Bowers And Wilkins P7 Headphones, Why Shouldn't There Be Luxury Looks, Feel, Build And Sound

2015-09-25 Thread Dane Trethowan
And that’s exactly what the B&W P7 offer and a reasonably affordable price
particularly if you’re in the u.S. Where I’m told these cans can be yours for
under $300.
The P7’S are built from stainless steel and other metals with a touch of
leather plus leather ear cuffs, the cuffs are attached to the frame
magnetically and replacements are available should they be needed.
These cans are designed with portable/travel use in mind given the fold away
design and the quilted leather carrying case as part of the system but they do
come with a 6.5MM adapter for conventional stereo systems along with 2 cables,
one is for use with a mobile handset and the other is the conventional stereo
type 3.5MM jack type cable.
The cable for mobile handsets has an inline control for answering calls, volume
up/down, volume up/down and a microphone.
On hearing the headphones I was shocked, it sounded as though I was listening
to a 30 inch sub woofer in a room along with silky high tweeters, it took me a
few moments to realise that I was in fact listening to a pair of very nice cans
and then it all clicked into place, we’re talking about a B&W product after all.
I have only one complaint about these headphones, the cable could be longer
however I do appreciate that the phones are designed for portable use and if I
want a longer cable then its just a matter of plugging in an extension.
Speaking of the cable, swapping or replacement of same is easily down by
removing the left ear cuff, unplugging one cable, plugging in another and
replacing the cuff which snaps back into place.

Hello Hank:

I also used Station Playlist Studio years ago, but haven't for years. I
think you need it only to transmit live, from your own home or office, not
to transmit pre-recorded programs, which is what I do, from the remote
Shoutcast server.

Hello I know 99.9 percent of blind folks use station playlist products.
I was also a user of that product.
I needed my license codes resent to me, and down load links reissued
they have a yearly support that you pay for a year and then you get all
updates and any releases for that year that your subscription is active.
at this time I can not pay for the subscription how ever I had a
physical hard drive die and needed my codes and download links resent to
me so I can get everything back online.
I purchased stationplaylist products back in 2002
and have been a loyal customer sense then
am looking for alternitive radio automation software that works with
jaws sense I can't get stationplaylist back online at this time.
RE: station playlist download links and license info?
Hi Hank,

Unfortunately a subscription is required before we can provide download
links or spend time searching for lost registration details, I'm sorry.
Here is

Hi!
How is the detailed listening in these cans?
I mean is the sound very detailed or is it just for dj use?
I want something for hard heavy metal symphonic rock/pop and classical music.
Would you suggest me to buy these cans?

This B&W set even give my Senheiser reference set I've had for 10 years
a good run for their money, you can hear the audible difference.

The P7's are the best I've heard particularly in their price range, no
emphasis on any particular part of the audio frequency spectrum, if
there's music to be played or spoken word to be heard then that's what
you're going to enjoy, the absolute detail.

I have to agree with Dane here, which might come as no surprise, since
I have always appreciated the sonic quality, if not the price, of B&W
products. I purchased a set of these a few months ago. I already had an
excellent pair of AKG Q701 phones. The only drawback with those is that
the use of a portable headphone amp with dac really helps when you're
listening via an i-device or any other portable, I would imagine. And
the cord on my AKG's is LONG, quite the opposite of the cable on the
P5s. The P5s are really outstanding, even without a preamp. I mean, who
wants to mess around with a preamp when you're out somewhere, like at
the beach or on the bus or whereever that isn't home? I don't mind the
short cable, since I do use these exclusively with i-devices, not with
my home stereo preamp. I still love my akgs, but these p5s are
outstanding and more practical to use.

Hi all. I'll try and make this request as simple as possible but it is
about a subject I know nothing about so if I display some ignorance then I
ask your tolerance.

I'm involved with a government funded project that is based around helping
disabled people to understand the services that are on offer to help them
decide for themselves the level of independence they can handle and the
level of help they need and how to get the funding to accomplish this. For
those in the UK this deals with the SDss service (Self Directed Support
Scotland).

The guy in charge would like to provide audio recordings of varying aspects
of this service but the problem is where to host them so they are accessible
to all.

He sent me a link to www.soundcloud.com to check it out for accessibility
and when I played the music tracks that were there I as a blind person could
not access the other play controls as the music drowned out the screen
reader. These controls did not have any keyboard shortcuts so were
impossible to hear until the music ended. This would be fine for those who
can see a screen but not for those who can't.

Does anybody know of a service, some host where these files can be posted
and can be accessed by all and that the play controls can be accessed by
keyboard commands? Free services would be preferred but at this point
anything is of interest. If anyone can help with a place to place these
audio podcasts then I'd be grateful for your help. Walter.

Hello Walter:

A podcast (a contraction of Ipod and broadcast) is an audio file that by
definition is provided as an RSS feed, so it may be accessed by
podcatchers; there is one of those available free from the UK by Alistair
King, in the webbie.org.uk website.

To play a podcast online, from the server, you must either use Flash Player
or the new label provided by HTML5; controls for the former abound,
some with fast-key controls, controls for the latter can similarly be
provided, I think the AFB provides such a player free.

I would think it best that an organization such as you describe would use
its own domain and host its own podcast; it is something that although has a
learning curve, is not that hard.

I would also suggest that you make it available for download as well a to
listen online, in addition, of course, to the RSS feed that does just that.

Humberto

Does anybody know of a service, some host where these files can be posted
and can be accessed by all and that the play controls can be accessed by
keyboard commands? Free services would be preferred but at this point
anything is of interest. If anyone can help with a place to place these
audio podcasts then I'd be grateful for your help. Walter.

