about various topics on this list

2005-10-24 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
The moderation of this list is really not consistent.

Some people are allowed to post some topics while others aren't.

What has limewire and jaws specifically to do with audio?
I recall the moderator has stated that postings only about peer 2 peer
networks are not sutable for this list?

Best regards
Brian

Re: about various topics on this list

2005-10-24 Thread John
I should leave the job of moderation to the moderator, Brian. it is
very fortunate that Jonathan Mosen is an easy-going reasonable sort
of person unlike some I could care to mention.
PC Audio is a list for the blind community to share and explore ways
of taking full advantage of digital audio tools on and off the
computer. Of course, in the case of software tools, the only way a
blind person can gain access to the interface is via a screen
reader. So, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise to you, Mr. Brian,
that people are mentioning JAWS or Window-Eyes in their posts
The subject of P2p networks is perfectly legitimate and relevant to
PC Audio too. Again, the focus is on digital audio files and their management.
John

2005-10-24 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi John,
Well I might just be a bit old then.
But I really think I remember that Jeff has stated so in an earlier mail.
I'm for my part subscribed to many lists, and if all of these all covers the
same topics it can be a bit confusing, where to post a question.

Just my 2 cents all though we have Danish kroner here. *gg*

Best regards

Re: m4a files

2005-10-24 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Julie,

This strikes me as all the more reason to switch from Nero to Easy CD-DA
Extractor. I've never used Nero. But, from all that I've read, it sounds as
if Easy's user interface is far more convenient and JAWS-friendly, and more
than adequate for most people's needs. And, you get ripping, burning, and
format converting, all together, in one easy-to-use interface, for only a
single, one-time, relatively modest registration fee.

Check out:

Any Idea to apply a Dolby C like DECODE correction via software ?

2005-10-24 Thread Olivier Aubry

Hello.

I look for a solution. I have old cassette tapes and some have been made
using Dolby C correction. Sadly, they were not all recorded with the
same deck and I don't have those anymore. Dolby being very picky under
some conditions, especially a correct level BEFORE getting into the
decoder, I consider it could be a good idea to bypass my dolby C
correction on my new tape deck, record into a computer and then apply
correct correction - with the ability to adjust level before correction
(through a process of cut and try I don't despair to obtain a not so
bad, often 'muffled' sound I obtain with my nowadays system) . Shame,
the dolby c correction is somewhat complicated (sweeping frequency
filter(s), level and harmonic dependence, and so on - www.dolby.com
are quite informative about the very clever
system they created).

(Btw: it is because it is complicated It worked well under certain
conditions only. It is also for improving compatibility they later
invented Dolby S (improved mechanism of a more transparent coding)).

I don't know it there is a kind of plugin and/or program that can do
that...

It's not a one-time fee. He reserves the right to charge for updates. Back
when I purchased the program, it was stated that updates would be free,
then about six months later he said he couldn't do that and charged for an
update. Since then there has been no claim to free updates.

VERY ACCESSIBLE! Oh, there is a bit of difficulty if you don't want to burn
an entire folder of tracks, or if you want to burn them to CD in a different
order than they appear in the folder. But there are very simple work-arounds
for those issues. (contact me off-list if you want the details.)

CDRWIN is what I'm used to, I get a little more control over my CD layout.
I've been using it for six years and see no reason not to. I'm not putting

Re: Virtual weather man

2005-10-24 Thread Brent Harding
It would be interesting to see how this stacks up compared to Neospeech or
something. I've heard a time/temp check on a station once, and there's sort
of a pause after they say the "it's" before the temp, and the pause after
"at" and between the parts of the time. I didn't think temp check was even
available to add to these systems, but they would need to improve on the
obvious pausing to make it not sound so robotic and automated so it runs
together like a real announcer would.

Re: Virtual weather man

2005-10-24 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
Well I'm not impressed at all.
It suffer from the good old problem with difon speech.
He speaks like he has afacy, or something. The music in the voice, and the
rythmics are terrible.

But I have to say that the words them selves are pronounced beautifully nice
and clear. It's the intire sentences that are intonized very bad.

