wave to MP 3 conversion problem
Hi, List Members, I'm trying to do what I thou should be a straight forward thing. I have a wavefile which runs about 5 hours and tried to convert it to an MP 3 file at 128 K, sampling rate of 44.1 kHz. I used Goldwave to record and convert the file. The finished file still says the file size is 2.8 GB. This looks wrong to me. Goldwave can play the file but Windows Media player cannot. The steps to convert the file were: I saved the wave file as an MP 3 file. Then I tabbed to attributes and selected 128 KB. I'd really appreciate someone telling me what I did wrong. Thanks for reading this. Joe G. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Another couple of accessories you might want to look into are the backlit remote, not that you would use the lighting but the remote is much larger, the buttons are much more separated, and the unit is much more powerful. You can be in a different room and still operate your radio. Also Bose makes a Braille remote for the Wave radio which I don't have but you might find useful. Re: Burning CD's
Are you looking for a burning program or a ripping program? You're asking about a burning program, which is where you want to burn music from your PC onto a empty CD, but later you talk about getting music off of a CD and onto your PC, which is ripping. I believe you can just use Windows Explorer to copy or burn music from your PC to a blank CD. You might need to have the music selected or a blank CD inserted before these options show up. It's been a while since I've done it, and that was on Windows XP. If you're looking for a way to rip CD's with Windows 7 then I believe the program you're looking for is Windows Media Player. Burning CD's
Hi Everyone, Well, I don't know if I am stupid or what, but people on this list have said Windows 7 has a very simple burning program. If it is there, I certainly can't locate it. I've opened Windows Explorer, looked through all the menus and soforth, and did not find it. So, I tried using the search box, but I can't get it to bring up any burning program. All I want to do is copy a CD into my music library on the computer. That really shouldn't be too difficult, but I'm not locating a program that will let me do it. I know there are programs that I can download to do this and I probably will download something in the future. But for right now, I just want to get a couple of CD's transfer to the computer. Can someone tell me where to look and what the program is called, and perhaps give me an idea of why I'm not finding it. Thanks so much for any help. Re: Burning CD's
So it sounds like you want to get music from your CD's onto your PC. After that, you want to transfer that music to your portable players. Would these portable players be things like MP3 players? Do they involve CD's at all? I think you want to rip your CD's, It doesn't sound like you want to do any burning. Windows Media Player will rip the music from your CD's and then place it onto your PC. It'll also let you update portable media players. You don't need Windows Explorer for any of this. Other applications, such as Winamp, iTunes and so on will do the same thing. You can also use a ripper like CDex to get the music from the CD onto your PC. Depending on the MP3 player, you may be able to use Windows Explorer to copy music files to your MP3 player. This assumes that it shows up as a removable drive when you plug it in. Try a program called WinLame. It's a wizard interface, which steps you through each option. Re: wave to MP 3 conversion problem
I have always used goldwave. Simply load the wave file into the editor; then do a "save as". The "save as" dialog box has all the stuff you need. One must set the file type and location as well as the format (bitrate, etc.) before hitting the "save" button. A five hour file will take quite some time to complete. Then goldwave will ask if you want to update the sound in the editor to the new file. I always say "no" and close the file. Then I open it again or go and try to play it in winamp. The new file should be (maybe) ten percent of the size of the original file. I thought Joe was asking about converting a five-hour .wav file that he'd created from a minidisc. For that purpose, WinLame would help, and the YouTube thing is another matter which you've already resolved. RE: Burning CD's
Yes, I purchased a new computer a few months ago and have not had time to work with any of my music stuff yet. Right now, I just wanted to get a couple CD's on the computer quickly and I had heard that 7 had a program to do this but I was not finding it. . Later on I will need to do some burning but not at this point. Thanks much for your help. I think this will get it done just fine for me. Re: wave to MP 3 conversion problem
Hi, For now I gave up on the project. I set a physical to record in MP 3 and will dump that to a computer to separate individual files from the long file and make a data disk. Meanwhile, I'll give a look to Win Lame. Thanks very much for all your input. Re: Youtube downloader
I have had pretty good luck with websites that do the converting. It would be interesting to hear more from people using programs than simply that the program is great, because there are some complications with capturing audio streams under Windows 7, for example. Do these programs add a sound card virtual driver, for instance? When you are watching a YouTube stream you want to save, go to the address bar and copy the address to the clipboard. Then go to one of the conversion web sites and paste the address into the edit box requesting an address. In a little while, a link is returned from which you can download the audio. Two such sites are http://www.vid2mp3.com and http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ These kinds of sights do change and I have not used either of the above for a few weeks, but I have used both with success in the past.
