Right, well I've never played with WMA losless but now would seem an
appropriate time to bring up some information regarding FLAC.
Some software still uses the older version of FLAC, current versions
of Total Recorder for example. The compression rates aren't as good
and performance on higher compression levels is also a little slow,
FLAC has 8 compression levels, the highest providing maximum
compression but it takes a while to compress the file as more
processing power is ued.
In the later versions of FLAC, pcompression performance is enhanced
ad the time is far les.
Actually FLAC is a bit more than just compresion these days, you can
for example insert a cue sheet file into a FLAC file along with the
audio so you have (in my case where I store both cue and FLAC files) a
CD in one file ready to copy or convert.

List Rules Regarding Music Posts

2007-11-26 Thread Tom
The quote below is taken from the rules for posting to the pc
audio list. By the way, I did not write them, I just try to
continue to maintain the intent for the purpose of the list
as specified by the list originator.

Tom

Begin Quote.
There are also some PC audio related topics which are
specifically excluded from the allowable topics. The
explicitly prohibited topics include:
* requests for songs or other audio files.
* promotion of audio streams except for occasional
announcements of special events.
* advertising audio products and service.
End Quote.

2007-11-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
Again, that's something I cann't answer as I don't use goldwave, some
editors support it whilst others do not so if Goldwave doesn't support
FLAC then you'll have to convert your FLAC files to Wave files or
another Lossless format that Goldwave willl handle.

Re: The advantages of flak?

2007-11-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
I cannot answer that as I'm not familiar with the .ogg format but all
I can say is that I myself wouldn't be bothering with that sort of
thing, you would gain absolutely nothing. FLAC is useful if you're
ripping say directly from CD, converting from another Lossless format
etc.

Well, if you don't have original media, like CD's, there's no
 need to
even worry about it, since the only thing you'd want to have in a
lossless format is original media content.

Re: List Rules Regarding Music Posts

This list, along with Blindtech, started out in the stable of Jonathan
Mosen.
And up until the last year or so, the lists went in tandem through a
number of managers, including Jonathan for a 2nd time.
Last year, Tom took this list and BlindTech went its separate way.
As for the rule, Jonathan wanted to steer clear of possible conpyright
infringements occurring via the list; hence, the rule on music.
I doubt that he had ever envisioned the particular direction this
particular thread has tkaen.
I personally don't have a feeling on this; but perhaps Tom needs to think
this one over and decide whether where one can legally find particular
music (or lyrics) is on or off topic.
Finding hard to get songs from 3rd party sources could help a lot of folks
out particularly in gift giving season.

High Mike,
I agree with you 150%.
I believe what the message poster was asking was how to find the titles to
untitled tracks on his hard drive.
Some store bought CD's especially older CD's from the mid to late 1980's
don't rip properly.
You get the songs, but you don't get the info that goes with them.
All you get is unknown artist and unknown alvem.
And even after you open that folder, all you see is 01 track 1.wma or
whatever format it was ripped in.
CD's that were made after 1992 don't have this problem.
There were some 100 disc changers that would display all of the text on the
CD's in their LCD display windows.
I should add, there are still some CD players out there that will still
display the text on any CD you play in them.
I hope this helps us all to better understand what's going on here.
By the way Mike, thanks for the info.

Hi Scott,

Ripping means to take CD tracks and putting them into your hard drive or MP3
player. Burning refers to the actual creation of a CD. What audio program
are you going to use to do the process? We have to know what you have on
your pc in order to steer you in the right direction.

RE: List Rules Regarding Music Posts

2007-11-26 Thread albert griffith
If everyone knew how to use google at its most effective level, we wouldn't
need lists. Another way to learn about which songs to with the tracks you
have is to find the same album on amazon and compare their written track
listings with your numbers.

Re: Differences between ripping, and burning

2007-11-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
Ok well as far as I know, when you rip a track from a CD you're taking
it from the audio CD to a hard drive. If you're burning tracks then
you're copying them to CD, DVD etc.

Re: Differences between ripping, and burning

2007-11-26 Thread James Scholes
To burn songs to a cd using windows media player, just create a playlist of
all the songs you want burning, go to the file menu, select the sub menu
called cd's and devices, then select burn audio cd. then tab to the burn
list combo-box and select the created playlist from the list, press the
entre key and then shift tab to the start burn button, press space or entre
and it burns the cd.

It may be easier for me to send you a list of songs by
them, and then you could match them up.
The ones you can't, you could send them.

2007-11-26 Thread Guy Mallard
Scott -
In addition to the previous 16, I found abt 22 more.
I have a music collection of over 15,000 songs and
sometimes I overlook something.
Will send the list direct to your e-mail address.

Hi,
I have winamp 5.35. Everytime I want to open it or play something in it, I
keep getting this winamp update thing. Is there any way to turn this off,
since I don't want to update winamp?
Thanks.

Go to preferences (contrl P). Tab through general tab and uncheck (look for
updates at startup).

Need manual for Riovolt PSX100

2007-11-26 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello friends,

Although the subject line says it all, if I am unable to locate
the manual for this wonderful old player which just keeps on
ticking, I need to know specifically how to get into the options
so as to change the distance moved of the fast forward button,
and also to set the option for rechargeable batteries.

Thanks for any ideas.

You'll also find Record Now, another ripper burner some people say is one of
the most accessible.

More goldwave questions, I don't give up easily

2007-11-26 Thread Vinny Samarco
Hi again,
Well it's me with more questions.
I am recording my first cd with goldwave from a cassette.
I have set my music settings in recording a cd to 44,000 Etc. for the
sampling rate, stereo, cd quality 80 minutes. The music on the file takes
56 minutes to play. Why is the total space taken up by this file over 1
gig? the first time I recorded it in two half-hour sessions each file was
about 287 megs? Now I recorded it all at once, put the appropriate Q points
and silences in and the total file is over 1 gig? I don't seem to have
extra spaces? If I lower the sampling rate I'll reduce quality. Now, if it
is too much trouble to write an answer, I will be glad to phone someone, or
try skype.
Here is my email address if you want me to call you.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I can call Wednes morning pacific time, or any time Friday or Saturday of
this week. I really need some answers.

Thanks.

Any of you have trouble with Premier cd creator?

2007-11-26 Thread Vinny Samarco
Hi,
I thought this program was going to be a good one for me, so I downloaded
the demo.
The major problem is that I can't close the program after selecting my
files and setting up the recording, or writing someting to disk. Alt F4
doesn't work, and I can't get into either the file or context menues.
Neither are there any prompts on the screenusing the mouse that I can find.
So when I have used this program, I had to resort to the bad solution of
emergency shut-down.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help.
