Huh? How do you improve on an original? That's a total non secuitor
to me. What's on a CD is as good as it gets. Any improvement would be
subjective. You'd only be amplifying or attenuating certain frequency
ranges, or changing the overall dynamic comnpression characteristics
of the audio if you messed with it.

I'll start out with a general overview. If you want to know more,
write me off-list.

Station Playlist is a two-part system--the playlist creation part, and
the actual play-out part. You can buy them independently or get a
price discount if you buy them both at the same time.

Station Playlist Creator builds playlists based on categories (types
of music--slow, fast, dance, country, Slovanic bell-ringing, you name
it), and spot groups (announcements of any kind) These are put into
rotations, and the rotations are used to generate the actual playlist
files. There are additional things you can put into a playlist called
break notes, which do specific things to Station Playlist Studio when
the resultant playlist file is run through it. Station Playlist
Creator keeps a database of your musical selections, when it was that
they were last put into a playlist, when it was that they were last
played, and allows you to tweak these values so you don't get, say,
too many Barry Manilow songs clustered together, or you don't get the
same song by two different artists played too close together.

Station Playlist Studio is the play-out side of the system. It takes
playlists created in either Creator or Winamp or your favorite
playlist creator software and does exactly what it says--it plays the
tracks in the playlist. In addition, it responds to the
aforementioned break note codes to make it perform certain functions,
possibly at certain times during the hour.

Now, you might say, Station Playlist Studio is just a fancy Winamp
replacement. In certain respects, that's correct. It does what
Winamp does--it plays media files. However, there's a whole control
panel behind Studio that lets you add audio compression, control
crossfading even better than SQR does, and with a much nicer,
single-page interface.

Studio also has the capability to load and run playlists based on time
of day. Since it's made primarily for use as a play-out system for
radio stations, it can play directly from the computer's files, or
open the line-in audio on the computer and play something coming over
an external audio feed. The operator also has the capability of doing
what's called a live-assist program, where Studio plays through the
playlist until the operator presses a button that says stop playing.
Pressing another button turns on the microphone so the operator can
talk.

Station Playlist Studio used to be based on Winamp. However, the
newest version does away with Winamp for all but one small function of
the system, a function which you might never use--the ability to play
short audio clips on demand, like you would do if you were running a
radio program and wanted some sound-effects drop-ins to appear during
your show at the touch of a button.

Lots of Internet broadcasters use Studio and Creator together to
create their shows.

While this is just scratching the surface, it should be enough to get
you started toward creating at least one category and one rotation.

If you're serious about SP, I'd also urge you to join the mailing
list, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hope this helps.

Hi!
Anyone tried this recorder/editor on the PC? I'm using the Mac version

Things seem accessible enough with the Mac version but you have to
know exactly what you're doing. For one thing, keyboard shortcuts are
just about non-existent but the toolbar is well labelled and you can
get around this easily with VoiceOver and all the options are
available in the comprehensive menu system, plenty of great go to and
selection functions too including select to stop point, select to end
et, great stuff.

Hi Golden. I'd download the latest drivers for the AC-97 first. Make sure
the microphone is in the correct jack and that you know the microphone is
good and it has the proper Amperage. Also make sure the microphone
connection to the computer is tight and properly plugged in. Make sure if
the microphone has a switch that it is turned on. I have an C-media on
board sound which is just like the AC-97 and it works just fine. Good Luck
and Please let us know if you get it working. Happy Holidays.

Subject: ripping cd's into one audio track?

Hi all,

I have here a number of audio books on cd I wish to convert to files to take
on my audio player. It supports mp3 or OGG. I prefer OGG.

