Question about the accessibility of the Kindle DX?

2011-06-26 Thread Saylien Brown
Anyone on the list using a Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device: Free
Global 3G successfully?

I'm very curious how accessible it is and are there any audio
tutorials to assist a visually impaired person to get the most out of it?

Very interested in the Blog and Magazine subscription features in particular.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How to Keep Total Recorder from Dropping the Stream During Recording

What setting, if any, is there to cause Total Recorder to reconnect to
a stream from which it has somehow become disconnected while
recording?

Thanks in advance.

Why would this be off topic. This is probably one of the most on topic
topics we could have on the pc-audio group.
I think a good VU meter is a great topic.

Re: Question about the accessibility of the Kindle DX?

2011-06-26 Thread mark bishop

Hi
The kindle is amazing. As a braille reader and somebody who doesn't
particularly like conventional audio books it has revolutionised my reading.
About 95 per cent of all the books I have looked are enabled for speech.
When you first get it some sighted help might be an advantage as you have to
turn on the speech function. Although I was able to do this with the help
of the excellent customer service people telling me how many times to move
down or up and when to press stuff. The only thing that is totally not
accessible is to search for books and download them via the kindle so a 3g
version isn't worth it. You should go for the wi-fi version instead. You
just go to amazon on you laptop or pc and select your book you can then
download it wirelessly which is free straight to your kindle. You can also
put other files on there such as pdf but I don't know if these are spoken
and audio books from audible.com or audible.co.uk.

hope all this isn't too much waffle for you.

Re: Total Recorder

2011-06-26 Thread Dave Scrimenti
The Total Recorder help is quite good. And there are a lot of tutorials on
the High Criteria site. The program is easy to navigate with Jaws and the
help files aren't all "click this" and "drag that" kind of stuff, so very
useful for those of us using screen readers. Play around with it for a few
days. Then if you need specific advice, just ask. It's on-topic for this
