Re: cd recorders help please

2007-09-01 Thread golden
hi Sean

i always use the default sound recorder for all my recording purposes.
surprised! people might ask how is that possible when it allows recording up
to only 1 minute. well, there's a trick to it. simply load a .wav file as
long as the recording you wish to do and there you are, you are ready to do
your recording.
happy trying.

  Hi!
Well Grifin Technology seem to have done it again, some listers may
remember the discussion we had on the wonderful Imic device this
company released some time back, since then the Imic has undergone a
few revisions. Now the Radio Shark 2 has come to my attention. Its an
am/fm radio that plugs into a USB port on your computer, the radio is
controlled by software and the supplied software is able to allow
  "time shifting"..
Suppose for example you're listening to the Radio Shark through your
computer and the phone rings, you can then pause your listening and
resume from where you left off when you finish the phone call.
Now I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these things but I'm
wondering before I take the plunge, has anyone been more courageous
than I am and actually bought and tried one? If you have then what
did you think of it, was reception reasonable? Was the software
accessible? This isn't a concern from my point of view as I use an
Imac computer and I have software which is accessible here in the
form of Audio Hijack Pro which could control the radio Shark if need be.
Finally, are there any similar devices anyone knows of out there.

Re: cd recorders help please

2007-09-01 Thread golden
hi John

this is what i do.

1. launch sound recorder

2. load your .wav file. depending on your recording, load a 30-minute audio
file or longer if your recording is about that long.

3. ctrl r to start recording. (of course, make sure all your recording
settings are correct before starting recording).

4. ctrl s or simply hit spcbar to pause/stop.

you also have the editor, sound mixing and sound effects handy for you in
this often forgotten little tool comes packaged with your xp.
hope that helps.

Re: Replay AV 8 backup file answer for you

2007-09-01 Thread Mike Pietruk
I did some experimenting this morning -- I had to do a full system restore
from a back-up image -- and, with schedule8.dat, all one must do is copy
and paste an old schedule8.dat file over the existing one, and presto,
your stations and shows are ready to go.
Before doing the restore, I copied the schedulle8.dat file on my machine
yesterday to an external drive, did the image restore from Aug 10, and
then copied back the schedule8.dat file.
As far as RePlay AV is concerned, all is back as it was yesterday
afternoon.

High g,
You mite want to give the Fender Passport-250 a try.
It is a self contained system.
It also has its own 125 watt per channal amplifier and it can run 5
XLR/1-4th ench mics.
And it has 2 sets of stereo line in RCA jacks.
I have 1 here at the house, but I only use it for small jobs.
It can eather run on 120 volts AC or you can run it off of a special battery
pack.
But this hole intire system will cost you about $1500.
But you can check it out at:
http://www.fender.com
I hope this helps.
My best regards to you!

try one of the little radio shack 40 watt PA systems. you can run them from a
car
battery or 120 volt line. you may control two microphones and there is a
switch
for switching between phono and auxiliary inputs on the back. if you have a
decent
PA speaker, your in business. $100.00 is about what you would pay to entertain
those nice folks. you can carry it under your arm.

Jed,
I use it all the time with jaws scripts. Email me off-list, and I'll
send them to you. I'm assuming you are referring to cooledit pro?

Anyone know how well cool edit works with jaws?
I'm dying to use it, and have heard it works quite well. Any ideas on
where
to get scripts and what types of things you can do?

High g,
You mite want to give the Fender Passport-250 a try.

Output format tips needed:

2007-09-01 Thread albert griffith
I have 650 audio disks I plan to rip to my external drive. Since I'm going
to sell the disks want the sound to be of really good quality but I can't
afford to make duplicates in CDA format. I'd also like to be in a position
to change the format if a new one comes along that's enough better to
justify it. I plan to use, Nero 7 Ultra Edition and rip to flak but I'm
open to all suggestions. also, I've used Roxio products for years but I
switched because the latest version of their program was less accessible
than Nero. therefore, if anyone has a tutorial or general configuration
tips, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.

Ok, well try FLAC perhaps?
FLAC is a "Lossless" compression format and many players recognise it
including a lot of modern-day DVD and car stereo systems.

