Yes they do say it's an estimate only. I think this is because certain VBR files may be difficult to calculate precisely. I've found it pretty good generally though. RE: my radio future was short Wave radio questions
Hi Dane, Universal Radio does ship internationally, but not for all products. The Eton E1 XM is expressly not shippable by them outside of the US. I don't know whether the same applies to the Eton E1 without the XM. Circuit City appears not to ship at all outside of the US. It will be interesting to see how DAB goes in Australia. It is being switched off in Germany, it is faltering in the UK, and some are suggesting it's going the way of stereo AM, betamax, and HDDVD. This disappoints me really because the problem with the US so-called HDRadio standard is that it uses existing spectrum and thus protects the entrenched positions of the existing major players. As for my radio future? Well I'm saving for a second-generation DAB receiver, should be very nice. DAB officially starts in Australia on January 1st next year however the roll-out of DAB receivers officially starts on 1st April so we're going to hear a lot about DAB in the coming months, let's hope it doesn't end up the way Stereo AM did. In the end I chose the Eton E1, made by Grundig. In the US, there is a version of the Eton E1 that also offers XM capability. The E1 is the best receiver I've owned since my good old Sony 2010, and there really is no other portable out there that came close on specs. The wide filter makes broadcast AM sound fantastic. Even for AM though, you do need to have the antenna extended. Here's some of what universal Radio has to say about it. The Etón E1 XM (originally announced as the Grundig Satellit 900) is the world's first radio that combines AM, FM, shortwave and XM Satellite radio into one ultra high-performance unit. In development for nearly ten years, in collaboration with RL Drake Company and XM Satellite Radio, the E1 XM is simply the finest full-sized portable in the world. The E1 is an elegant confluence of performance, features and capabilities. The look, feel and finish of this radio is superb. The solid, quality feel is second to none. The digitally synthesized, dual conversion shortwave tuner covers all shortwave frequencies. Adjacent frequency interference can be minimized or eliminated with a choice of three bandwidths [7.0, 4.0, 2.5 kHz]. The sideband selectable Synchronous AM Detector further minimizes adjacent frequency interference and reduces fading distortion of AM signals. IF Passband Tuning is yet another advanced feature that functions in AM and SSB modes to reject interference. AGC

Re: my radio future was short Wave radio questions
Right, well AM or medium-wave transmissions I think run for another ten years or so here so there will be plenty of time for people to make the switch but I take your points about DAB and its going to have one huge problem here I think, that's going to be the problem of "distance". DRM is another medium which will be operating here and this may solve the distance issue, I did see a radio which was multi format compatible, that is to say it could receive DAB, DRM, FM, AM, SW and every other radio format known to the universe it seems , I'll try and dig up the link for you all. As for the Grundig radio? Well perhaps John's other chance might be to go up onto Ebay and have a look there, a lot of shops are up there now and I'm sure he'll find one willing to export to Australia and he may get the model at an absolute bargain too! Oh I just love http://www.Jango.com! However, I do have a few questions I'm hoping someone out there can help me with. The first question concerns controlling the volume. I do see a graphic that Jaws reads as "volume handle", but it doesn't appear to do anything. Is there a way I can control the player volume independently of the Windows volume control? This has been a drawback to using many players, as sometimes the music overpowers Jaws. Secondly, I am curious what codec they are using? Is it MP3, Windows media or what? I did look in the FAQ, but it doesn't say. Thirdly, how does it come up with your username? Does it just use the part of your E-mail to the left of the at sign? Hi, The enter key doesn't do anything for this particular movie in VLC. When I see the chapters, Jaws says that there are unchecked and when I hit either the space bar or enter key, nothing happens either. I want the movie to "play all". looking for used digital recorder.
Hello, I'm in the market for a used digital recorder. If anyone has one they'd like to part with let me know. It doesn't need to be top of the line, just needs to work. Thanks. Dave. Isn't the disc itself like the tape in a cassette? That can't be recycled. Maybe take it to hazardous waste collection? Dean I personally know someone who literally is older than dirt. Re: TV with Accessible SAP
Thanks, but I wonder if there are any more suggestions. I've been looking over the Bravia line, but I'm not sure how its SAP program is more accessible than anyone else's. Its main feature is its hook-up to the Internet, which I won't be using the TV for. That's strictly for our PC and Mac. - Original Message - From: "Jeffrey Dunn" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 11:53 PM Subject: Re: TV with Accessible SAP > > Sony is promoting the Bravia for just what you're looking for. > > Jeff > At 10:45 PM 3/23/2008, you wrote: >>We are about to buy a new TV. Re: play a DD using VLC
Hi Lauren: When you play with vlc, use spacebar to play. I've mentioned before that dvd menus will vary. I put in "Escape from New York" used the space bar to play, then n key to jump past the intro screens and menus then pressed space bar to play the movie. DVD's are not as yet going to be smooth sailing. I can tell you though that I've never heard sighs of frustration from sighties that used this player. It's worked the best for me when it does work. Re: playing a dvd using windows media 10 with jfw 7
I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but I use DVD Audio Extractor from http://www.castudio.org/dvdaudioextractor/ to extract the audio from DVD's. It'll capture each chapter in it's own MP3 file and build a play list or capture the whole movie in a single MP3 file. It isn't free, but I've personally found it to be very easy to use, and it's saved me a lot of time over the alternatives I've looked at. Saqib Hussain wrote: > Hi all. JAWS9 and Problems with IE
Hello Lists! I'm not sure it has anything to do with how Internet Explorer is working on my systems, both Vista and XP, but lately whenever I have installed JAWS 8 and/or 9 on my XP systems, everything works like a top, with no problems whatsoever; however, once I have installed JAWS 8 and 9 on my Vista machines only, I've had trouble with Internet Explorer, with the following message, "Internet Explorer is shutting down. If Windows finds a solution to your problem, we'll contact you." Then it gives you an option to close the program. I thought I had fixed the problem by updating my sound system on my new HP Desktop; however, with each reinstallation of JAWS, the problem returns. Now, on my two Toshiba notebooks, on the machine with JAWS 9, IE won't load up at all and quickly closes. This does not happen with Window-Eyes at all, which I also have and run. If anyone else has experienced this, do let me know and possibly give me some solutions to the problem. I emailed Freedom Scientific with the question today and am awaiting their response by tomorrow. Again, IE is the only program that seems to be impacted by something going on when I instll JAWS 8 or 9, especially nine. You know, I am thinking it may have something to do with one of the speech software synthesizers, but I am not sure. Having IE close abruptly that is so annoyingI know they are two different programs (JAWS and Window-Eyes), but they certainly put a lot of synthesizers (speech) on your system; it seems as each put some of the same ones and we have double Decktalks and Eloquences, etc. Again take care; hope someone can help me get rid of this Ie shutdown problem.
