Re: Fwd: Great media player!

Can you tell me what advantages this program would have over, say Winamp?
I really like Winamp but if there's something better out there, I want to
know about it.

RE: Winamp Version 5.25.0787 Beta is now Available

2006-07-27 Thread Robert Batchelor
Steve,

Oh my gosh! After to listening to all the bugs that were fixed and to the
other assorted upgrades done to this version, it is a wonder anyone stuck
with this player that had so many bugs in it.

Let us know when you have played around with this newly revamped player to
see if you now think it has been repaired enough to even consider fixing
this new version a try.

Re[2]: Station playlist 4 and configuration

2006-07-27 Thread Patrick Perdue
Hi:

I know this doesn't really have much to do with the subbject, but I'd like to
recommend a much better dual band compressor/limiter/expander:
Try stereotool from
www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Misc__Sound_Tools/Stereo_Tool.html
It beats the crap out of either of the Tomas plugins in terms of sound,
usability and CPU usage.

 Hello Ken,

On Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 11:48:38 PM, you bellowed the following:

During America's Age of Reconstruction, from Andrew Johnson (Lincoln's vice
president) to Chester A. Arthur, the ruptured nation faced the difficult task
of rebuilding a union after four years of civil war and a presidential
assassination. This period was also known as the era of "The Ohio
Generals"--three of the five presidents featured in this hour were
generals in the Civil War, all from the state of Ohio. Defining moments include
the impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson (by a margin of one, the Senate voted
not to convict him), the triumphant ascendancy of Ulysses S. Grant, the
back-room politics of Rutherford B. Hayes, the unrequited aspirations of James
Garfield, and the civil service reforms of Chester A. Arthur

Re: dvd audio extractor question

2006-07-27 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, you probably downloaded a .torrent file, which would only have taken
a second to download. You'll need a torrent client like
www.UTorrent.com
and will need to configure that. If you have actually downloaded the
torrent, then you'll need to see what file extention it is, because it may
need to be unzipped, or otherwise unpacked. If you've done that, and you
have a folder with audio ts and video ts, then you need to give DVD Audio
Extractor the .vob files inside the folders in order to get going with
listening or extracting. I hope this info helps.
Thanks a lot.

hi Robert,
These are minor bugs. All things have these kinds of bugs to be fixed.
Personally, I'm extremely greatful there are alternatives to the nasty and
disgusting windows media out there. Winamp has only ever crashed about 2
times for me, and that was because of my error. I'd definitely suggest going
and getting it.

2006-07-27 Thread Robert Batchelor
Brandon,

I haven't gotten to the advanced level of editing or remixing anything on
any player yet. That was the main reason of joining this list so I could
hear all the buzz about different applications and their ease of use and
etc. Then I will go and get the best/easiest to use application and then
start posting questions like all are doing here.

So keep up the posts and comments all!

Good luck to you all,

These are minor bugs. All things have these kinds of bugs to be fixed.
Personally, I'm extremely greatful there are alternatives to the nasty and
disgusting windows media out there. Winamp has only ever crashed about 2
times for me, and that was because of my error. I'd definitely suggest going
and getting it.

2006-07-27 Thread Richard Claypool
I've rairly had any problems that were fixed. I've found winamp to be a
very stable piece of software.

In any program there are going to be bugs. I personally am happy that aol
is fixing these bugs instead of leaving them floating around in the code.

I've been using winamp since version 0.9 or there abouts.

2006-07-27 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. Yes, I agree. Accept don't get the beta, especially if you're
not comfortable with beta software.
For the best stability, go for the last full release version. and
yes, these are all very minor bugs. For years, people always worried
that Winamp would be less accessible with newer versions.
Unfortunately this is partially right, due to the fact that the
interface of the Media Library has changed. There are JAWS scripts
out there, available at
http://wwwjfwlite.com
although when I tried them, they actually disabled some of the other
JAWS script functions.

Chris,

Have you let Jim Grimsby and David Truang know what was disabled? The reason
that I am asking is that , on another issue, David and I were communicating
and he said that the new scripts were written off of the old scripts, that
he wrote, such a long time ago! I have been able to get them to work; what
specific problems have you been having?

There are JAWS scripts
out there, available at
http://wwwjfwlite.com
although when I tried them, they actually disabled some of the other
JAWS script functions.

brodcasting with shoutcast

2006-07-27 Thread Jim Ruby
Hi,

I have the shoutcast server setup and using simplecast to stream. I have a
few questions.

Is there a special order I should be starting things up to begin brodcasting
because I have a heck of a time getting in to stream, but once it does it
then works ok.
I would presume I start the shoutcast server up then simplecast and have it
begin encoding.

Second I would like to broadcast voice and some music, but it needs to be at
32 kbps, what is the lowest I might be able to go and have the stream sound
ok.. The reason I need it at 32k or lower is because I want to broadcast
out to gprs networks. So would 32/16 be ok?

Also is there any place out there I can use to relay for free?

Thanks for any suggestions and help getting this to work.

Re: Winamp Version 5.25.0787 Beta is now Available

2006-07-27 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. Yes, Jim Grimsby and I have been talking and he is
stumped. After installing his updated scripts, I was no longer able
to get information such as announce total time of track, control plus
insert plus t, announce elapsed time of track, alt plus shift plus t,
and announce remaining time of track, control plus shift plus t.
After installing the updated scripts, if I pressed any of those key
combinations, nothing was spoken. No error message or any output
from JAWS at all, just silence. it was as if those script functions
had been completely disabled. I swear to you guys I'm really not
making this up!
So I replaced the old scripts and things are back to the way they
were before.
But that's what happened. I rely on these scripts for a lot of
broadcasting work, so I don't want to have to go without those
functions, just so I can have access to the media library, which I
hardly ever used to begin with.
But that's what happened.

