Re: Disapointed about H340

2006-01-26 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. that is the wonderful, and awful thing about Rockbox. By the time the
Rockbox dudes are able to port the software to a model of player, it's
discontinued and you can't even buy them accept on Ebay. I do like my
archos player, but I really would like to be able to just go out, buy a
current model of player, install rockbox on it and do stuff with it.

Re[2]: ALLOFMP3 EXPLORER

2006-01-26 Thread john G
Yes, Patrick, that is correct. My feeling is that
allofmp3 is run entirely on a unix-based system
and as you say, using quotation marks doesn't
always resolve the issues with space chars in
file names - get the number of quote marks wrong and you're stuck!

I don't know if that assumption is correct, especially with a
multi-channel sound card like the one you have. There are reasons
why enabling a second soundcard for your screenreader makes sense,
like if you were using your pc to record and you wanted to keep the
speech out of the stream you are recording, but your screenreader
won't run any better by enabling your onboard soundcard while running
the turtlebeach.

I use Bear share. There is a regular version of BS and a pro version which
knocks out the ads, I guess. I have the pro version. It works pretty good
with jaws. If anyone is familiar with nutella, then you may be able to work
this program.

RE: Disapointed about H340

2006-01-26 Thread Kevin Cussick
Hi all,

Before running out and installing the latest version of rock box for
the river 340 or 320, please remember it is still in beta!

I installed it a week or 2 ago and I was listening to a book when
suddenly my I river just went quiet I thought the battery had just
died, but the whole thing has crashed and I had to format the drive
now when I try to put the rock box on it does not start up it just
sits their I will post to the rock box and find out what is going on.

But having sed all this I still think the folks at rock box do a
fantastic job this is in no way meant as a criticism just an
observation all the best.

Yes, if you use the browser and not the explorer, there is a button at the
bottom of the song list that is a select all button. There is I'm sure a way
to do it with their tool, I'll find out and get back to you this afternoon.

P.S. I agree, it is a very well kept secret.

Re: Re[2]: New flashrecorder from Edirol

2006-01-26 Thread linwood
Dear Gary:

As I understand it, Flash cards are digital and just like you can set the
speed of your screen reader voice, you can sbuy flash cards with different
speeds and when the info is available it will say something like 25s.
Usually the faster the speed the more money you pay. Problem is many flash
cards don't give you an x rating!

Re: alternate to winmx

2006-01-26 Thread Richard Claypool
Hi,

very accessable. The biggest problem is that the message window will read
as one long line of text.

With some jaws cursor monipulation, one can access the user list, but for
most people starting out that won't be so important.

Make sure to maximize the program when first starting it or jaws won't read
it correctly.

Re: NASCAR On The Radio

2006-01-26 Thread Dean masters
I would doubt that NASCAR would let them stream the races. There is a local
talk station that streams some of its programs but they only stream their
local programs and not the national ones.

Roden,

I believe the same policy is still in effect. You can download and use the
program, for free. But, until you pay the registration fee, you only have
access to the extractor (I.e., ripping) component.

Re: ALLOFMP3 EXPLORER

2006-01-26 Thread Terese Ann Goren
I have used the explorer for downloading my stuff
but I find I just go to the website to find what
I'm looking for. When I do use the explorer I
find it very easy to use. Once I got my settings
the way I wanted I have to navigate very little in there. I am also a WE user.

I find Limewire works pretty well. Not quite the variety winmx had

All I do is go to the website, select the order
this album link, go thru the motions there, and
when I open my allofmp3 explorer the album immediatly starts downloading.

hello there

2006-01-26 Thread Terese Ann Goren
Hello Listers,

Some of you might recognize me from the other exploders lists. I
just wanted to say Hi and give you a bit of background.

I won't go on and on and on and on but I toured nationally with a
couple of music groups and interned at a studio for about 6 years or
so. All this stuff fascinates me. I've always been a music junky.

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi before I started spouting my opinions
off about stuff. Have a great day!

Terese

Help with AresP2P?

2006-01-26 Thread Wes Derby
Hi All.

