2010-08-13 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Hello John,
How close are the two rooms your computer and stereo systems are in?
I'm asking because if there too far away from each other, then the best way
to go about that is to use a FM radio transmitter.
All depending where you look, they can be gotten for as little as $35 or as
much as $300.

Hope this helps.
My best regards.
 John.

Hi folks!

Its been a while since I've played with Goldwave as I prefer to use
Amadeus Pro on the Mac but it doesn't hurt to have fingers in the
Windows pie . Anyway to cut a long story short I was given a job
where noise reduction in parts was required as part of the audio
editing, I can handle this stuff quite easily with Amadeus Pro but as
I'd never given the noise reduction function in Goldwave a go before I
thought that the ideal opportunity was presenting itself.

To be frank I was amazed at the quality of the result I got for a first
try and I'm prepared to stand by the claim I'm about to make and that is
the Noise reduction functions of Goldwave rival those which are part of
more expensive products such as Sound Forge. Furthermore, the sections
in the manual describing how the noise reduction system in Goldwave
works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to sleep so all
one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction function is to
read for a minute or so and the have the basic knowledge required to get
started.

So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good
value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a "Giveaway"! when
one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the fact
that the author has gone out of his way to make this product accessible.

2010-08-13 Thread Howard Traxler
whether it be cueing or scrubbing, can changing of rewind and forward speed
done quickly and easily (in goldwave) without going into menus and dialog
boxes? Possibly a macro key be set to raise the speed and another to lower?
Using a turntable, one grabbed the edge of the record and turned it backward
at whatever speed he chose. To be able to do this in an audio editor would
be great!

Hi John,
I used a 25 foot stereo cable with one y-cable having a mail transister

etc.) On the other end are two female rca jacks (in my day we called these
pin jacks. You would plug the male rca jacks from one end of your 25 foot
stereo cable into the female jacks on the y-cable. Plug the male transister
jack into the out of your pc. this is where you normally plug in speakers.
Plug the two remaining mail rca jacks into the in jacks of your stereo
system. Now when your stereo is on the augsiliary setting. Now when using
your computer it should come through your stereo.

Hi John,

I listen daily to music from my computer on my home stereo
and through my bose wave radio on my deck. I do this by employing a
good fm transmitter. Connect it to the output of your sound card and
you can then broadcast to your equipment. I have been using this
solution for years. I can even listen to my music and podcasts in a
car in my driveway. Hope this helps.

Rusty
p.s. this method saves you the mess and clutter of long wires.

Only my opinion but you can't go past a sound card or board with a digital
output, if your system has a digital input then connect it to the digital
output of your sound card, you'll notice one huge difference in doing this than
if you were to say connect your computers sound card headphone or line-out jack
to an aux in on a Hi-Fi system.

Re: Total Recorder VideoPro Edition

2010-08-13 Thread Dane Trethowan
I had no problem in justifying the upgrade from Total Recorder Professional to
Video Professional and I'm as blind as a bat, not quite sure what that has to
do with it but regardless of that, if you record video even from your TV then
Total Recorder Professional Video Edition is a logical tool to have around
.

If you're going to go that route then another worthwhile piece of software to
have at your disposal is Video Redo TV Suite, another list member put me on to
this quite a while back.

Vocal Microphone and Soundcard Recommendations

2010-08-13 Thread James Scholes

 Hi all,

I plan to purchase a Yamaha MG166C mixer, and a M-Audio Delta 44
soundcard. For obvious reasons, I don't want speech from my screen
reader, and system sounds, to go through my production card (the
Delta). My on-board soundcard places too much emphasis on low-end
frequencies, and playing anything through its outputs sounds less than
desirable. What soundcards are people using for system sounds, speech,
etc? My experience has been that speech, especially Eloquence, does not
sound great through pro audio cards.

Secondly, what microphones would people recommend for simple vocal
applications (podcasting, recording, internet broadcasting, etc)? I'll
be using this microphone with the Yamaha mixer I mentioned above, and
I'm currently using a cheap Behringer dynamic (the XM8500).

Yep it can and I outlined how this was done in an earlier message, you can have
it work just like turning a turntable forward or backward at your chosen speed,
cuing a reel-to-reel tape recorder and so on.

