The original Batch Processor that came with Sound Forge 5.0 and 6.0 was
actually taken off the market because Sonic Foundry thought it was so buggy.

Re: Media Player: Ripping/Burning

2006-02-16 Thread Kevin Lloyd
Hi Katrina.

You can only rip a CD that has been burned as an audio CD, that is, it will
play in a standard CD player.

I don't know I-Tunes but assume that the MP3 option will burn the CD in the
same way as it would a data CD, that is, a set of files.

Regards.

2006-02-16 Thread Warren Goodwin
Hi. I think you may be slightly exagerating your comments. Sure, there's
some high end loss but not enough to make the station unlistenable. If you
have a decent pair of stereo speakers the sound is quite acceptable. You
should also be aware that any new radio station can possibly have teathing
problems. I heard a commercial station in Australia in 1980 which came on
the air and because their limiter wasn't working properly they had to keep
adjusting the sound to compensate. Foor goodness sake, give Jonathan a fair
go and remember where some of you got your start in broadcasting. If he
hadn't started ACB Radio Interactive some of you people who are so quick to
be critical wouldn't be broadcasting today.

hi. I've noticed the *exact* same thing, and I
know of 2 or 3 other people who have noticed it too.
It's as if there is absolutely no high end on the
signal, like an AM radio station might sound, or
something like a 24k or 32k mp3 stream may
sound. I'm not in any way complaining about this
as I explained to Jonathan privately, but I
wanted to confirm what Dana is saying here.
It's like there's a whole lot of bass, but very little to no high
frequencies.
Let's hope we can track it down very soon!

Re: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

2006-02-16 Thread Brent Harding
There's a station around here on FM that's been on since 51. It seems to
have almost no high or low at all as they must filter that all out. I
suspect they do this because at times you hear a high-pitch tone on the
radio from them that they probably haven't figured any other way to
eliminate but equalizing out a bunch. I believe they still use the gear they
had back then. Now I think Jonathan's station sounds a whole lot better than
the first night.

Warren,

As the one who started the feedback in this thread, I think I can speak for
everyone else who offered their comments: NONE of our comments were, or were
intended, to disparage Jonathan, his efforts, or The Minx, IN ANY WAY. They
were, AND ARE, offered in the spirit of HELPFUL feedback, to assist in
PRECISELY the teething process to which you alluded. And, I'm sure,
Jonathan, himself, understands our feedback in just that way.

RE: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

2006-02-16 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Warren, thanks for your support. I know that for those who were affected
by the original problem, the audio sounded really, really bad, so I've no
problem with getting feedback. The issue is resolved now, and we're down to
good old personal preference now. There has been and will continue to be
much debate over the appropriate level of compression and equalisation. I've
been in this game long enough to know that you're never going to please
everyone on that front. But the good news is that the original, quite
serious problem affecting some listeners is now gone. Thanks.

The Minx, the Internet radio station that plays all the great love songs.

Chris,

I concur, plus there is a little scratchiness in the voice range (whatever
that may mean!).

2006-02-16 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Michael, I have absolutely no clue. It was hard because none of the
computers here exhibited the problem when I played the stream so it was a
hard one for me to emulate. I ended up changing my DSP plug-in for
Shoutcasting, changing the compressor used, and a few other random things.
One of those things fixed it.

The Minx, the Internet radio station that plays all the great love songs.

2006-02-16 Thread Rick Alfaro
Not sure if Jonathan has done some more tweaking since my last comments, but
the stream now sounds great. That near clipping effect I was hearing last
night is no longer there. It sounds really good, clean and punchy with
great highs and good bass. Listening with Winamp.

hi. Yep, it sounds absolutely beautiful now!!
See, that's exactly what I meant before, the fact
that I was mentioning that the audio sounded
awful was to *help* Jonathan fix the problem, and
offer suggestions as to how to fix it, not to
give him trouble. After all, he was the one who
helped me get my start, so I feltt it only fare
and proper to help him in return. It's all fixed
now, so that's a good thing, the story has a happy ending. yay!

Re: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

2006-02-16 Thread Charles Reichardt
Hello List.

Today I purchased a plantronics stereo u s b headset for my computer
listening. After installing it I fine, that I can't play audio on both the
soundcard and the headset at the same time. As a result, Jaws plays on the
headset while music etc plays on from the sound card. Is there a way to play
on both simotaneously?

In addition, the usb headset is suppose to use the audio controls in the
control pannel operated by switches on the headset wire, but this is not
working either. The headphones sound wonderful and I'd rather not send them
back, but if I need to I will.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Charlie

Joe, the ICD-MX20 is great. One can change its menus with the supplied
screen reader friendly software. Its recordings are of good quality, but
not good enough for radio broadcasts, the maximum audio quality is 48
KBPS. If you work for newspapers etc., you should have no problems with
this audio quality.

quality of xm radio was Re: The Minx

Well now, it all depends on the equipment being
used. If you're using a crappy pare of speakers,
then it'll show. I have a XM MyFi and really
love the quality on my home stereo unit, so everyone's ears are different.
