RE: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Gary, I have been a user of Veronica products for seven years and am
thrilled with their service and performance. Earlier this year, I purchased
the cCrane FM transmitter. It is very well laid out with nice friendly
controls on the top of the unit for powering on and off, and adjusting the
frequency. There is an audio review of this unit on MosenExplosion.com.
However, even when the unit has been modified to broadcast at maximum power,
it's useless compared with the Veronica. We live in quite a built-up area in
a very small apartment, and we can't even enjoy static free reception
throughout all of it. The Veronica, on the other hand, works beautifully in
such environments. For me, the Veronica wins hands down.

The Minx, the Internet radio station that plays all the great love songs.

Re: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Terese Ann Goren
It's wonderful. We have a laptop near our entertainment center which
is connected to the wierless internet. We simply find the station or
mp3's we want to listen to, plug it into the transmitter and
presto! Music all over the house. Cleaner then anything we can find
on local radio.

RE: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all Just something to keep in mind when using any kind of especially FM
transmitter.

If a transmitter works for about half a block in your locale, it does not
necessarily mean that it will do the same at another locale. There are many
factors that influence the propogation of radio waves - as those of you who
know more than I do about the subject will know.

I am always sceptical when reading manufacturers' claims about the distance
FM transmitters can work These specifications are compiled very often under
ideal conditions which hardly if ever exist in real life.

Just something to keep in mind when working with FM transmitters.

Regards

Andre

Hi,

From what you say, you did not rip the file. You just copied the
index file pointing to the audio files on the cd to your folder. To
play the songs in winamp, Just highlight the files and press the
applications key, thus bringing up a context menu. Play in winamp
should appear in this menu. Just press enter on that option and your
music should be played. Hope this helps.

Hi,

C Crane will cost around seventy dollars, delivered. All
you do is plug it in, or put a battery, which will last for months,
and then plug it in to your speaker output jack. I've got mine
plugged into one branch of a splitting cable, with the powered
speakers in the other branch. You may or may not need to fiddle with
the screw adjustment, depending on how it comes in straight out of
the box. I did it to mine and I can listen to fm radio out on my
deck, but not beyond my driveway.

RE: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Terese Ann Goren
This is definitely true. Let me give you an idea about our
surroundings. We live in an apartment complex which contains
about150 units. It is in the middle of a heavily populated area in
town surrounded by restaurants, shopping, office buildings and lots
of traffic. We have never had a problem with interference.

That being said I should mention that the Varonica comes with the
frequency already set. Therefore, we made sure that we picked a
setting that was totally void of any other broadcasting in our area.

RE: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Jouie
All people here,

Rip your music first before it can be played in winamp as you like. I mean
if your tracks are on the CD, probably, it is an audio file with an
extention of ".cda". All you have to do is to have a converter installed on
your system for you to create a compilation as you wish. If the format is
changed, you can use winamp to play this file, I mean the music file. You
can then burn it again to have it to your car, ok?

Enjoy!

Josh,
I did the same thing. OOPS! My files won't play either. Smile I didn't
realize that doing it this way wouldn't work.
Can anyone tell me why it doesn't work?
What if I wanted to make a compilation to play in the car? Don't I have to
use that kind of file? If not that kind of file then how?
Thanks

I'm assuming the Veronica transmitters have dipswitches to change the
frequency? If so, is there a nice, easy to read chart for the dipswitch
settings and their corresponding frequencies? I'm thinking of getting
one of the kits and having someone build a custom case for it, although
I don't know what their boxes look like. I was thinking a dicast
aluminum case might work, and I have access to someone who could do that
for me.

Hello,
I just got my FM transmitter back from C Crane. I thought that the people
were very nice to work with.
You mentioned that the Veronica came pre set to a dial position. I was
wondering if you or anyone knew if out there in this wide world if a list of
stations for a given area is available.
I can't seam to find a good station for my setting.
Thanks to all of you.
I learned of the transmitter here on this list and I love it!

Andre

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. but if you try to play the .cda file in Winamp, it won't
play. So, let's make this really super simple.

Use Winamp, or any other CD ripping program to rip the tracks from
your CD into mp3 or any other format you choose.

To make a compilation to play in a regular CD player, you need to
burn, not rip, but burn a cd of all your songs. Ripping and burning
are different processes.
So even if you just copied the.cda files from your cd to your hard
drive, Winamp wouldn't be able to play it, because all Winamp does is
access your Windows cd player to play the files, it doesn't actually
have a cd player built into it. Winamp just routes the cd player to
it and plays the CD through it instead of the CD player.
Hope that makes sense?

