Fwd: Main menu for this Week

2008-09-23 Thread Steve Pattison

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Folks

There are two items in this week's Main Menu. Firstly we will hear
Shane Jackson's review of the new talking Ipod Nano, followed by a
recording I made whilst in Paris at the large music exhibition, of the
new Yamaha Tyros 3 music keyboard.

Main Menu's first airing is at 01:00 UTC, and is repeated every four
hours on ACB Radio Mainstream.

Don't forget, the new Main Menu website is now up and running, available
at mainmenu.acbradio.org.

Chrissie

on a BBC Radio channel and the BBCI player page popped up asking me to
install the BBCI player/ I thought the N82 had a Real Player installed.

RE: Streaming on N82

2008-09-23 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Saqib, yes the N82 does have RealPlayer built in, but the BBC seem to
have switched to Flash for a lot of their content now. However, the BBC is
shortly to release an iPlayer for Symbian. Let's hope it's accessible.

RE: 32 Gig SD cards: was RE: A digital recorder wanted

2008-09-23 Thread Karl Smith
Beware the Transcend cards. I sold a bunch of them for Stream users and
have received probably 20 of them back after they failed. I have switched
to the 8GB Sandisk for now.

The link works, but the price is a bit stiff at $149.99. Particularly when
just below the info for that card was a Transcend 16GB SDHC class 6 for
$35.60 and a Sandisc 16 GB Ultra 2 SDHC for $60.

Fwd: Article: SanDisk Teams with Music Industry on New Music Format

2008-09-23 Thread Steve Pattison

SanDisk Teams with Music Industry on New Music Format
by Paul Thurrott

Storage company SanDisk and the four largest music companies are teaming
to create a new physical music format called slotMusic, which the
companies hope
will one day replace the audio CD. Based on the microSD flash-memory
storage format that SanDisk created and sells in volume, slotMusic will
provide consumers
with a digital album, liner notes, lyrics, artwork, and various other
extras.

The first 29 albums in the slotMusic format will be available in October
through US retail giants such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart. The music will
be sold
in unprotected 320Kbps MP3 format, ensuring that the songs are
compatible with every PC, device, and music-management software
application worldwide. Albums
are expected to cost about $15 each.

The new format is aimed primarily at cell phone users, many of whom
already have an available microSD slot on their devices. However,
because microSD compatibility
isn't common on PCs, the slotMusic albums will also come with a USB
adapter so that customers can transfer the music to their PCs.

EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music, and Warner Bros. have all agreed to
test-market the new format. Albums by artists such as Leona Lewis, New
Kids on the Block,
Elvis Presley, Rihanna, and Weezer will be represented.

Making Recordings Of On-line Audio Files

2008-09-23 Thread Pam Drake
I want to record some of the presentations from ACB Radio
Mainstream on my hard drive for future listening. It's my understanding
that a .m3u connection only plays from the original on-line source. Am
I correct in this? Must I use an audio recorder such as Replay A/V or
Total Recorder to permanently record these presentations?
Thanks. I feel I ought to know this, but am not quite sure.
