Joint Stereo Question
I was just playing around with AudioGrabber and saw a term that I am not familiar with. That is joint stereo. What is the difference between joint stereo and standard stereo? Casset deck question.
Hello! I have heard but never come in touch with it, but there is a cassette deck which Revox made. I guess it is one of the best cassette decks ever made. Shoutcast help needed
Hi everyone, I am helping a client to setup a shoutcast server. I've downloaded and installed the shoutcast server and shoutcast plug ins here and have configured them. I have a functioning shoutcast server with one problem so far. Using the winamp shoutcast plug in, how can I also use a microphone along with the audio stream? Any help is appreciated since I've spent many hours working on this project and am on a dead line to finish it and train the client on its usage. Ordering tutorials from Brian Hartgen
I see that Brian Hartgen has developed a two volume tutorial dealing with Sound Forge. I've tried to order it through his web site but apparently there's an error on the site and orders can't be processed. Is anyone aware as to whether he continues to offer the tutorials for sale? Hi Darrell and list, Ok I did as instructions for linerec tell me to do. I did a control + l in winamp to bring up the open url dialog. I type in linerec:// it goes into my play list with my other things. I setup my volume for the microphone using sndvol32 and setting the record properties to select the microphone input and set the volume at 85. When I go to linerec in my play list and press enter and then speak into the microphone nothing happens except silence. Am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to download something else. I'm assuming that linerec is already in winamp? No you don't need that. you need a dsp broadcasting tool and your volume control in windows. Just check the playback mic and what youhear in the recording properties. when you don't want to talk anymore, you check the mute box and unchck the mute box when you want to talk. You can use quickmix and winkey to acomplish this. Kurzweil Error
Hi all, If anyone of you are on the kurzweil list, please forward this message to them in case they have any suggestions. When I go to create Audio files with Kurzweil version 8 with Scansoft Lee with 15 pages per file and medium quality mp3 files being made, I get an error. Audiospooler.exe abnormal program termination. I've never seen it before, and I have been able to create audio files in the past with other settings. Is this something with the RealSpeak voices? So you are saying I do not need linerec? I already have the shoutcast plug in installed. It works fine and the stream works fine. I only get silence when going to the linerec item in my playlist. I really can't go to these extremes of using three or four different tools just to use a mic input for this. The client isn't going to want to do all these things like quickmix and other tools to do this. It's simply going to be too hard for them to learn all this. I need to keep it as simple as possible for them. Hi Rick, this is really very straight forward. The only issue may be if the person concerned is using software speech through the same sound card that the material to be broadcast is coming from. In the Shoutcast DSP plug-in for Winamp, there are two modes. One sends data direct from Winamp itself. In other words, if you play an MP3 file, then the MP3 data is transcoded to the bit rate you select, and then sent over the Internet. This is nice because you can minimise Winamp and use your sound card for other things while streaming music. It doesn't facilitate talking over music though. The other mode simply broadcasts whatever is coming through the sound card. So all you have to do is select this mode, select "what you hear" or "stereo mix" or whatever the feature on that particular sound card is called that records what is being played through the sound card, and go for it. If the broadcaster is using a simple microphone plugged into the microphone socket, then the microphone will need to be unmuted in playback controls when speaking. While there are controls that do this for you in the Winamp DSP, a simple way to handle this is to leave the control unmuted and use a microphone with a switch. These can often be found on analogue headsets and some of them sound surprisingly acceptable. Now if software speech is coming through the same sound card, then either a second sound card or external synthesiser must be obtained, or you'd need to go to StationPlaylist Studio which is a fantastic solution and highly accessible. There's not a lot you can do about this, because the mic is being put through StationPlaylist's Studio's audio pipeline and that does take some processing. if it bothers you enough, you could use a separate instance of Winamp with the Linerec plug-in to do your streaming, and use the standard mic feature in your sound card. The same caveats about software speech from my last post would then apply. Hi Jonathan, I'm not a broadcaster so unfortunately this isn't all straight forward to me. I have seen the settings that you are talking about and have tried switching the input for the plug in to soundcard and then setting up the volume control for recording to what you hear and setting the playback microphone to unmuted. When I do this however I hear nothing from the server. No audio stream and no voice from the microphone. I've been working on this for a week now and am banging my head against the wall. I simply don't know how to get this done via winamp and the shoutcast plugin. I have no problems getting the audio stream to work. That part is actually pretty simple. But getting