 Good evening listmembers.

I quite agree with Dane in my experience with Goldwave which I think
delivers excellent value for your buy. The only feature missing compared
to more high powered sound recording/editing packages such as studio
Recorder is audio cuing during the edit marking operation. Happy
 recording and editing.

2010-08-13 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yep, just said exactly what I did earlier on today , other shortcut key
commands exist allowing you to hear audio round your markers and to "nudge" the
markers either way in your audio file so if you're looking at things from an
audio perspective then you have "Total Audio control and feedback" when editing
which I should think is exactly what a blind person wants and Goldwave provides.

Having said all that however, Sound Forge does offer some nice audio editing
feedback, scrub mode isn't nearly as good as that found in Goldwave but all the
cursor movement commands can be used whilst the file is playing and this can't
be done it seems in Goldwave but no matter, if one got into a discussion or
argument about this then one would be incredibly trivial.

Hi John,
I used a 25 foot stereo cable with one y-cable having a mail transister
jack on one end (these are the standard for headphones on small walkmen
etc.) On the other end are two female rca jacks (in my day we called these

They do a discount for just $18, but I would have thought if you have

Hi,

ok, are you trying to just download the vidio, or edit the vido? if you're
just trying to capture the vidio, then free download manager will do what
you want for utube vidios. If that's all you want to do with total recorder
vidio pro, then there's no use paying for the feature.

Free download manager does a bunch of other things, some I use, some I do
not. I like it's sie explorer option for some sites for example.

Hello all,
For somebody who is totally blind, can you justify the reasons I
should upgrade from Total Recorder Professional Edition to the
VideoPro Edition? They do a discount for just $18, but I would have
thought if you have little to no vision like I have then there's
surely no real benefits that I can see anyway.
Many thanks.

Re: Total Recorder VideoPro Edition

2010-08-13 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Downloading the free trial now.
I also believe Total Recorder VideoPro edition can record screen output.
This may be useful if, for example, I am recording a Tandem session, but
want both audio and video output to be recorded.
Am I understanding correctly here? I will post these queries on my BTR
list, but thought I'd ask here as well.

Re: Total Recorder VideoPro Edition

2010-08-13 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Hi all,
Yes it is possible. It is not possible however with the lower editions.
Well it is but it means starting the video in your browser. Now what I
want to do is silently capture (background record) a youtube video. This
is not possible with my current Professional edition, however it is
apparently possible with the VideoPro edition.

Noise Reduction With Goldwave

2010-08-13 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!
Since Noise reduction seems to be a topic of interest to a lot of list members
I thought I’d write a small “getting started” guide if you like for those who
want to give Noise Reduction a go. This little guide assumes that you want to
rid the audio you’ve recorded of a constant background noise, suppose you’ve
recorded from radio and you have some background interference from somewhere so
follow these steps and you may be quite surprised at the results you get and
others feel free to comment or add notes as required.
This guide is written with Goldwave in mind though people with the appropriate
knowledge can adapt it to their requirements, for example if they’re using
Sound Forge, Total Recorder etc.
Go into Goldwave and open the file you wish to work with.
Next scan through the file until you find a portion of background noise on its
own, a quarter of a second will do.
Select this portion of audio and copy it to the clipboard, for added security
you may like to paste the copied portion of audio to a new window and you can
work with this to make the sample of background noise longer should you need to.
Now select all of your audio file you’re working on or all of the portion you
want noise removed from.
Go into Goldwaves menu system and select effects, filters and Noise reduction.
>From the drop-down lists of presets select “Envelope from Clipboard” and press
>Okay, processing of the envelope and of the audio will start immediately.
So listen to the result and see what you think. If the audio seems expanded
then repeat the steps above though when you select the preset “Envelope >From
Clipboard” adjust the “Scale” edit box from 100 to 10, this determines by how
much DB Goldwave Should reduce the noise by, press okay and processing of the
noise envelope and the audio file will start.
Obviously a lot of the noise will still be present so repeat the process of
noise reduction again a few more times with the Scale set at 10% each time,
noise will decrease gradually but you’ll end up with a more natural sounding
audio than you did the first time you tried with the scale set at 100%
Have fun!