Re: Winamp Version 5.25.0787 Beta is now Available

2006-07-27 Thread Mac Norins
Chris,

Just so you know that this is not a global problem, those commands are
working fine, on my machine, at least in the play list editor section, of
the media library! I am running JAWS 7.00.135u on an XP Home system, with
Win Amp version 5.24with the new scripts. BTW, the issue that I have been
talking to David about revolves around the SQR Disc Writer plug in,
specifically getting crossfades to appear on playlists, on burned see deeze;
now, since you are broadcasting, this might not be an issue that you could
speak to, but, maybe someone else could. I cannot get the disc writer to
write the crossfades in, when I burn; any idea which specific preset needs
to be engaged, in the preset tab and how to manipulate the cross fade
numbers, in the crossfade tab?

Don't want to get too far off the subject at hand!

Thanks,

-Mac-

Hi,

It's the standard dialog box for say like notepad.

in the open file box you'll hit tab and hear soemthing like file types and
the 1st option is supported filetypes. I think the all files is the last
option in that combobox.

Does anyone know the ins and outs, of the SQR Discwriter plug in?

2006-07-27 Thread Mac Norins
Hello Listers,

I have been trying to get the SQR Disc Writer plug in to work, to create cee
deeze, with cross faded play lists. I did this once, but, I didn't document
the procedure. I need to know which of the presets will create the fade in
and fade out, that we all hear, so slickly used on radio. I guess I could
go to Soundforge, but, that would require yet another learning curve, which,
I am afraid, I would like to avoid!

Are there any other programs, which will accomplish this? Please give me
any and all details, that any with more experience, than I have, may know!

Many Thanks,

Mac Norins

Hi, Tim.
If you could give us a step by step on any of the more popular audio
packages, SF, GW, EZ CD DA Extractor, whatever, I'd be most grateful. I've
never gotten them to do conversion from real audio to MP3 (they do the
reverse most satisfactorily), though I certainly have tried.

I thought Live365 might still have something free, but that means that the
listener pays then. You probably won't get their stuff on GPRS because they
use all that embedded player stuff that will probably not work if it detects

RE: Real Audio to MP3

2006-07-27 Thread Aman Singer
Hi, Rick.
I simply cannot get Goldwave to open a .rm/ra/ram (when RAM contains
sound) files. I have set GoldWave to show all files but, though I see the rm
file and can hit enter to open it, I get this error

File Format
Cannot determine format of file:
file1.rm
Please specify a format below.
File type: Raw (snd, raw)
Attributes: PCM signed 16 bit, little endian, mono
Rate (Hz): 8000 Custom... Data >>
OK Cancel Help

When I say OK to the raw file type it wants to open it as, and hit
space to play it, I get a loud noise rather than any content. Have you done
anything specific to Goldwave to make it open the file? I'm using Goldwave
version 5.14.
Thanks.

Handheld Digital Recorder with USB Cable

2006-07-27 Thread Robert Batchelor
Greetings List,

I am looking for a hand held digital voice recorder with a U S B cable that
will let me transfer my recording to my computer. I want to use this type
of

device to take notes during my computer course training so I may down load
them to my computer and access the notes later to review the lesson.

One problem I am having is finding a device that has large function buttons
on the device as I have large hands and developing neuropathy issues and
need to be able to differentiate the feel or touch in between the buttons.

I know that there cassette recorders out there but find them rather large
and I don't want the hassle of the time limitations of cassettes and the
always flipping of the cassette when it runs out on one side and then have a
gap missing in the recording while ejecting and flipping the cassette over
to the other side and resume recording of the lesson.

I have tried the Olympus W S 100. I found the buttons too small and not
enough differential in the buttons in size and spacing to tell them apart.

Has anyone heard of a device that might fit my needs?

Thanks in advance,

Bob Batchelor

Re: USB Turntable

2006-07-27 Thread Matthew Bullis
No, exactly the opposite. The needle will be fine for 33s and 45s, but will
not be ideal for 78s. Though the 78s may play, you won't get the best sound.
I don't know if the arm has one of those screw-on pieces, but if it does,
then you should be able to buy the 78 attachment. If it is an all-in-one
piece, then you're pretty much stuck with the needle that comes with it.
Thanks a lot.

Lax time-keeping on internet radio

2006-07-27 Thread David Allen
Hello:

I've set up Total recorder to capture internet radio streams. The down side of
doing this is that you are dependent on that station to follow the schedule
they publish. Today, I set up a recording that allowed for a recording of 1
hour 5 minutes to capture a scheduled broadcast of 1 hour. When I checked the
recording, the programme I wanted began around 25 minutes into my recording.
This didn't happen because my computer's clock was off. But my point is I only
got half the programme I intended. Fortunately, this ended up being a repeat
broadcast so I haven't actually missed anything, and this has done no harm. I
don't know what happened, but obviously, the station was running on auto-pilot
because random music played for the first 25 minutes of my recording. If
internet broadcasters expect to be taken seriously, they need to pay a bit
closer attention to maintaining the schedule they promise.

Cheers,
Dave

RE: wanting to record tapes on to my computer

2006-07-27 Thread Allison Mervis
Go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control. Then hit
alt P and enter on properties. Arrow down to adjust volume for recording,
and hit ok. Then you'll tab through a dialog of various devices.
There's a select check box for each one, including line in.
Allison