the voice over simply isn't working no matter what I try. Yes I'm sending silence. The number of bytes does go up so I can tell the data is streaming. I even get the right header for the song on the other end but all I get in the stream is silence. when I set the input mode back to winamp my audio stream is heard again. Hi, Yes I just went in to Goldwave and did a test recording. I heard Jaws speaking and I heard winamp playing it's audio stream and my voice from the microphone when I played the recording back. you are able to tell winamp which card or divice to use in the in put out put settings, I started broadcasting yesterday, for the first time, I didn't have a whole lot of help with anything and got it all done in about an hour. I can now select the in and out for winamp and it all seems to work just fine. I now broadcast with the Q online which is found at www.douglaso.com I broadcast on the following schedule: sunday 9 to 2 monday tuesday and wednesday 9 to 11 thursday 9 to 11 and 6 to 10 friday and saturday 9 to 11 I have a good friend syd who broadcasts from 6 to 11 on sunday nights and another one that broadcasts from 6 to 10 on tuesday nights. Hi Everyone, Ok finally figured it all out. I had a USB microphone plugged into the system. So everytime I switched the input mode from winamp to soundcard it was using the USB microphone as the soundcard. I stumbled upon this when I forgot and left the microphone switch on and was playing with the input settings while streaming and heard my voice from the USB microphone. I unplugged it and the SoundBlaster took over and everything works just fine. Oviously the winamp shoutcast plug-in can't handle more than one sound card as the combo box only says winamp or sound card for the inputs and I was not able to select from the USB microphone and the SoundBlaster. I plugged in a USB sound card after I started streaming to get Jaws to switch to it instead of the sound blaster. So all my problems were due to the USB microphone. That's really crazy isn't it? The input can only be changed between winamp and soundcard. If you have multiple sound cards it only seemed to be able to use one of them I had to unplug the USB microphone to get it to use the sound blaster. Not sure why but it's nice I could get it to work finally. Still more to learn but I'm getting there. Hi Rick, aha, that would indeed explain it. Winamp will use the default sound card, so once the USB microphone is connected, Windows treats this is a sound card in its own right. It may have worked to keep the USB plugged in and to go into Control panel and select the other sound card as the default. But anyway, very good to hear you have it sussed now. So everytime I switched the input mode from winamp to soundcard it was using the USB microphone as the soundcard. I stumbled upon this when I forgot and left the microphone switch on and was playing with the input settings while streaming and heard my voice from the USB microphone. I unplugged it and the SoundBlaster took over and everything works just fine. Oviously the winamp shoutcast plug-in can't handle more than one sound card as the combo box only says winamp or sound card for the inputs and I was not able to select from the USB microphone and the SoundBlaster. I plugged in a USB sound card after I started streaming to get Jaws to switch to it instead of the sound blaster. So all my problems were due to the USB microphone. That's really crazy isn't it? But, I would like to suggest that when you find an easy, and simple way to make the process or setting out a Shoutcast stream with the ability to us a mike the way that you are trying to do it; I hope you will do a tutorial on how to set up the server, and get everything running. how exactly did you change between them? When I went to the input tab and tabbed to the combo box where you make the selection winamp or sound card, I only had two options there and not 3. So when I went to sound card with the USB mic plugged in it used it for the sound card. Only once I unplugged it was the sound blaster the sound card. Are you saying you have more options there? or are you using something other than the shoutcast dsp plug in? oddcast had the capibilities to switch between cards for the input source but I am required to use shoutcast by the client. So everytime I switched the input mode from winamp to soundcard it was using the USB microphone as the soundcard. I stumbled upon this when I forgot and left the microphone switch on and was playing with the input settings while streaming and heard my voice from the USB microphone. I unplugged it and the SoundBlaster took over and everything works just fine. Oviously the winamp shoutcast plug-in can't handle more than one sound card as the combo box only says winamp or sound card for the inputs and I was not able to select from the USB microphone and the SoundBlaster. I plugged in a USB sound card after I started streaming to get Jaws to switch to it instead of the sound blaster. So all my problems were due to the USB microphone. That's really crazy isn't it? Now to see if I can teach my client to do this. Thank you everyone that gave me advice, especially Jonathan that got me going in the right direction tonight. Trimming software for Windows media Files
Hi all, I'm using Replay AV to record a lot of material I want to keep. Has anyone found software as accessible as MP3 Direct Cut that works for trimming Windows Media .asf files? Presently I'm using Sound Forge which will save the files without recompressing them, but it takes a while. Thanks for any help. Winamp will use the default sound card, so once the USB microphone is connected, Windows treats this is a sound card in its own right.