2015-09-25 Thread Casey
Hi okay for classic rock and heavy metal and rock would you all say that

Th ease are the speakers that I would like to get and I know that there
or more expensive pairs out there but I could afford these.

So all thoughts on thees are welcome.

Hi Hank,

Unfortunately a subscription is required before we can provide download
links or spend time searching for lost registration details, I'm sorry.

I don’t its a question of what’s best, everyone likes different things. The
question here is about good value for money and good headphones for the price.

As I initially stated, - in my view - the B&W P7 certainly give you that for
their money, great and natural speaker type sound, incredible tough build,
luxury finish etc.

Re: Bowers And Wilkins P7 Headphones, Why Shouldn't There Be Luxury Looks, Feel, Build And Sound

2015-09-25 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ah thanks for mentioning Headphone amps, I should think that if you want the
best sound from an iPhone then one of these would go very nicely with a set of
good headphones, Apple devices unfortunately don’t exhibit great sound quality
- listen to your music through something like a Samsung Note4 through a good
pair of headphones and you’ll soon hear the difference -.

Anyway back to the headphone amplifier, the one I have has its own DAC’S
onboard so its not relying on the DAC’S in an iPhone or whatever device you’re
carrying around in your pocket.

The use of an amp gives the user far more flexibility when it comes to the
choice of headphones, the Grado SR60I headphones are incredible value for money
at $60 however they don’t go well with an iPhone on their own as they’re not
too efficient but with the help of a headphone amp? Well the combination just
transforms the listening experience totally.

There are many headphone amps available, I don’t use an iPhone at the moment
but the headphone amp I used with my iPhone 6 plugged into the dock connector
and clipped onto my shirt pocket, shirt collar etc.

The one I use with my Note4 - not that I need to use that often - is the same
sort of design but plugs into the USB port of the Note4.

2015-09-25 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ah yes, there are people who would ask why spend such money? Unfortunately
those people will never know what great sound is like, that’s up to them of
course and I’m not knocking them but great sound to listen to is totally
enjoyable and - given everything that’s happened over the last 30 years or so
with technology - never become more affordable than it is now, in general the
sonic quality we’re hearing has improved out of sight but the old rules still
apply, the main being that you need to look around and do your homework before
buying and - to some degree - you get what you pay for.

The sort of sound the B&W P7 gives is the sort of sound I had to pay $1200 for
10 years ago so what’s that now, a third of the price with the P7? Not to
mention the fact that the P7’s are far more comfortable and enjoyable to wear.

And that’s exactly what the B&W P7 offer and a reasonably affordable price
particularly if you’re in the u.S. Where I’m told these cans can be yours for under
$300.
On hearing the headphones I was shocked, it sounded as though I was listening to a
30 inch sub woofer in a room along with silky high tweeters, it took me a few
moments to realise that I was in fact listening to a pair of very nice cans and

I have only one complaint about these headphones, the cable could be longer
however I do appreciate that the phones are designed for portable use and if I
want a longer cable then its just a matter of plugging in an extension.
Speaking of the cable, swapping or replacement of same is easily down by
removing the left ear cuff, unplugging one cable, plugging in another and
replacing the cuff which snaps back into place.

Obviously, one can do what one wishes with one's money. But if I were
primarily listening to sports, I'm not sure I'd spring for something
like the p7. For me, listening to essentially talk doesn't require the
fidelity and cost of something like a p7. But different strokes, as
they say.

Yes Hank, it is exactly an Auto DJ setup, transmitting 24/7 from the server,
pre-recorded programs instead of songs.

Yep, I tend to agree with that, probably a Plantronics something or other would
be a lot better for sports and that sort of thing.

I know someone who bought a pair of P7’S for Skype communications, as you say
its their money but I would add that to spend that sort of money for Skype
communications only? Well that’s a lot of money for Skype, different if you
have a nice music system which you wish to enjoy to the full.

Really, people would question buying these for movie audio? I mean I know most
people wouldn't perhaps play film audio over their headsets, but to say a head

2015-09-25 Thread Hamit Campos
Yeah and actually the more I think about it it's true. I heard some BNW
speakers once on youtube and even threw the guy's not so good camera they
sounded epic. This person was playing the ship fight at the end of A New Hope
and the X Wings were clearer then I've ever heard them. Keep in mind this is on
youtube and threw a meh camera, so how must those speakers sound in actual
life? I want them homy. Thing is that they were several thousand dolars. So
yeah I know these people make good epic stuff. But you can't necessarily judge
1 product by another. Especially a cheeper 1 by 1 that is several thousands.

I don’t its a question of what’s best, everyone likes different things. The
question here is about good value for money and good headphones for the price.

As I initially stated, - in my view - the B&W P7 certainly give you that for
their money, great and natural speaker type sound, incredible tough build,
luxury finish etc.

Hello Hank:

No, I don't use Centova Cast either, I create my playlists directly in
Shoutcast 2. I installed Shoutcast 2, but you could use Icecast 2 instead
if you prefer, actually there is a version of that called Icecast KH that
allows you to stream in AACP and be reproduced by Flash Player.

What I did was to set up a VPS and installed Shoutcast, then wrote some PHP
scripts, but you do not actually need scripts, what you need is to read up
on the structer of the streamer software, be it Shoutcast or Icecast, upload
the audio files to the appropiate folder for each playlist and create the
calendar file that the server needs to run each playlist at a certain time,
with the backup of the list called "rotatio" to play when another playlist
is not playing, before the next scheduled one begins.

There is a learning curve, you have to read a lot about either Shoutcast or
Icecast, but once you master it, you can run your station from pre-recorded
files as I do. You would still need Station Playlist Studio if you or one
of your presenters wants to do a live program.

Bert