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread josh n rivera
Well now Chris,
Where do I go to find out how to rip from cd to mp3? Do I do that with
Nero or a program like that? Also, I installed the dsp audio stalker in
the plug ins folder of Win Amp, but I can't find it in the plugins in Win
Amp now. So where did it go? I hit ctrl p to bring up the prefferences,
but when I arrow down through the list that comes up, I can't get to the
wave out item. Can you help with this?
Thanks in advance.
Josh

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread josh n rivera
I already found out that his suggestion wouldn't work, unfortunately.
Another thing, when I try to play files that have been coppied to the
hard drive from mp3 disks, the volume in Win Amp is so low that I can
hardly hear them. How can I fix this? I use to be able to play them just
fine till I had a computer crash, and had to re-install my programs. So
somewhere in that process things got messed up in Win Amp.

Re: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello, I hope to elicit answers from persons who have had hands-on
experience both with the Veronica, with the C Crane, and also with the
Ramsey.

I use my C Crane transmitters in a number of situations. I carry it
from one room to another, sometimes connecting it to my Rio Volt,
sometimes to my Iriver, and sometimes to my sound card.

So what I want to know is, just how do these three transmitters compare
in terms of portability and connectivity? Does each have a pot which
can be used to optimize the level of the source device with the input of
the transmitter?Regardless of how good it is, the Veronica would not
meet my needs if it cannot be easily moved and reconnected. Also, how
easy is it for a totally blind user to change frequency on the Veronica
or on the Ramsey? Specifically, how easily can the dip switches on the
Veronica be modified?

Thanks for responses.

Don Roberts

I'll have to ask Michael but I do know that out of the box the
transmitter carries about a half a block or so.

Re: Re[2]: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Shannon,

What I do is to go to a place on the fm dial where there is
nothing, and then find that place with the c crane transmitter. I
set something playing on the computer, and then just keep pressing
the frequency up until the blank spot on the fm radio starts playing
in sync with the computer.

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Chris Skarstad

At 11:50 AM 2/21/2006, Josh asked:

>Where do I go to find out how to rip from cd to mp3? Do I do that with
>Nero or a program like that?

Nope, you would use Nero to burn your cd, not rip the audio from
it. When you rip a cd, you convert it to mp3. You can use CDEX,
Easy CD DA Extractor, or if you wanna take a whole lot of time and
like using really slow programs, Winamp can do it. I found that even
the pro addition of Winamp, which claims to rip audio from your cds
as fast as your computer drive would allow, took twice as long as any
other program.
and my cd rom drive is 52x, so it seems to me it shouldn't take too
long. So get yourself one of those and convert your cds to mp3.
There's your answer on that one.

Now Josh continues...

> Also, I installed the dsp audio stalker in
>the plug ins folder of Win Amp, but I can't find it in the plugins in Win
>Amp now. So where did it go? I hit ctrl p to bring up the prefferences,

The Audiostocker is located in the DSP/effect part of the tree view,
not in the output section.
So go to dsp/effect in the tree view and you should find it there.

Hope that helps.

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi,

I'm not Chris, but get cdex. Its free, but by no means the
only ripping option. I personally prefer ez cd extractor at:
www.poikosoft.com
which can rip cd's, convert files from one audio format to another,
and burn audio cd's.

Which ever ripping program you ultimately choose, make sure
it uses one of the cd identification databases out there, so that you
have real titles to your ripped songs and not generic names like
track01, track02 et cetera!

I think it would have to do with what is available in your area. We
picked 99.7 because no one was broadcasting on that frequency in our area.

Re[2]: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Pam Drake
Hello,

unless they have changed within the past several years, , the veronica's frequency is set by means of a
small capacitor, on the board
itself. We also made sure to set the frequency away from other
stations. You should be able to do that by tuning it to the quietest
place on the dial, which you do by tuning a radio to the same frequency.

I bought an aluminum case from Radio Shack over their 800 telephone
number. I don't have that number handy but I'm sure you could find
it. Check Radioshack.com. I also forget the part number you'll need
but they can help you with that. I found the phone representative
very knowledgeable about what I needed.

While we're on the subject, I read a post yesterday from someone who
said their whip antenna will not remain in place on the
Veronica. Why not contact Veronica.co.uk or possibly call Hobbytron
to see if you need a new antenna or perhaps a new connector.

Hope this helps.

Re[2]: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Pam Drake
I neglected to mention that, though the Veronica does come with a
connector for a 9-Volt battery, I purchased a power supply for it. I
asked the people at Veronica to do this to be sure I had the best one
for avoiding hum. They found me a fine one which is working to this
day, as well as the transmitter.

The transmitter, even as an assembled kit, came to me as a circuit
board with all the components assembled on it. As I said earlier,
you will almost certainly want some kind of metal case in which to
permanently mount it. Before I got the case it would drift off
frequency as soon as I or anyone got near it. After mounting, it has
maintained the same frequency for over four years.

It's very interesting when someone sighted glances at my stereo and
wants to know what's tuned in at 92.6. One friend happened to
mention one day that she liked the station I was playing, but hadn't
been able to find it on her car radio.I had to tell her she
wouldn't find it, and why.

