Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 10:57 AM Subject: an interesting DVD writing experience Greetings my fellow audio heads, Gotta share this with yall. Recently had an interesting experience with writing data files to a DVD. Every 3 months or so I backup all of my important data files. I've got office 2002 on this thing and I use nero ultra version 6 to do the DVD and CD writing stuff; and I make it a common practice to do a backup of all of my backups just in case something goes awry. Well as the fates would have it something did indeed go quite awry. After creating the primary burn and testing to see if everything came out as it should I found that some of the data files read perfectly while quite a few failed to read at all. Ran every test in the book and still couldn't find any answers to why this happened. I then substituted the secondary backup DVD of the files and found that it not only read the files perfectly from the rom but just as flawless when reloaded back into the PC. My quandry here is what could have caused such a bum write with the primary DVD. I've been burning audio now for 6 years and have never seen that one till now. What do yall think could have happened? Pleased that I was able to solve things, but at the same time stumped. Re: replay av and real streams
Dennis Is this problem occurring for you on a specific station or stream, or in general.? I haven't observed this problem, but if you can pass along a specific example or two, I can certainly test things. What happens, when you highlight the stream, and hit ctrl-t to play the stream? And, oh yes, did you manually enter the info or did it pick itself from the Replay Media guide? Let us know and perhaps a few of us can do a bit of detective work to confirm a problem or figure out why you specificly are having difficulty in recording? Kelly: It's the DeltaControl Pannel which is the problem here. The hardware itself seems to work fine in a Media Center machine; however, you can't patch the inputs to the outputs because this is a DeltaControl pannel issue. if, per chance, you are a JAWS user, there are scripts which should give you complete access to the pannel; however, as I said, the pannel is rendered useless in Windows Media center. Re: replay av and real streams
Dennis Your problem got me curious so I decided to do a bit of testing. I just attempted to record WGN, Chicago, which streams in Real Audio and is a part of my stations list in Replay AV. The stream was added via the RePlay AV Media Guide. While I could tune into the station for listening purposes just mine, my minute recording was blank. Next, I added the stream manually to Replay AV using an url with a .ram extension. Played fine; recorded fine. I will wait further testing until you report back with specifics of what you have observed. Very interesting! I should note that, more often than not, I add streams manually as I find other sources more robust with listings. Re: replay av and real streams
Dennis I didn't look for it in the Media Guide as I already had it bookmarked I am not a fan of the Replay Media Guide for the most part as I have found stream and show listings more comprehensive elsewhere. My current favorite sites for internet radio streams, in no particular order, are streaming Radio Guide http://streamingradioguide.com Mike's Radio World www.mikesradioworld.com Radiotime www.radiotime.com In Replay Av, you have a handy tool called the Urlfinder which you can use to obtain the urls of many things you listen with your pc. At first, this tool was a bit daunting for me; but once I listened to this tutorial podcast http://www.applian.com/Podcasts/20-url-finder.mp3 which will walk you through the Url Finder explaining its uses and limitations. But, as for your problem, since one pc handles things fine (and the other settings, I'd begin by comparing the settings you have for Replay Av on both pcs as well as for all the settings for the WGN entry. There, of course, could be some settings relative to the pcs as a whole at play, but I'd begin with the simpler idea of looking at Replay settings first. Re: Bone conduction headphones.
Hi Anders, I used something like that about 25 years ago. It was a radio that slung over your shoulders and the sounds went through your bones so you could hear it. Not sure how much the technology has changed since then but the radio called the "bone phone" did work pretty well. I really hope that by bones you don't mean conducting through eardrums, because that's just bad for your hearing. - Original Message - From: "Rick Harmon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2007 3:31 PM Subject: Re: Bone conduction headphones. > Hi Anders, > > I used something like that about 25 years ago. When I first heard of the bone phone, I heard that the sound is conducted through your shoulders. Re: Bone conduction headphones.
yes it had speakers that faced your body on each end of the radio, so it would still be possible to hear someone else wearing the unit. I think at the time it really was a gimmick. I'd never seen anything more about similar technologies to do this so don't know anything about anything that might be newer. I assume anything would work in the same fashion as the bone phone. Re: Bone conduction headphones.
that is not what Rick means. Rick like me had a bone phone which had the radio on one side, the battery pack on the other, and a padded like bag strap with two speakers in it that rested on the neck and shoulders. it was pretty decent. this was the forerunner to the walkmans from Sony. radios of this type have gotten crappier ever since. - Original Message - From: "Nick G" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2007 4:51 PM Subject: Re: Bone conduction headphones. >I really hope that by bones you don't mean conducting through eardrums, > because that's just bad for your hearing. > - Original Message - > From: "Rick Harmon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "PC Audio Discussion List" > Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2007 3:31 PM > Subject: Re: Bone conduction headphones. > > >> Hi Anders, >> >> I used something like that about 25 years ago. Getting back into Music
Hi! I'm sure this question has been asked many times before so please excuse me for asking it again. I'm now in a position where I want to get back into music composition, I used to muck about with this sort of thing some 12 years ago, at the time I had a Roland e16 keyboard which served me well. Now I'm looking around for a new keyboard. My Imac runs Garage Band so that's the software part of the equasion taken care of, does anyone have any recommendations as far as keyboards go? I'm sure allot has changed since the time I purchased my Roland E16, I don't think the MIDI interface of 5-pin din leads is used any more right? . ** Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] phone uk 0121 288 4976 Phone/tty (+61 3) 9747 975 Fax +61 3 9743 7954 mobile/sms: +61425 777 508 Skype: callto:grtdane12 MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ** Join the fight against spam!
