instead of 40HZ for the Expressionist Ultra speaker system, nothing to
worry about then in that area, both speakers have a top frequency of
20KHZ.

The only other annoyance about the Sound sticks was that the controls
were on the speakers themselves - volume was on 1 speaker and volume
for the sub-woofer was on the woofer -, yes an annoyance but not a
critical point, something that wouldn't turn me off buy this speaker
setup.

So has anyone had any experience with the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks
and what do you think or perhaps you have another recommendation or -
even better - perhaps you know of where I can get another Altec
Lansing Expressionist Plus speaker system .

Is micro the brand? If so I've not heard of that 1 before.

Found some "Altec Lansing Expressionists speakers on eBay, they're different 
from what I had but they'll probably do for the moment whilst I do some further 
research on the topic of computer speakers, I'll let the list know what I think 
of them, should have them by mid week.

Ah I see, I'm sure I had some of those at some stage of the game and yep, they 
weren't bad.

I didn't see any mention of the brand when I was reviewing the "Best Computer 
Speakers" page I spoke of earlier but I wouldn't at all be surprised if the 
brand was mentioned and I missed it, so much information up there.

Audacity is free and allows for multitracking with control over
individual tracks.  It also has more extensive effects and better noise
reduction than Goldwave, but it is more complex than Goldwave and takes
longer to master. Goldwave has a reasonable price, but cannot
multitrack.  The key strokes in Goldwave are easier to use.  Both work
well with speech.  There is a free guide on using Audacity with speech

I have a pair of the Soundstix 2's and I love them.  I set the volume fairly 
high on the speaker and then control the actual listening level from volume 
controls on my keyboard.


They're nicely balances, feel solid, look good and sound great at low and 
high volumes.  I've read that the 3rd iteration featuring bluetooth are not 
as good.  I would like an additional input jack, but tht's not a feature.

"Best Computer Speakers" in and found to my amazement a web page that lets 
you compare all sorts of atributes for computer speakers, size, wattage, 
controls, features and so on.


From the little time I had to look at this page I found that the nearest 
competitor to the Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system seemed 
to be the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks, audio specs seem the same except 
that the Sound Sticks only have a low end of 44HZ instead of 40HZ for the 
Expressionist Ultra speaker system, nothing to worry about then in that 
area, both speakers have a top frequency of 20KHZ.


The only other annoyance about the Sound sticks was that the controls were 
on the speakers themselves - volume was on 1 speaker and volume for the 
sub-woofer was on the woofer -, yes an annoyance but not a critical point, 
something that wouldn't turn me off buy this speaker setup.


So has anyone had any experience with the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks and 
what do you think or perhaps you have another recommendation or - even 
better - perhaps you know of where I can get another Altec Lansing 
Expressionist Plus speaker system .

Now that's the sort of information I'm interested in, I've ordered a 
pair of Soundsticks 2, they're easily available on eBay.


I understand that the Soundsticks have touch volume controls on the 
speakers so that explains why you control the volume from the computer 
itself, nothing wrong with that.


I've only ever found 1 good set of Bluetooth Speakers and that was the 
Bose Sound Link and the price was quite good for a Bose product at $330.00.


I'm going to try the Braven 650 Bluetooth Speaker in a few weeks, thist 
unit also gets very good reviews and is Bluetooth 4.0 compatible.

If you're looking for a nice portable speaker, I'd say go for the
Desaia Beat Box. Rechargeable battery that lasts for ages, bluetooth
compatible with iOS devices, with previous/next and play/pause
buttons, and it has a 3.5MM input on it as well so it can also be used
with devices that don't support bluetooth.  For the size and the price
of it, it's a great speaker.

Portable Bluetooth Speaker Systems

Are these speakers Bluetooth 4 compatible? So many aren't but the Braven 650 
speaker system I mentioned is.

Bluetooth 4.0 sounds far better than previous versions and later devices should 
be compatible with it, certainly iPhone 5, 2012 and later Macbook machines and 
Samsung Galaxy S3 and later are compatible, I'll be using a Bluetooth Speaker 
system with my Samsung Galaxy S3 so having something which is Bluetooth 4.0 
compatible is important to me.

Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound receiver, Accessible Via An App

Hi!

Here's a message I sent to a Mac discussion list, the message doesn't 
specifically discuss Mac's or iPhones, rather the eMail discusses a very nice 
Denon AV Receiver I have and how I manage to access it, thought the list would 
be interested and apologies if the message isn't quite on topic.