I want to be able to rip the cd and instead of having 20 or so tracks for
each cd I want to have 1 track for each cd. so I have 11 files instead of
over 300. (SMILE)

What application would give me the best result? remembering that I don't
want to have to join all the files after ripping them. I use CDEX but it is
very tricky to do that with.
I also have soundForge with cd arketect but have never used it.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

However, the
newest version does away with Winamp for all but one small function of
the system, a function which you might never use--the ability to play
short audio clips

Cassette to PC

2007-12-06 Thread Gary Wood
Hi All. This has been around a few times, but I think I'm getting more and
more interested in getting a PC cassette deck; but I guess I want one that will
play phonograph records. An album I borrowed was put on a tape, transferred
from a record. My brother has this, and he asked me if I could put it on a CD
for him. It would naturally sound better from its original source, rather than
a tape, but where can I get a pc cassette deck that plays long-play or
otherwise records? I found the site before, but I can't remember where it is.
Some of these plug into a line-in, and others play from USB. Where is the
line-in socket, if anyone knows? I found out where the USB is located. Thanks
for any help in this matter.

Alternatively, I tried a reinstall following a supposed uninstallation,

Subject: Problem with audio muting at random

Hi. I have a problem with my sound card muting all audio, seemingly at
random. Everything looks normal on the computer but there is no sound. And
if I open up Sounds and Audio devices, everything shows as muted.

This problem can happen once and then not happen again for 3 months or it
can happen 2 days in a row while I'm in the middle of work. So far, there's
no rhyme or reason for this anomaly.

My question then? Aside from trusting Windows to maintain a given audio
setting, might there be software that forces audio to assume certain
settings upon rebooting? Failing that, could I somehowe save a given audio
configuration to the desktop, one thatI could locate and press to force my
audio settings to take effect? This is an extremely random problem, so I
would like a method of countering it while I try to figure out what's
causing it.

Thanks for any ideas.

Larry

Hi there sarah, no, because StationPlaylist has its own mixer and microphone
management, the output doesn't have to be on stereo mix. The advantage of
this is that if you only have one sound card with speech going through it,
listeners don't hear your speech.

After your first post to the list about StationPlaylist, I did send you an
add request offering to assist you via Skype, so am still happy to do that
if you'd like some help.

All the best,

to us. You use a dsp pluggin to stream with like
oddcast.

Is this suppose to be a music streamer that one can use to listen to their
own music
when away from home or an alternative to shoutcast?

Hi there sarah, no, because StationPlaylist has its own mixer and microphone
management, the output doesn't have to be on stereo mix. The advantage of
this is that if you only have one sound card with speech going through it,
listeners don't hear your speech.

After your first post to the list about StationPlaylist, I did send you an
add request offering to assist you via Skype, so am still happy to do that
if you'd like some help.

All the best,

jonathan

Interesting. it seem spretty good and I've ben playing with the functions
before even attempting to conect to a stream to test. I
do wonder. does the output you want have to be in stereo mix? the output I
want to use does not have one but I guess that's for
the station playlist list wich I'm in the process of joining.

Just so that StationPlaylist isn't sold short here, while it does interface
with a range of Winamp-compatible streaming plug-ins, and is actually
bundled with Oddcast for streaming, the StationPlaylist suite is a full
broadcasting package. It is used in many radio stations around the world
now. While it started as a tool for LPFM broadcasters here in new Zealand,
where the developer is based and where there is a thriving LPFM scene, it's
grown in the six years or so that it's been around and is being used by a
number of 50 thousand watt commercial broadcasters. So yes you can use it to
stream, but it's also the engine behind many AM and FM radio stations too.
It supports advanced features such as voice tracking, temperature
announcements, time announcements, and intro announcements, so if you're
willing to put the work in, you can make an automated radio station sound
pretty much live.

I've used it since it came out, when I was running an LPFM station here, and
have worked with the author particularly during the early days on
accessibility issues. He has been brilliant about making changes to ensure
that the software is accessible. It's been good to see more and more blind
people support him over the years.

CDex

Hey folks,
What is the best ripping method in Cdex? Is there one better than Standard?
There are four other options like paranoia something or other. Also can you
change the directory that cdex looks in to for files to convert?
