remind ourselves that Zoom and Olympus recorders don't have
the processing power of a Personal Computer or even an iPhone .

Yeah, I don't think the Zoom H6 goes up to 192KHZ sampling frequency,
interesting as the Zoom H1 does however the H1 only supports 2 channel
recording so that may account for something.

True that. If you mean CPU power. How ever, audio wise? Well the Zoom H6 and
the older H4N sound to me as good and sadly along with this as hissy as the
realtech audio on my old Enspireon 530 S desktop. Now you are correct about the
DMs. But the LS the higher you go the better. The 14 sounds as cool as the 100.
Very pro. No flor noise.

Yep, I was talking about CPU power, for what they are - audio wise - all
those little recorders are beauties.