Solved: capturing videos

2010-08-13 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Hello all,
I found the perfect program to capture Youtube and other videos. It's
called Replay Media Capture and you can try it for free from
www.applian.com. If all you want to do is capture videos from Youtube
then the demo is enough; other recordings however will be shortened by half.

Enjoy!

I never saw the advantage of a download manager as a rule because it tends
to not boost speed. fdm's ability lies in it's ability to explor site
structures, I can tag a bunch of files off of a web site, and download them
without having to click on them. It's free, so that's a boost. I'd be
willing to pay five bucks for the thing actually.

Hello all,
For somebody who is totally blind, can you justify the reasons I
should upgrade from Total Recorder Professional Edition to the
VideoPro Edition? They do a discount for just $18, but I would have
thought if you have little to no vision like I have then there's
surely no real benefits that I can see anyway.
Many thanks.

This is interesting! Because all this time, I thought that Soundforge was

I have Soundforge, but I don't have Goldwave yet.

I have been using Goldwave, Sound Forge and Studio Recorder for several
years. With a little experimenting you can actually get better noise
reduction with Goldwave with less work and less time spent than with Sound
Forge.

Hi,

yes, as long as you have a clip iof just the fan, you could try using the

mixed results, but it's a good place tp start mucking around. Like
anythingg, there are limits on what it can do, and one's own personal

Hi!
Since Noise reduction seems to be a topic of interest to a lot of list
members I thought I’d write a small “getting started” guide if you like
for those who want to give Noise Reduction a go. This little guide assumes
that you want to rid the audio you’ve recorded of a constant background
noise, suppose you’ve recorded from radio and you have some background
interference from somewhere so follow these steps and you may be quite
surprised at the results you get and others feel free to comment or add
notes as required.
This guide is written with Goldwave in mind though people with the
appropriate knowledge can adapt it to their requirements, for example if
they’re using Sound Forge, Total Recorder etc.

Go into Goldwave and open the file you wish to work with.
Next scan through the file until you find a portion of background noise on
its own, a quarter of a second will do.
Select this portion of audio and copy it to the clipboard, for added
security you may like to paste the copied portion of audio to a new window
and you can work with this to make the sample of background noise longer
should you need to.
Now select all of your audio file you’re working on or all of the portion
you want noise removed from.
Go into Goldwaves menu system and select effects, filters and Noise
reduction.
From the drop-down lists of presets select “Envelope from Clipboard” and
press Okay, processing of the envelope and of the audio will start
immediately.
So listen to the result and see what you think. If the audio seems
expanded then repeat the steps above though when you select the preset
“Envelope From Clipboard” adjust the “Scale” edit box from 100 to 10, this
determines by how much DB Goldwave Should reduce the noise by, press okay
and processing of the noise envelope and the audio file will start.
Obviously a lot of the noise will still be present so repeat the process
of noise reduction again a few more times with the Scale set at 10% each
time, noise will decrease gradually but you’ll end up with a more natural
sounding audio than you did the first time you tried with the scale set at
100%

Have fun!

this only need be half a second long. Next copy that portion to the
clipboard. Then select the area of audio you wish noise reduction to
occur on.

Then go into the Noise reduction filter and select the preset "Envelope
from Clipboard", press preview to see how the result will sound and adjust
settings if and where appropriate, if satisfied then press the okay button
and the effect will be applied.

I have a recording of a presentation and want to get rid of a high piched

Thanks in advance.

I have been using Goldwave, Sound Forge and Studio Recorder for several
years. With a little experimenting you can actually get better noise
reduction with Goldwave with less work and less time spent than with
Sound Forge.

Good evening listmembers.

I quite agree with Dane in my experience with Goldwave which I think
delivers excellent value for your buy. The only feature missing
compared to more high powered sound recording/editing packages such as
studio Recorder is audio cuing during the edit marking operation. Happy
recording and editing.

Hi folks!

Its been a while since I've played with Goldwave as I prefer to use
Amadeus Pro on the Mac but it doesn't hurt to have fingers in the
Windows pie . Anyway to cut a long story short I was given a
job where noise reduction in parts was required as part of the audio
editing, I can handle this stuff quite easily with Amadeus Pro but as
I'd never given the noise reduction function in Goldwave a go before I
thought that the ideal opportunity was presenting itself.