Re: Recommendation Portable P A System

2007-09-01 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High once again G,
I took another look at the back of my system with the help of my Dear wife.
She tells me right where you plug the AC cord in to it, it has a switch
whitch says 120V/240V.
So baced on this, this Fender Passport-250 system will work anywhere in the
world.
So there is a good chance that this system will work in the UK.
The radioshack one, you will need a step down transformer to use it in the
UK without blowing it up.
I hope this info helps you too as well

go to,
www.jfwlite.com
and to programs. then, use the link to the home page and not the direct
download. It's not up to date and that would be an older version. If you
stay on the same site and go to, helpful hints, you'll find a brief
tutorial to help you get started. someone has also made scripts for it for
jaws users. Let me know if you want them. I don't have the address in my
head but I believe I have a copy and will send it to you if you'd like.
This is also a simple to use ripper too.

  go to,
  www.jfwlite.com
and to programs. then, use the link to the home page and not the direct

I would, but the scripts I have are for a program whose name sounds similar,
"Easy Cd Da Extractor. Now, I'm confused myself. I don't remember if CDEX
has scripts. I didn't used to have any and it was accessible but more
programs have them made.

Splitting mp3 files

2007-09-01 Thread David Reynolds
Hi all,
I have just recorded the contents of a cassette onto my computer. It
consists of about 14 tracks, and I’d like to find a quick way of
splitting it up. I vaguely remember that there is a program that will do
this, but years ago. What is the most accessible program I can use. The
file is mp3,

Thanks in anticipation,

Total Recorder issue

2007-09-01 Thread Larry Higgins
Hi there, and just hoping someone can help me with this bit of recent
frustration.

I had to take my 'puter into the shop after the PSU started smoking,
and received it back within about five days. All was well with the
exception of one thing, I could no longer get my stereo receiver to
mute when recording through the line-in jack on my SB-audigy card. No
problem recording at all, but if it wont mute, then that kinda makes
the machine useless to me for the duration of recording time. I know
with certainty that nothing was changed at the shop, because it
wouldn't have concerned them. I of coursed have poured over the
settings to see what might be wrong, but nothing I do seems to work.
Any ideas please?

Thanks much,

Larry

This can be done with MP3DirectCut. Just type the name in a Google

Ripping DVD Audio -- Comprehensive Information

2007-09-01 Thread Matthew2007
Hi all,

Because I have a feeling there's lots of information out there on the topic
of ripping DVD audio, I would like to try to compile a comprehensive amount
of information for all of us to benefit from. To do this, I would like as
much feedback as possible. Therefore, I'm asking the following questions:

1. The main goal here is reaching high fidelity and almost identical sound
quality. With that said, what is the best method of ripping DVD audio? Is it
using DVD Audio Extractor? Is it using Sound forge to record off of one's
sound card? Is it recording off of a good quality sound card with the aid of
an external hardware device such as the PTR2? Is it yet another technique
I'm not aware of?

2. Does one's computer's sound card play a factor in ripping audio from
DVDs? That is, we're ripping files that are not played at all, which leads
me to believe the sound card has no effect on the extraction and only plays
a factor on the quality of output when listening to our ripped audio.

3. Is there a best file type to convert to? That is, I realize that .wav is
the best way to save the ripped audio in order to preserve sound quality,
but the files will of course be huge which quickly becomes burdensome for
various handheld audio players and alike. I'm hearing that .ogg maintains a
much better range of music quality. In other words, I'm hearing that ogg
retains more quality than MP3 files. Is this true? I realize there might be
much better file types one can save their audio to, so if anyone has had
experience maintaining great sound quality please let us know what is the
best file type to use.

4. What are the various techniques out there being used to rip DVD audio? In
other words, are some of you ripping DVD audio from its native sound to .wav
to then use sound forge to improve the quality and finally save to .ogg or
some other file type? Basically, if some of you are using sound forge and
alike what are some of the steps you're taking to create some of the great
movie rips I've heard?

I'm hoping many of you that have already done this kind of stuff can help
grow the amount of information we have on this topic. I figure why waste so
much time reinventing the wheel when many of you have already been there
done that. This is why I would like as many of you out there to contribute
and grow the collection of knowledge on this topic.

Thanks,

Matthew
