Re: Victor reader Stream, Fello List Member Was Absolutely On The Ball

2014-04-15 Thread Joy Tilton
I still hold on to the Stream for the very fact tnat none of the iPhone
aps have yet to support the web braille format, whether it be voice
dream, Bard Mobile or Bookshare, or any other reader available for the
iDevices. Furthermore, since I'm a bookaholic, one of the other devices
is going to run down in battery before the day is through usually. lol
Another furthermore, the Stream does not rely solely on a proprietory
drag and drop method when hooked to a computer.

Well, it might be simular to the stream, but there is stil nothing
like a blind friendly device and the way it works.

I'm interested when you say "Easier" as its really subjective because
there are so many ways to do things on an iPhone, I suggest perhaps
that you download the demo of Voce Dream and try it for yourself

another.

I use the oOtunes App for radio stations - oOtunes is the same system
used by the Victor Reader Stream as it happens - and skipping between
radio stations is about as logical as it gets, press the previous or
the next buttons, select a station from your favourites list, search
for or browse stations, press stop to stop or pause to pause and
continue recording depending on your settings, shake to stop or start
etc.

Yes, I got also an IPhone and five other players. They all help me and

apple system is not good enough for that and besides, its much easyer
for example to activate the sleep timer or just to quickly skip to the
next radio station on the stream or other player than it would be to
do on the IPhone. There are so much disadvantages to use a phone for
all of this exclusively that I hate it, but yes voicedream is a good
app. I rather get an IPad mini to help out where the IPhone cannot
always do enough.

Hi Dane,
Well you can't compare apples and oranges.
A physical hardware unit whith lots of real keys, and various good

But I must admit it's a real nice app. I have both a Victor Streem 2

Again, I'm not discussing this to get into an argument about the
virtues of

a Victor Reader Stream, if you don't have an iPhone then all well
and good,

but if you have an iPhone etc then would you really want to spend
$400 for

much of what you have already?

hi,
well Victor streem 2 or whatever they prefer to call it is a real

You can listen to radio, look up stuff on the net, and a whole lot

so comparing it to a simple iphone app isn't comprehensive.

Certainly one of those "I'll do it from my iPhone" kind of guys
yes, for
me the Victor Reader Stream purchase would just be wasting a whole
heap of

money, another list member put forward this view quite some time
ago, long

before I had a chance to play with Voice Dream.

Now before others say I'm not seeing the full picture? Well I
believe I

am, I know there are others that don't have iPhones however the Victor
Reader Stream itself - in Australia at any rate - is far from a
cheap item

at over $400.

To be honest, I use my VRStream for reading talking books, and the
occasional web braille book, or until the battery dies, then it's Bard
Mobile on the phone, and I use voice dream for reading such things as
pdf files or listening to audios of tv shows when ripped into mp3 format.

I'd rather my VRStream battery go down before my iPhone battery does.

Hi,

I use Voice Dream quite often. However, I still depend on my VR Stream if I
am away for hours at a time because I am not interested in spending the
required cash on a juice box in order to replace my existing iPhone case.
Therefore, I still need a source other than my phone for extended hours of
reading in order to keep my phone available for calling a cab to go home at
the end of the day. Voice Dream is great though in many cases especially
when I am home and using WiFi and Drop Box.

2014-04-15 Thread Aidan
Another thing wich is not yet said, one of the biggest problems with
voicedream is that you never can open a document the way its
formatted. Or let me say you cannot open a raw file, Voicedream
extract text from all the supported formats wich means that you always
ending up with a bunch of text files, regardless of weather the actual
file was html docx and so on, and that to me is really ashaimed.
Stream is tops, and may all bookreaders live forever. We don't need to
use one device for everything. Not always at least. Don't always make
sense. If you would load up an html file in voicedream, you would
never be able to navigate by levels 1 fru to 6 as its just text. All
the dedicated players allow to open the supported files directly. You
don't have to lock a stupid screen when using the stream, and if you
listening to radio then you can also just easyer find the next
station, and you can type in a station number to go to directly, wich
you cannot do on the IPhone apps, and when you skip between stations,
you stil have to find the previous and next buttons wich in my view is
a waste of time if you on the stream don't have to worry about that.

Interesting perspective on nog using a single device for everythimg, but for
those in less-develloped countries, especially like Latin America in which
blindness products are expensive, we need to make do with I have! I use my
IPhone for reading aside from its regular function. What happens if your Victor
breaks? Good to have a backup such IPod/IPhone!
