Bruce! I missed the beginning of this thread but sampleing rate is
directly proportional to the size of a resulting Wave file. Double the
sampleing rate and you double the size of the resulting Wave file.

Hi, Bob and list! Well, I was on the verge of buying thesse mikes from
Sound Professionals, when a neigbor of mine went on and on about these mikes
sole by someone named Church or something? Another one of my friends feels
like these sound professional mikes are a bit cheap, or just don't sound
that great. Are there any opinions about this from you guys? Or are my
pals just being snobs! Smile. ONe of the things they were boasting about
is how these Church Mikes, or whatever they are, don't seem to have any
handling noise when used with the R09. What to do, what to do? I'm on the
horns of a dilemma. Any help would be most appreciated.

HI, gang! I'm looking for a couple of stereo mikes form my R09, which
 I
adore. But sometimes I want much wider stereo separation in my
 recordings.
Is there such a critter, for not an ungldly amount of money, like a
 pair
 of
stereo mikes with headphones so I don't have to get more wires tangled
 up
than necessary, that doesn't require a pre-amp, which means more wires?
 Is
this too odd a request? Thanks for any help you all may know about.

 Peace,
 Kathy

 Hello Kathy,

Go to the Sound Professionals web site for the following binaural
 microphone
built into an over the head headphone. The stereo field is awesome.
 If
you move your head from side to side when recording, the listener, on
playback, turns as well. They're not too expensive as binaural
 microphones go.

SP-HMC-1 SOUND PROFESSIONALS HEADPHONE MOUNTED BINAURAL MICROPHONES.
 MADE
 IN
 USA. High Sensitivity.

The quickest way to get to the relevant page is to do a google search
 for:

 sp-hmc-1 binaural

MLB threw a curve

2006-10-03 Thread John Schwery
I went to the game day audio site to hear a playoff game, today, and
the site was changed. There were no audio links. I didn't realize
that i only got the regular season with my subscription. So, I
bought the postseason package for $9.95. As I understand it, one has
to go to an mlb site and so some clicking with the mouse. I don't
know how one positions the page to see the listen link with a Window
Eyes mouse key. It isn't as accessible as it used to be. And, I
think the listen link gives the home team feed.

Creative Xmod Claims to Improve Music

By Nate Mook,
BetaNews
October 3, 2006, 12:50 PM

Creative has unveiled a new device called the Xmod, which is based
upon the company's
X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio platform and promises to improve the audio
quality of
compressed music, such as that purchased from Apple's iTunes or any MP3 files.

Shaped like a candy bar, the Xmod plugs in between an audio source
and stereo speakers
or pair of headphones. It works with any portable audio player
including the iPod,
along with plugging into a computer's USB port without requiring the
use of software.
Creative claims the result is "better than CD quality" sound.

Essentially, the Xmod up-converts the audio signal to 24-bit
surround. The X-Fi Crystalizer
identifies which areas of the audio file have been truncated or
damaged during compression.
Creative says the technology can "restore" the highs and lows of the
music that otherwise
would not have been audible.

The X-Fi CMSS-3D component of the Xmod, meanwhile, creates virtual
surround sound
through speakers or headphones. Because most digital audio included
on movie and
TV show downloads includes only two-channel stereo, Creative has
designed the Xmod
to emulate a multi-channel speaker setup. It can place specific
voices in the virtual
center channel while ambient noise is in the background.

"There are more than 100 million people who listen to MP3, WMA or AAC
music on their
PCs, Macs or iPod or ZEN players, but the quality of this compressed
music is highly
compromised. The Creative Xmod enables them to listen to their music
with audio that
sounds even better than CDs," remarked Creative CEO Sim Wong Hoo.
"All your music
is instantly upconverted to the Xtreme Fidelity standard in real time
through a simple
and compact device."

The Xmod is scheduled to begin shipping this month at a retail price
of $79.99 USD.
An AC adapter is required when using the device with a portable audio player.

Re: Stuttering

2006-10-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I doubt the entries in the Startup tab of msconfig for Nero and Adobe
had anything to do with your stuttering problems. I suspect they either
put utilities in the system tray or sit resident in memory so that Adobe
and Nero load more quickly. Although they may not be the cause of your
stuttering problem, I usually don't have them startup automatically,
since I don't load them that frequently, and I want to free up the
little bit of memory they consume.

If AVG is actively scanning your system, that would generate a lot of IO
activity, which is usually a pretty high priority task and could cause
some stuttering. You say you have a fast system, but there could be
other bottlenecks besides the processor. I know on my other system, I
had some stuttering when Norton was running. I fixed it by updating my
nVidia device drivers.

Replay Converter problems. Please help.

2006-10-03 Thread John Moore
I am trying to convert .ram files to CD-quality .mp3 files. I tell
Replay Converter what to convert it to and the process starts. Then I
keep getting error messages that say that it could not convert the
file. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Is there anything I need
to do first? Thanks.

Do you have any more information? What's in the log file? It's in the
directory where Replay converter is installed, which is probably
something like "C:\Program Files\Replay converter\ReplayConverter.log."

BTW, I've always gotten prompt and helpful service from their customer
support email address.