I've had the Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound Receiver for just over 3 months now 
and - with the help of the Denon "remote App - the device is a joy to use, I 
can use much of the functionality of the Receiver without the App but using the 
app gives me so much access to so much more information on the receiver, its 
status and its functions than the remote controller alone could do.

There are many points to this Receiver and - in some ways - I really do think 
that the word "Receiver' is the wrong word to describe such a unit, perhaps 
"Entertainment" or "Media" Center would be more accurate.

The Receiver has built-in Internet radio thanks to the vtuner Internet radio

have a link to the app you are referring to I'd appreciate it.  I do have a
Denon remote app but it's by a third party dev and although it is useful, I
don't seem to have access to everything I would want.  I have a Denon

I'm not sure whether the Denon Remote App is developed by a third party, I used 
iTunes to search for the Denon Remote App.

Actually I downloaded the app long before I bought the AVR2113 Receiver, I 
wanted to see if I could access the app and find out just how accessible the 
App was, thankfully the Denon Remote App had a "Demo Mode" so that gave me a 
lot of clues as to how accessible the App would be when i purchased the 
receiver, the "Demo Mode" of course didn't cover everything specific to the 
AVR2113 so many more pleasant surprises were in store for me .

I hope you're enjoying your Denon product, I don't know anyone who hasn't 
enjoyed a piece of Denon equipment .

The satellite units are about a foot tal and two inches in diameter.  They 
are round with the touch controls for volume on the right hand speaker. 
They appear to be two columns or sticks on your desk.  They are good and 
heavy with about a 3 to 4 inch cylindrical base to them.


The woofer looks quite like a small bee hive and sits on 3 or 4 small feet 
that allow sound to escape from under the unit.  It really should be placed 
under a desk.


The design is visually appealing and they are a part of the industrial 
design display at the NYC Museum of Modern Art.  I believe they were 
originally intended to be used with one of the early Macs.


I just read an ad/review of some new bluetooth/air play speaker/sound units 
from Cambridge Audio called MINX.  The review made them sound interesting.

"Best Computer Speakers" in and found to my amazement a web page that 
lets you compare all sorts of atributes for computer speakers, size, 
wattage, controls, features and so on.


From the little time I had to look at this page I found that the nearest 
competitor to the Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system seemed 
to be the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks, audio specs seem the same except 
that the Sound Sticks only have a low end of 44HZ instead of 40HZ for the 
Expressionist Ultra speaker system, nothing to worry about then in that 
area, both speakers have a top frequency of 20KHZ.


The only other annoyance about the Sound sticks was that the controls 
were on the speakers themselves - volume was on 1 speaker and volume for 
the sub-woofer was on the woofer -, yes an annoyance but not a critical 
point, something that wouldn't turn me off buy this speaker setup.


So has anyone had any experience with the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks and 
what do you think or perhaps you have another recommendation or - even 
better - perhaps you know of where I can get another Altec Lansing 
Expressionist Plus speaker system .

Harman Kardon Sound Sticks

Just can't wait till my Sound Sticks arrive .

Regarding Airplay speakers? Well you have some really good stuff out there now 
and some very poor stuff so be careful.

The set you mentioned seem okay and the other I'm looking at are the Bose Sound 
Air, you can buy an optional rechargeable battery pack for them if you want the 
Sound Air to be portable, move it from room to room etc.

I was able to find a brand new pair of my altech Lancing acs 340 speakers on 
ebay. If you can't find yours these are a good alternative. From what I have 
heard you describe your  speakers the 340s may be a bit weeker than yours 
but they are still a good set of 2.1 speakers.

The woofer looks quite like a small bee hive and sits on 3 or 4 small feet 
that allow sound to escape from under the unit.  It really should be 
placed under a desk.


The design is visually appealing and they are a part of the industrial 
design display at the NYC Museum of Modern Art.  I believe they were 
originally intended to be used with one of the early Macs.


I just read an ad/review of some new bluetooth/air play speaker/sound 
units from Cambridge Audio called MINX.  The review made them sound 
interesting.

Subject line displays the grim reality, was working away here when there 
was a crackle and the smell of smoke rising from the sub-woofer of my 
Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system so that looks to be the

"Best Computer Speakers" in and found to my amazement a web page that 
lets you compare all sorts of atributes for computer speakers, size, 
wattage, controls, features and so on.