To be frank I was amazed at the quality of the result I got for a
first try and I'm prepared to stand by the claim I'm about to make and
that is the Noise reduction functions of Goldwave rival those which
are part of more expensive products such as Sound Forge. Furthermore,
the sections in the manual describing how the noise reduction system
in Goldwave works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to
sleep so all one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction
function is to read for a minute or so and the have the basic
knowledge required to get started.

So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good
value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a "Giveaway"!
when one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the
fact that the author has gone out of his way to make this product
accessible.

Re: Total Recorder VideoPro Edition

2010-08-13 Thread richard claypool

Hi,

It has a converter option in it, so you can convert to audio or diferent
kinds of vidio from flash. I'm gonna actually test it right now. it's not
working on my system, but I think that's because the program is out of date.

you basicly bring up fdm
hit alt 2 for the flash section, hit ins, paste in the url you want, and hit
download. Using your review cursor after it's done, you can convert it, or
you can set a setting to autob convert after downloading.

It handles myspace and a few other things.

I'm having some problems, so I'm gonna update this., and see what we get.

wav if I really want it that way. all you do is put in the url of the
vidio, and it does the rest.

Hi,

ok, are you trying to just download the vidio, or edit the vido? if
you're just trying to capture the vidio, then free download manager
will do what you want for utube vidios. If that's all you want to do
with total recorder vidio pro, then there's no use paying for the
feature.

Free download manager does a bunch of other things, some I use, some I
do not. I like it's sie explorer option for some sites for example.

some absolutely terrible free video software out there, I don't know

Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious

2010-08-13 Thread Rob Tabor
Very interesting! This new scrubbing function using the J K and L keys must
be a newly added feature to GW version 5.57. I don't remember this in
previous versions. If this is so, Goldwave keeps on getting better. When you
add the offer of a lifetime license for about $50 this is an almost
unbeatable bang for the buck. So hang on to those license keys!!

Yep, just said exactly what I did earlier on today , other shortcut
key commands exist allowing you to hear audio round your markers and to
"nudge" the markers either way in your audio file so if you're looking at
things from an audio perspective then you have "Total Audio control and
feedback" when editing which I should think is exactly what a blind person
wants and Goldwave provides.

Having said all that however, Sound Forge does offer some nice audio
editing feedback, scrub mode isn't nearly as good as that found in
Goldwave but all the cursor movement commands can be used whilst the file
is playing and this can't be done it seems in Goldwave but no matter, if
one got into a discussion or argument about this then one would be
incredibly trivial.

On 13/08/2010, at 9:54 PM, Jim Noseworthy wrote:

Hello:

The following is an extract taken from the GoldWave manual:

J, K, L Rewinds, plays, and fast forwards respectively. Playback always
starts at the cursor's position.
Shift+J, Shift+K, Shift+L Makes the playback speed slower, normal, and
faster respectively.

Hope this helps.

Replay Media Catcher 3 & Chris

Hi Chris & all
I've been trying to tell you all this for 2 years about Replay Media Catcher

product key isn't working where you enter your code and the interface is
different. I strongly suggest all of you read my Blind Info website before
using Replay Media Catcher 3. The info is there in plain text.

Very important especially for those of you who use Windows Vista or Windows
7 to read the info on the site below.

I do not work for Applain nor do I make any money if you visit my website. I
do all this because Applain chnologies is a great company.

I also have mp3 tutorials on many of Applain products like Replay AV 8.

Sound Forge have been the best nor have I heard anyone claim that the noise

Stineberg and similar but the problem for us is that they're not accessible.

Re: audio queueing was Re: Noise Reduction in Goldwave, I'm probably stating the very obvious

2010-08-13 Thread Dane Trethowan
Well the scrub feature of j, k, and l and shifted keys respectively has been in
Goldwave for as long as I can remember and I think I've owned the product for 2
years now, remember when I posted a comparison of Goldware and Sound Forge
Audio Studio 9? Well whenever that was that's when I purchased Goldwave and
just in summary again, Sound Forge 9.0 is a total ripoff when compared to
Goldwave, only my opinion of course!

