Re: Windows 7 Sound Scheme Nightmares

2012-01-07 Thread RicksPlace
Marv: When do you remember it starting to fail? It is most likely that some
piece of software you installed since then has overridden some setting
someplace.
Try to recall when you remember hearing that sound for the last time or
first noticed it was not there. Then see what software you installed in
between those times. That is what I would consider the most likely culprit
unless you have mucked about with any audio settings during that period.
If you can narrow it down to a possible application then you can e-mail or
call their support folks and ask them what they did to turn off those
sounds. If they help good, if not perhaps they can tell you how to reverse
what they did. Otherwise it would be a matter of,as you have done, Googling
until you can figure out how to override any settings of third party
software. that may not even be possible if the software ReSets the value
every time it is run and you may have to either do a system restore, if that
would work and I'm not sure about that, or uninstall the software and try
and ReSet the values manually.
But, perhaps someone on list will have experienced something similar and
have a better answer.

Subject: Windows 7 Sound Scheme Nightmares

hi.
i have windows 7 professional 32 bit, jaws 13.0.638, and now for some
strange reason,
when i try to use headings on a web page, it does not give me the
windowding.wav.

same when routing jaws to pc on a web page.
i do not hear the sound.
i have gone to the sounds, selected windows default, then i tab to and the
drop down

combo box does not show up.
if i select the windows default, tab and arrow down to *
then the list of sounds comes up and when i tab it lands on the windows
sound starting with the letter e, and have to up arrow to windowsding.wav.

but when i click apply, and then i get windows default modified.
so wondering if my windows 7 sound scheme is screwed up.
using a toshiba a300 satellite psg4a  - 02300m
and i am using the real tech audio manager.
wonder if i then download and install the drivers, will it fix this.
how to repair the windows sound scheme.
this problem has been happening since christmas day.
and do not want to do a system restore not really.
had already installed avg free 2012, and then uninstalled mse.
so any help.
how to get this to work.
also, the jaws 13, when i check for updates, does not hear the ding for
the update dialog.

any ideas.
did uninstall and reinstall jaws 13, but made no difference.
went to the settings centre and used the jaws default.
said that the top and bottom sound alert was selected, clicked okay, then
saved the default jaws file.

please help me out.
if a system restore does work.
well.
did install adobe cs 5.5 web premium, student version.
so this problem been happening since christmas day.
try the system restore from dec 23.
please help me out and advice.
looking on google, but have not found any answers yet.

We've already been over this. In particular, there are a series of
commands accessed by pressing alt-shift-letter that read various bits of

jaws incorrectly reports that no selection has been made when the reverse

2012-01-07 Thread Gianluca Apollaro

Hi list,
The problem I have it with the .wtv format is that I can't easily
convert it to an mpg. I don't record just to watch them in mediacenter
itself. When I record I don't like to have things in a proprietary
format, but in a format I can manipulate the way I want.

Best regards,
Gianluca from Italy.

As soon as I find some TV with audio description, I'll try to record
it. At the moment, I can only get ABC and CBS networks on my tuner,
along with some independent channels. If anyone knows of programs on
ABC or CBS that are described, let me know.

Hi,
If I remember correctly mediacenter records in a format complicated
to be converted into somethink more usefull like mpg or ts, and I
don't know if with mediacenter you can record all the streams
included in the channel like a secondary audio stream.

advantages of Media Center are that in the program itself, the
controls are standard, eliminating the need for any scripts, and you
can read the descriptions of each program in the Program Guide.
Also, Media Center comes with Windows, giving us a standard user
interface to work with. Media Center in Vista and Windows 7 must be
fairly similar since my remote control that was designed for Vista
also works well with Media Center in Windows 7.

I'll let Jianluca answer for himself, but as he says in his email he
uses the software that comes with his USB TV tuner card from
Hauppauge.

He says this software is accessible.

I did something a few years ago, using the software that came with
a TV
tuner card I got cheap. I think the software was PVR by KWorld. I
don't
recall the manufacturer of the TV tuner card, but like I said, this
was

a few years ago, so I'm sure neither the TV tuner card or the software
is still around. I just use this as an example that there may be other
software out there besides Windows Media Center that let's you control
and record from your TV tuner card.

Hey Christopher. I posted about this earlier. The reading functions still
don't appear to work, and jaws still speaks as though the clipboard were
empty/selections were not made. Jaws 11 over here...might have something
to do with it, but I think it more likely to be connected with the new GW
version. Didn't you say you weren't a jaws user, or am I getting you
confused with someone else? lol

One obvious improvement though is, as I said before, that now the
filenames will speak.

If you're successfully using the reading functions and everything else is
working correctly, perhaps there's something we need to set differently
in goldwave?

We've already been over this. In particular, there are a series of
commands accessed by pressing alt-shift-letter that read various bits of
status information quickly and efficiently. I don't necessarily mind if
jaws incorrectly reports that no selection has been made when the reverse
is true, but it would be good to have those functions back. I also really
appreciated that in the past you could move your markers around and jaws
would speak their time location. Not sure what memory has to do with any
of this...