Best regards
Brian

Podcaster question

2005-10-24 Thread Larry Higgins
Hi listers,

This is a question for any of you who are downloaders of the KFI Tech
Guy Podcasts with Leo Laport. Leo has finally after weeks of not
uploading many podcasts, suddenly unleashed a torrent of programs,
but when I load my iPodder, it seems that the downloads are getting
nowhere. This has been going on since I think Friday afternoon, and
it is now Monday afternoon, and I am still having no luck actually
getting the files to download. the iPodder indicates that they are in
deed being downloaded, but the most I have gotten from any attempt is
something like 7kb or so. Is anybody else experiencing the same
problem, and if so, have you found any kind of a work around?

Re: m4a files

2005-10-24 Thread julie dawson
For myself and I will state that I'm new at burning cds, I've found nero 5.5
more stable than easy cd and finding where your levels of files are is
easier. In easy cd it is under numbers and it's harder to navigate for me.
Does the easy cd extracter cost a great deal and could it be used
independently of easy cd creater if I wanted to use Nero?>

2005-10-24 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
Nero 5.5 was a Nice tool.
But both 6.x and 7 are nice too.

It's just a matter of learning a new tool as the UI has been changed some
times now.

Best regards

I mean whether you want data burned to the CD, for example, and just in
what order you want what put onto the CD. I'm not arguing with you, it
sounds as though you're arguing with me. I simply prefer CDRWIN, that's
all.

Re: Podcaster question

2005-10-24 Thread Brent Harding
I'm getting the same thing, I have through 184, it's choking on 185 right
now. Ever since he switched to dslextreme for his bandwidth, I bet those DSL
customers are suffering big time because of his show. If I can't get it, bet
they're as good as getting a DOS attack.

Re: Podcaster question

2005-10-24 Thread Larry Higgins
Well Brent,

The way iPodder seems to be set up, it wants to download multiple
files at a time, and with every one else trying to do the same thing,
it is I'm sure like you say, a DOS attack kind of situation in deed.
Guess we'll just have to wait until he gets wind of the situation and
takes care of it. I sure like burning a bunch of those shows to a
cdrw, and playing them on my portable back in my bed room.

BTW, do you know if there are complete versions of his shows to
download anywhere in his audio archives? I seem to be able to find
nothing but hourly segments for downloading. I would like to listen
to shows beginning back in January, but not have to go to the
trouble of merging files for burning. Hope I'm making sense .

NFL Sunday and Monday evening radio broadcasts

2005-10-24 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

One of my local stations normally carries the Westwood 1 broadcasts of
the Sunday evening and Monday evening NFL games.

When the college basketball season begins, the NFL games are pre-empted
by the local college game broadcasts. Can anyone direct me to internet
sites of stations which carries the Westwood 1 feeds for those
broadcasts?

Thanks.

Don,

I would guess that you might have to pay to hear the games online. As a
general rule, I have never been able to hear nfl games for free on the
Internet. That goes for the past two years anyway. Let's hope I'm wrong
about this.

RE: NFL Sunday and Monday evening radio broadcasts

2005-10-24 Thread Wil James
One thing you can try is the library for Winamp. Type in sports as your
search term and see what you get.

Another site you can try is http://www.billsparks.org. Try the sports
stations listed there.

Subject: NFL Sunday and Monday evening radio broadcasts

Hello,

One of my local stations normally carries the Westwood 1 broadcasts of the
Sunday evening and Monday evening NFL games.

When the college basketball season begins, the NFL games are pre-empted by
the local college game broadcasts. Can anyone direct me to internet sites
of stations which carries the Westwood 1 feeds for those broadcasts?

Thanks.

Don Roberts

Try this:
www.sportstalk980.com
I don't think they're supposed to be webcasting those broadcasts, but
currently they are.

I doubt if Westwood 1 would allow any stations to carry their feeds on the
net. I can, however recommend nfl.com. You don't get the Westwood 1
anouncers, but what you get is the radio broadcast of whatever team you're
listening to. I don't know what the cost is now. I paid $29.95, but I
signed up before the season started, but from what I can hear, the audio
quality is good.

I thought Tom Martino was on Westwood 1, and KHOW streams him. He used to
mention that he was on there, but maybe he isn't any more, or Clearchannel
just doesn't care.

Ipodder cleanup

2005-10-24 Thread Jim Ruby
Can anyone suggest a good way to clean up these podcasts?

I would like to just have it get rid of all the items I clear after I listen
to them, but it does not I have to go through each feed, any suggestions?
Also there does not seem to be a way to mark a bunch of shows at once to
have them be deleted.

Thanks.