RE: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Pam Drake
You can buy one from the factory in England at veronica.co.uk, or
through a company called Hobbytron at hobbytron.com. Either company
will assemble the kit for you; and Hobbytron does sell them already
mounted in a case.

Yes, it does come with a set frequency, but like others, it can be
changed with dip switches. I asked that it be set at a certain
frequency, after Terese helped me find one.

2006-02-21 Thread anthony campbell
hi kiven, you need to go to the control pannel and then to the folder
options then ctrl tab to view. once you are in the view tab. tab to the
advanced and arrow down to show hidden folders. then go to apply and then
to ok. that should now show all the folders.

cheers anthony

Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Larry Higgins
Here are what I hope will be some straight forward instructions for
getting the job done. In Winamp, go to the context menu by pressing
the alt key, then go to the Winamp menu option, then look for the
play option, under there you will find an option for playing audio
cd. Press enter on that option, and your audio cd should start to
play. If Winamp doesn't play the tracks in order, return to options
in the above mention winamp menu, and look for shuffle. if the
option is checked, uncheck it. If you want Winamp to shuffle the
tracks, leave it alone.

I think the problem is he copied the tracks from the CD, and ejected the CD
after that. The method is just highlight, copy, paste. So how can winamp
play this shortcuts without their sources?

Settle first, if the user has the CD on his/her CD rom before making any

Subject: Re: Why can't I play in Winamp?

hi. but if you try to play the .cda file in Winamp, it won't play. So,
let's make this really super simple.

Use Winamp, or any other CD ripping program to rip the tracks from your CD
into mp3 or any other format you choose.

To make a compilation to play in a regular CD player, you need to burn, not
rip, but burn a cd of all your songs. Ripping and burning are different
processes.
So even if you just copied the.cda files from your cd to your hard drive,
Winamp wouldn't be able to play it, because all Winamp does is access your
Windows cd player to play the files, it doesn't actually have a cd player
built into it. Winamp just routes the cd player to it and plays the CD
through it instead of the CD player.
Hope that makes sense?

RE: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Jouie
Hi people, I have something to teach. If your music files are in low volume,
you can turn it up by:

If you have there MP3 files, rip it to wav files, then play it to sound
recorder; a program came along with your OS there, then go to effects menu,
then up the volume till you get satisfied. Then save, then rip them back to
MP3 where they originate.

I already found out that his suggestion wouldn't work, unfortunately.
Another thing, when I try to play files that have been coppied to the hard
drive from mp3 disks, the volume in Win Amp is so low that I can hardly hear
them. How can I fix this? I use to be able to play them just fine till I had
a computer crash, and had to re-install my programs. So somewhere in that
process things got messed up in Win Amp.

RE: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Larry Higgins
Obviously Winamp can't play without the source. I think this person
thought he could rip the cd through winamp by simply copying as he
would from any data disk. I think it's just a case of not quite
comprehending the difference. Must be a beginner thing. I hate to
admit it, but I'm sure I've come to a few of these erroneous
conclusions myself especially in my novice years, but pride will not
let me publicly recall them all .

RE: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Jouie
I also came to that stupidity for others, but a good experience for me. I
may not know all these things without that kind of events. I'm talking to
copying just the sortcuts knowing that it will do, but being the beginner
that time, I'm proud to have that situation. Now I know, you have to acquire
a software before ripping can be performed.

Re: FM Transmitters`

2006-02-21 Thread Gary Wood
Hi Jonathan! That sounds great! I don't know when or if I'll get an fm
transmitter, but it sure sounds like a good idea to me. With things like
this, we don't have to be tethered to our computers any more. Nowadays, we
can listen to ACBRadio, and the Minks anywhere!

RE: Why can't I play in Winamp?

2006-02-21 Thread Larry Higgins
All this is true. Life lessons come through lots of trial and error,
and if we are afraid of failure, we'd never dare to try anything new.
So just keep right on livin' and learnin.' Actually, I really kind of
miss those days myself. I started out in the days of DOS, where you
had to learn many commands in order to make the best of your computer
experience. I especially remember the first time I was able to make
my first batch files run successfully. Now batch files are when you
make a file that consists of a series of commands, so that you don't
have to remember so many commands at once. All you did was to type in
one command, and more than one or two were performed, saving you a
lot of effort when doing common tasks. These kinds of discovery made
you feel like a wide eyed child again.

OK, I'll stop babbling. Just keep on learning, and asking questions,
and I'm sure we'll all be glad to help.

2006-02-21 Thread Jouie
OK, the point is, when you are new on that situation, don't just feel like
so frustrated, world has ended and cry like a monkey. There are I'm sure
some people who are willing to be asked for somethin and you will surely get
positive results and all that and everythin that will ease you from your
trouble. Like you said, experienced people are sometimes better than who
studied four-five years. Maybe today you don't know those yet; but after
24/25 hours you know then the things better than they do.