I should also mention that there are probably different versions for

Now I'm going to give Twitter a mention again because its come to my rescue, no
sooner did I mention that I'd bought one of these tuner sticks then I received
quite a few messages from people who use Screen reading technology who own
these devices, it seems that users of JAWS 13 have no trouble using the Tuner
Stick whatever thanks to the OCR technology employed, they can see the channels
and therefore click on the one they wish to listen to, record etc so that's
neat!

The software supplied with the Tuner does not I'm told have any keyboard
shortcuts which is a shame and seems to be very poorly written however users of
Windows 7 can take full advantage of the tuner by using the Windows Media
centre.

I also heard of others who have used this Tuner under LYNUX quite successfully,
it would appear that LYNUX is the best operating environment for this tuner.

Anyway I'll keep the list informed of my progress with this device, should have
it this time next week.

Re: Anybody Tried Out The New Gold Wave Scripts Yet?

2012-01-07 Thread JM Casey

All right guys...

So, obviously, the scripts V1.60 do not work with goldwave 5.65. I got rid
of those files, downloaded the new 1.61 version, and at first my experience
possibly mirrored Kim's; they were definitely not working. However, I forgot
to resave/compile the scripts I think, and now that I have done that, they
seem to be performing their proper functions. For some reason the programme
wants to hang when I hit insert-h, but as of now that's the only problem I'm
still having. So, Kim, if you want those scripts to work, load them in the
script manager and recompile.

2012-01-07 Thread Christopher Wright

Here's the procedure I recommend, step by step.

Assuming that you already downloaded the scripts, and that you're using
Windows XP:
1. Go to the location where you saved the zipped archive containing the
scripts. The file you're looking for is goldwave5.65jawsscripts1.61.zip.
2. If you're using the zip/unzip utility built into Windows, press enter on
that file.

3. Select all the files and copy them to the clipboard.
4. Go to the start menu.
5. Go to programs.
6. Go to the submenu for the Jaws version you have installed.
7. Press enter on explore Jaws.
8. Press enter on explore my settings.
9.Paste the files into that folder.

Then open up GoldWave, hit insert-f2 and go down to the Script Manager. It
should say goldWave.jss. Now hit ctrl-s. You should hear "compile complete"

1. Go to the location where you saved the zipped archive containing the
scripts. The file you're looking for is goldwave5.65jawsscripts1.61.zip.
2. If you're using the zip/unzip utility built into Windows, press enter
on that file.

3. Select all the files and copy them to the clipboard.
4. Go to the start menu.
5. Go to programs.
6. Go to the submenu for the Jaws version you have installed.
7. Press enter on explore Jaws.
8. Press enter on explore my settings.
9.Paste the files into that folder.

don't need to change a thing.

You should be able to select audio and copy it. So far, no problems over

Hey Christopher. I posted about this earlier. The reading functions
still don't appear to work, and jaws still speaks as though the
clipboard were empty/selections were not made. Jaws 11 over
here...might have something to do with it, but I think it more likely
to be connected with the new GW version. Didn't you say you weren't a
jaws user, or am I getting you confused with someone else? lol

One obvious improvement though is, as I said before, that now the
filenames will speak.

If you're successfully using the reading functions and everything else
is working correctly, perhaps there's something we need to set
differently in goldwave?

Hm, yes, it's very strange. They definitely were not working before I did

RE: Anybody Tried Out The New Gold Wave Scripts Yet?

2012-01-07 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello,

I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit, Jaws 13 and Goldwave 5.65. I downloaded the 1.61
scripts which supposedly are for Goldwave 5.65, unzipped them and copied
them into my Settings/enu folder, but when I go to save/compile the JSS
file, it gives me errors, it cannot find Cursor_Short and if I comment out
that line, it cannot find CURSOR a cople of lines below.

GoldWave worked poorly with the old scripts, but now it does not work at
all. Any ideas?

TIA,

Humberto

CD Space Burning Question

2012-01-07 Thread Marvin Hunkin

hi.
do you know of a compression software, where i can get like double the
space on a

blank 720 mb cd-r disk.
got 110 files, but they are almost 900 mb.
can i get 900 mb disks.
or not.
and if there is a utility, will it work, and can i then get the mp3s on
to the cd.

RE: Anybody Tried Out The New Gold Wave Scripts Yet?

2012-01-07 Thread Rob Tabor
Good evening, all.

Is it necessary to pre-delete the 18 files from the old GW for JFW script
set or with copying the new files from Version 1.61 perform all of the file
replacements during the file copying process?
Tia and best regards,
Rob Tabor

Then open up GoldWave, hit insert-f2 and go down to the Script Manager. It
should say goldWave.jss. Now hit ctrl-s. You should hear "compile complete"
or something like that. Close the script manager and GoldWave, re-open
GoldWave again, and it should work this time.