After hearing about it on the JFW list, I went ahead and decided to try
AresP2P. The first time I tried it, it froze my computer completely, but
that's besides the point...Last night, I installed it and got it working, found
some files and downloaded them. My question is, with this program, how do I
set it to share MY files with other users? I used to use WinMX, and with that,
it was easy...Under the Options, you selected the folders you wanted shared,
and you're done. This program didn't appear to have anything under preferences
or anything. I went to the "Library" tab, and I THINK I added my "My Music"
and "MP3" folders, but I'm not sure if that's all it takes to share the files.

Can anyone who's used or is using this program let me know what I need to do?
I seem to have figured everything else in the program out. If it helps, I'm
running WinXP, SP2 with JAWS 5.10.

Also, has anyone upgraded to the Pro version? I'm tempted to do it just to get
rid of the annoying pop-up asking me to upgrade, but I can't see, other than
getting rid of the pop-up, what advantages it has...Does it speed up your
downloads, give you more search results? Just curious.

Hello Matthew,

On Thursday, January 26, 2006, 2:47:12 PM, you bellowed the following:
> need sighted assistance to get into the BIOS settings, which come up before
> Windows loads. Have your assistant set your onboard sound card to the
> primary sound card, while still keeping your preferred sound card enabled.

If you don't have sited assistance around, just jump the bios battery,
which will set everything to defaults anyway.
Most motherboards have a jumper next to the bios battery. Failing that,
just take the battery out and leave it out for a few minutes.

Re: using two sound cards

2006-01-26 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Josh and Matthew,

If your using JAWS and Eloquence, there's an easier way to accomplish this,
which does NOT require sighted assistance.

In the JAWS program folder, find and open the jfw.ini file. Fine the section
labeled
[Synthesizers] In this section, you'll find the following lines, with the
exception of the line I've marked with asterisks:

Synth1Name=eloq
Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
Synth1Driver=eloq
***Synth1Port=C-Media Wave Device***
Synth2Name=NoSpeech
Synth2LongName=No Speech
Synth2Driver=nospeech
Synth3Name=SAPI 5X
Synth3LongName=SAPI 5
Synth3Driver=sapi5x

Insert the line I marked with asterisks, BUT where I have C-Media Wave
Device, you must substitute the exact name of the sound card you want JAWS
to use, as it appears in the Default Device drop-down, in Control Panel,
Sound and Audio Devices, Audio page. (Be sure that the case and spacing in
the name you substitute is exact, and be sure there are no spaces on either
side of the equals sign.) This forces eloquence to use the named sound card,
regardless of which card is selected as the default device. You can now
select a different card as your default device, and JAWS will still use the
named device.

I don't remember the details of the original issue for which Josh wanted to
know how to use two different sound cards. But hope this will help.

Blessed Be,

OH! I forgot to mention, after editing and saving the changes to jfw.ini,
you must exit and restart JAWS before they take effect.

Re: using two sound cards

2006-01-26 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I don't know if changing this line will allow you to switch between
them at will though. Upon reboot, Jaws uses onboard. If I unload and then
load up Jaws again, it goes to the SB card. When I reboot, it goes to the
onboard, so depending on where I want Jaws, I can control it this way.
Thanks a lot.

Re[2]: using two sound cards

What you can do is create another entry in the INI file using the same
drivers, a different port, and a different long name.
This way, you can switch between sound cards.

Sorry, I know nothing about WindowEyes. I suggest you ask on one of the

Re: using two sound cards

2006-01-26 Thread Tim Grady
Certainly can, and much easier than JFW. After
you enable your onboard soundcard, go to the
sounds settings in control pannel and make your
turtlebeach the default soundcard. Then go into
the window-eyes control pannel and choose the
select synthesizer option.  Choose the
synthesizer you want. Say it is SAPI5. Hit the
tab key and you'll be in a list of SAPI5 engines
to choose from. Hit the tab again and you should
end up in a list of sound cards to choose
from. The list of sound cards will always show
up provided you have more than 1 sound card enabled.
