RE: Tuners: Amazing What You Find

2014-03-22 Thread André van Deventer
I'm not surprised! We live in the kind of society where most people think
the newest is necessarily the best I have a good friend who uses sound
equipment which is more than 40 years old and which most definitely compares
very well with the best modern equipment available. For good quality sound
equipment you can most definitely go for well cared for second hand stuff
for a fraction of the price of new equipment!

Hi!

The following sample comes from a tuner I picked up on eBay for 99 cents,
the Sony STJX4 which i estimate to be around 30 years old but - after
hearing this sample - I don't think anyone will be caring too much about the
age of the equipment.

I have made 4 samples and this one was taken from radio 2CA in Cannberra
Australia which is around 300 miles from me.

Note that during the sample you'll hear the signal fade and another station
on the same frequency will be heard, that station is in South Australia,
around 400 miles from me in a different direction.

If link doesn't work the first time then try again in a few minutes, file
may still be uploading to Dropbox.

not sure if it qualifies as audio but at least its pc related

2014-03-22 Thread Mike Bernard
Hey everybody,

I got a message on my computer the other day, telling me to update Adobe
Flash player. However, due to the Player's horribly inaccessible installer,
I wasn't able to activate the button necessary to install the update. Is
there an accessible way that I can update Adobe Flash Player without having
to use that inaccessible installer? Thanks.

WinAmp / Windows Media.

2014-03-22 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Please can anybody tell me if there is a format for Media Player like
WinAmp, where the playlist can be given as a file with a specific extension
which if I remember rightly is something like .m3u or .pls or . . .

I need to send .mp3 files out as .zip archives, which when extracted and
played in Media Player, play track-by-track-by-track enabling a person to
skip but also the files must play in WinAmp, so I need include a .m3u file.

also, would I simply put the files into the playlist file like for WinAmp,
for example:

track-01.mp3
track-02.mp3
. . .

Thanks.

Simon,

works fine here, you need to read the dialogue and activate the buttons, it
does not work without actions from you.

Send me a screen-shot of what happens when you try it.

I've just tried it and there are loads of search and so on lines, then some
links for update, download Etc. this is what you need.

You can go directly to:

www.adobe.com

bring up a list of links and press f for Flash. Activate the Flash Player

install the Chrome browser and the Google Toolbar if you don't want them.

Re: WinAmp / Windows Media.

2014-03-22 Thread Barry Chapman
Hi Colin,

Firstly, .m3u is more generic and will generally open the media player you have
as the default for opening .mp3 files. This can be
Winamp, Windows Media Player or something else. .pls is more specifically for
Winamp and the equivalent for Windows Media Player is
.asx. Also, .ram is for RealPlayer and .qtl is for the QuickTime player. It
should be noted however, that if you select all file
types in Winamp, it will take over .asx.

The format for file names in a .asx file is the same as for a .m3u file.

Thanks,
Barry Chapman

2014-03-22 Thread Mike Bernard
Well,
I finally got Adobe Flash player 12 installed and although I did uncheck the
box that offered the Google Crome, somehow the stinker still installed
itself on my machine. I've tried to remove it with Revo uninstaller and I've
tried the normal Windows uninstall, but I still can't get rid of the darn
thing. I wonder why is it that when we install programs on our computers,
why do we always get those silly offers? Have any of you ever had issues
uninstalling google crome? Elizabeth, according to Garry, you can get Adobe
Flash player by going to
www.adobe.com, and looking for the link that says Flash player. It would
probably be best if you brought up your list of links to narrow down the
search, as there are lots of stuff on the Adobe site.