From the little time I had to look at this page I found that the nearest 
competitor to the Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system 
seemed to be the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks, audio specs seem the same 
except that the Sound Sticks only have a low end of 44HZ instead of 40HZ 
for the Expressionist Ultra speaker system, nothing to worry about then 
in that area, both speakers have a top frequency of 20KHZ.


The only other annoyance about the Sound sticks was that the controls 
were on the speakers themselves - volume was on 1 speaker and volume for 
the sub-woofer was on the woofer -, yes an annoyance but not a critical 
point, something that wouldn't turn me off buy this speaker setup.


So has anyone had any experience with the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks and 
what do you think or perhaps you have another recommendation or - even 
better - perhaps you know of where I can get another Altec Lansing 
Expressionist Plus speaker system .

Man I'm loving this. This would be exelent. Is it 7.1? Can it handle 4K? If
so, this would be perfect for an XPS media center PC from Dell. I'm loving

Here's a message I sent to a Mac discussion list, the message doesn't
specifically discuss Mac's or iPhones, rather the eMail discusses a very
nice Denon AV Receiver I have and how I manage to access it, thought the
list would be interested and apologies if the message isn't quite on topic.

I've had the Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound Receiver for just over 3 months
now and - with the help of the Denon "remote App - the device is a joy to
use, I can use much of the functionality of the Receiver without the App but
using the app gives me so much access to so much more information on the
receiver, its status and its functions than the remote controller alone
could do.

There are many points to this Receiver and - in some ways - I really do
think that the word "Receiver' is the wrong word to describe such a unit,
perhaps "Entertainment" or "Media" Center would be more accurate.

The Receiver has built-in Internet radio thanks to the vtuner Internet radio
system, allows access to Spotify, Last.Fm and so forth through the menu
system of the Receiver and through the Denon Remote app itself, you can even
access Podcasts and video services such as Flicker.

I won't write at length about the functionality of the Receiver through the
app as this would take around 3 weeks to sum up so perhaps if people are
interested enough then they can ask specific questions and I'll do my best
to answer them given the fare knowledge I now have of the Receiver gained
over the last 3 months.

I would like to touch on what I regard as being an incredible feature of
this Receiver and its associated app and that is the built-in FM tuner and
the tuners RDS feature.

RDS stands for Radio Data System, this allows for transmission of data on
the FM band using a sub carrier of a transmitter, for example BBC Radio 4
could transmit data alongside the audio signal which might display the name
of the current aired programme, the current time of day and so forth.
Smooth FM might use the RDS to display the current title and artist of the
track playing or what the next track might be.

In any event you can actually have your IOS device read the RDS data to you
from the Remote App, this is the first accessible way I've seen of accessing
RDS data.

Yes, its 7.1 and and 4K compatible, meets all your requirements and gave the 
Best Bang for your buck in receivers I could find, plenty of quality power and 
all the features you need without compremising quality.

The receiver delivers 100 watts RMS per channel and you can use channel 6 and 7 
as a second independent zone, for example you can have your 5.1 surround in 
your lounge room and use channels 6 and 7 in a second room with a separate 
source like a CD player etc.

Has 6 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output amongst a wide array of connection 
possibilities.

The AVR2113 is far from Denon's top model but for the price of around $500.00 
its very good value in my opinion.

best bluetooth speaker fore the money

I couldn't resist chiming in on this speaker discussion. I recently got a 
bluetooth and MP3 speaker that gives the most bang fore the buck. Its the 
Cambridge Oontz. Its only about the size of a soda can and has a passive 
radiator that allows it to go down in frequency to an amazing 60HZ. You can 
really feel the vibration at base frequencies when you touch the top of the 
speaker. You won't hear thumping base like from your stereo, but it is there 
especially if your close to it. The best thing though is how well balanced the 
sound is. It sounds really natural and plays loud with out distortion. Its 
solidly built and costs only $70 in the US. Its said to sound better than the 
Jamm box witch costs double that. Just thought you guys would like to know.

That company make some good stuff and there are some real bargains to be had in 
the Bluetooth Speaker market, I bought a Uniden BTS50 for $20.00, it fits in 
your hand but has an incredible sound with the best speakerphone technology 
I've heard.

However, I will be abandoning that now that I have Bluetooth 4.0 on a lot of my 
devices, most of these speakers are bluetooth 3.0 or even bluetooth 2.0, when 
you hear Bluetooth 4.0? Well you just won't want to go back, sounds just as 
good as Airplay.
