Have you tried Plantronics 995? If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning start? - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Friday, February 07, 2014 8:57 PM Subject: Good Headsets To Use With Skype Etc One of my favourite headsets for Skype and similar applications is the Plantronics Audio 478 Headset, I've had my original pair for 2 years and I just bought another. This headset is completely portable coming in its own travel bag, portable it may be but its durable enough to sit on your desk and be used as a main headset for your desktop computer. The headset is a stereo type with quite good sound for the money but certainly not audiophile sound as one would find with something like the Grado SR60I headphones but quite acceptable for Skype and everyday listening. The Audio 478 headset is an on the ear type thus you can hear what's going on around you. The headset employs DSP technology for noise cancelation and signal processing. The microphone of the Audio 478 rotates downwards from the left and can be adjusted once lowered. For a headset of this price the microphone sounds very nice and doesn't exhibit the quality of talking through your nose type sound that some microphones do on these sorts of headsets, I had terrible trouble with a logitech pair in this regard. An inline control panel provides volume, mute and answer/hangup buttons, these buttons can be manipulated through the Plantronics Audio 478 control panel which is a downloadable add-in to Windows, you can customise what the buttons do, a plugin is also available for Skype to allow Skype to take advantage of the answer/hangup capabilities of the Audio 478. The headset is a USB type and the cable is fairly rugged, again a great plus for this headset over the older Logitech pair I owned whose cable started curling and perishing after a very short period of time. The Plantronics Audio 478 in my view is very reasonably priced, I paid $65.00 for my new pair and $70.00 2 years ago when I bought my original pair so the price hasn't changed all that much. The price I paid is in Australia dollars so people living in the U.S. will probably pay quite a bit less. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954

This is a Wireless type of headset right? It has a 40 foot range and should work with the Mac, I notice from the item description that the headset doesn't need any software for it to work. RE: Lowering Bass
Hi all, In the same effects menu within the latest Goldwave, you have options to boost bass, remove base, reduce base, and for that matter do the same to mid and treble. This has the advantage over Norman Octon's solution, that you play with one end of the dynamic range at a time. In his example, by improving the base you can have problems with the treble. There again, if the result of his solution is too much treble, you can reduce it. And, of course, if you don't like the results of your action wen you hear them, you can always undo. Sound Forge Pro 11
Hi, Currently, I use version 6.0D of Sound Forge, but have been considering upgrading to Pro 11. Has anyone tried this version? If so, how do you like it in terms of accessibility and usability? I've downloaded the demo version of 11, and am wondering if it can be installed alongside version 6? Thanks. Re: Sound Forge Pro 11
Hello, you can install multiple versions of Sound Forge, just like you can of Jaws. I remember one pc I had for a long time where I had versions 6 7 and 8 installed, just because I never got around to uninstalling them. I don't know if you have used Jim's scripts for SF, but he built some for version eleven, and his page seems to say that there's not much change in version eleven from version ten. I know that they have not moved to the ribbon concept though. http://www.snowmanradio.com/ to take a look at what he says. Matthew

Yes, you can have multiple versions of Sound Forge on one computer. I currently have versions 10 and 11. I believe everything you can do in version 6 you can do in 11, but there are some things that are not all that accessible, and I wouldn't say that accessibility improved. However, some bugs have been fixed and version 11 will work with later versions of Windows. Hi Tim, Simple really. Partly I do some sound restoration for people and the Goldwave noise reduction is not up to Sony's but also some of the Izotope repair stuff you get with Sound Forge is awesome.