Amen to that! Nice work, Dane! I don't think even the GW manual explains
that well as to how to use noise reduction.

I applaud Dane for sharing his expertise on how to make the noise reduction
in goldwave work. he has done more than a lot of so called goldwave experts
who never did send me a sample of there work like I requested some time

This is interesting! Because all this time, I thought that Soundforge

wrong. I have Soundforge, but I don't have Goldwave yet.

reduction with Goldwave with less work and less time spent than with
Sound Forge.

Good evening listmembers.

I quite agree with Dane in my experience with Goldwave which I think
delivers excellent value for your buy. The only feature missing
compared to more high powered sound recording/editing packages such as
studio Recorder is audio cuing during the edit marking operation. Happy

Damn good
value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a "Giveaway"!
when one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the
fact that the author has gone out of his way to make this product
accessible.

thanks to an axident when I was younger, i can't hear well enough to do pro

I've never heard anyone claim that the noise reduction plug-ins you get
with Sound Forge have been the best nor have I heard anyone claim that the
noise reduction with Goldwave, Total Recorder or Amadeus Pro are the best,
Audio Engineers I know who work in this field have a good belly laugh when
I talk of these products and noise reduction, they're into things like
Final Cut Pro, Stineberg and similar but the problem for us is that
they're not accessible.

Subject: Noise Reduction With Goldwave

Hi!
Since Noise reduction seems to be a topic of interest to a lot of list
members I thought I'd write a small "getting started" guide if you like for
those who want to give Noise Reduction a go. This little guide assumes that
you want to rid the audio you've recorded of a constant background noise,
suppose you've recorded from radio and you have some background interference
from somewhere so follow these steps and you may be quite surprised at the
results you get and others feel free to comment or add notes as required.
This guide is written with Goldwave in mind though people with the
appropriate knowledge can adapt it to their requirements, for example if
they're using Sound Forge, Total Recorder etc.
Now select all of your audio file you're working on or all of the portion
you want noise removed from.
Go into Goldwaves menu system and select effects, filters and Noise
reduction.
>From the drop-down lists of presets select "Envelope from Clipboard" and
press Okay, processing of the envelope and of the audio will start
immediately.
So listen to the result and see what you think. If the audio seems expanded
then repeat the steps above though when you select the preset "Envelope From
Clipboard" adjust the "Scale" edit box from 100 to 10, this determines by
how much DB Goldwave Should reduce the noise by, press okay and processing
of the noise envelope and the audio file will start.
Obviously a lot of the noise will still be present so repeat the process of
noise reduction again a few more times with the Scale set at 10% each time,
noise will decrease gradually but you'll end up with a more natural sounding
audio than you did the first time you tried with the scale set at 100%
Have fun!

Does such a beastie exist, in other words, or are the types of audio

Ok, just wondered if some kind of adaptor were

for example, with the Victor Stream.

recording with imic using a microphone

2010-08-13 Thread tim cumings
Hi, Dane.
I just bought a griffin imic which I'm using on my windows xp machine. It is
working wel as far as playback, but when I try to record using a microphone I
get a lot of background whine which sounds like it might be coming through the
usb port. I have the mic gain adjustment turned all the way up. Here's a link
to a sample.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5297006/imictest.mp3
I'm using an audiotechnica modelat8004 dynamic omnidirectional microphone
which has a sensitivity rating of -49 db and impedance of 600 ohms. Do you have
any idea what might be causing this noise. The imic is plutged into one of the
usb ports on my audigy sound card. I
also tried it on one of the pc usb ports on the bcak of the pc with the same
results.

Re: connecting?

2010-08-13 Thread Howard Traxler
Someone told me that there is actually a type of sound card in the headset.
I notice that when I plug it in, the computer sees another sound device
that's usb. I just can't get the mic to work.

Hi, can I connect a USB headphone / microphone set to an analog 1/8-inch
headphone jack and a 1/8-in microphone jack via some kind of adaptor?
Does such a beastie exist, in other words, or are the types of audio
different to the extent that such cannot be done do to the nature of the
signals.
