Foobar
Is this software accessible? What I mean to say is that Winamp is becoming a size now and even though I registered to get the Pro version may be it's time to contemplate using something else to do the same job. Anyway can it be used with a screen-reader more particularly Window-Eyes? I Need Help With The Paid Version of Real Player
I bought the premium player so I could access extra content. I don't seem to have had luck in all the time I've had the application. I suppose I'm nuts to have struggled for so long, but I am sure someday I'll be able to do more with it, so I keep the subscription up. . If anyone can help me with this I'll really appreciate it. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Configuring Real Player 10.5
Yes, but it has limitations that can only be removed by upgrading to the "premium" player, for $19.95. Restating the Problem
Thanks to Gene Asner, Chris skarstad, Chris Judge, and others who have contributed to getting me this far. But, in the venerable traditions of my academic training, allow me to restate the problem, as I now understand it. I have two sound cards. I would like to direct the speech from my screen reader and the Windows system sounds defined in control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices through one card, and the output of Winamp and Realplayer through the other. The problem is that, so far as I have been able to determine, there is no way to direct either the Windows system sounds or Realplayer through a sound card other than the Windows system default card. If anyone knows of any way around either of these limitations, I would VERY MUCH appreciate hearing about it. Thank you, again. Blessed Be, Dana D. S. Leslie, née C. R. Re: Winamp Question.
Anita, to add media to library, do the following 1. Alt l opens the library. Tab once to remove missing files from library. Down arrow here and you will come to add media to library--press enter. In this section a list of songs will likely appear and it may be the last song you have played or a folder list of recently played songs. Just ignore these. You want to be in the folder where your music is stored. In my case, that folder is called mp3. This section is like a tree view so use your arrow keys until you have highlighted your music folder then when you have found it, do a right arrow to open the folder. At this point, press enter. If you have done everything correctly and if I haven't forgotten any steps--all the selections in your music folder should be added to your library. This does not mean that all the songs are duplicated again and that you are using up gigabytes of disk space. Adding your music files to library simply creats a list of your music files that you can access from your Winamp library. If you have your songs recorded in such a way that they are listed by artist, album, song title and track, you will have a very nice view of all your music from within your library. You will be able to see a list of all the artists, albums or song titles you have and each in a separate list. There is a bunch more info too but you will see that for yourself. You will also be able to cue your songs and I believe make a play list but I for some reason have not done this yet though I keep intending to--I really must as a little experiment. - Original Message - From: "Gary Wood" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: Foobar
The issue of Foobar's accessibilitty raises a good question, and I'd like to add to it. Does Foobar or anything other than Winamp for that matter play .pls files? I have one specific url in mind, but since group policy prohibits the mentioning of specific streams, I won't include it here. At any rate, when I loaded the new Winamp it changed settings without asking and continues to change them back. That doesn't impress me overly much. Until I can figure out what's going on and why, I've swiched back to Winamp 5.09, but I'm collecting other options for future consideration. Is Foobar a streaming .PLS option? Re: Restating the Problem
Hi Dana, Have you tried this? From the control panel, Select sounds and audio devices, and then go to the audio tab. Here your soundcards should be listed. If the one that is spoken when you open this dialogue, is not the one you want for your playback device, then arrow thru the list until you highlight the one you want. Now tab thru the dialogue and make your settings changes as desired. Now tab to the apply button, and press enter, and then the okay button and do same. Now here's what should happen. All audio should come thru the soundcard you selected as the preferred playback device. This includes Jaws. Now to move Jaws to the other card, you will need to edit the jfw.ini file. After doing this, and at least unloading, and re-loading Jaws, should force Jaws to use the specified card, and leave all other audio on the other card. Is this waht you are looking for? Re: using Real Player with secondary sound card
Julie, This is the same issue I have been struggling with for a couple of weeks now. Here's the upshot of what I've figured out, so far: RealPlayer can NOT be set to play through the secondary card. Whichever of your two cards you decide to make the primary, that is the one RealPlayer will have to play through. However, you CAN reassign JAWS (or, more, precisely, eloquence) to the secondary card. Still, the Windows system sounds (if you use them) also cannot be reassigned to the secondary card; they, too, must play through the primary. So, you will have to have your Windows system sounds AND RealPlayer playing through the same card (the primary), and you can reassign JAWS to the other card. If such a configuration will meet your needs, let me know, and I'll let you know how to implement it. Personally, I've been trying to get Realplayer and Winamp to play through one card, and JAWS and the system sounds through the other. There doesn't seem to be any way to accomplish this, as Realplayer and the system sounds both have to play through the default card, whichever one that is. Blessed Be, Dana D. S. Leslie, née C. R. Re: Restating the Problem
RQJ, Of course, I've done that. But that solves only part of the problem. Under the scheme you describe, the Windows system sounds are ALSO moved, along with Realplayer's output, to the newly chosen default sound device. As I stated in my original message, it seems there's no way to assign either the system sounds or realplayer's output to any device other than the default device. And,what I want to do is to have each of them assigned to different devices. It would be very easy to accomplish if only realplayer allowed its output to be reassigned, as Winamp does. But it doesn't! And, Real Networks shows no signs of caring about this deficiency. - Original Message - From: "R Q J" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. How to select a different sound card
- Original Message - From: "R Q J" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. " Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 7:37 AM Subject: Re: Restating the Problem Hi Dana, Have you tried this? My feeling is that you have to be at least a good intermediate Jaws user to use Real Player with any level of competence. There are no actual scripts so it means using the mouse (Jaws) cursor a lot. Re: using Real Player with secondary sound card

" Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 5:10 PM Subject: Re: using Real Player with secondary sound card Julie, This is the same issue I have been struggling with for a couple of weeks now. R. Don, I can change menu options on the 200s with DSS-Player Plus. As much as I know, you can only get it, if you have an Olympus recorder, with which DSS-Player (standard version) is supplied. DSS-Player Plus is only available as an an update (around $15) for DSS-Player standard version. But perhaps, this is different in the U.S. You could ask Olympus. I got my DSS-Player standard with the Olympus DS-2, I updated to Plus and now, I can also change menu settings on the WS-200S. <*** Michael Lang ***> You wrote: > Can you change menu options on this player from the PC and if so where do > you get the software to do this? > ___ > PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... > http://www.pc-audio.org > To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi. Well, there's that word again, "accessible". It might be accessible to me, but not to you. The best way to know if a program is accessible, is to just go ahead and try it out for your own self. You can find older versions of Winamp at http://www.oldversion.com. I still use Winamp 5.08E and it works very well with both JAWS and Window-eyes. Hi Dana I wonder, have you atempted to contact real networks tech support with your question? With so many people having multiple sound cards and with so many configurations, surely there *just* has to be some kind of work around. Re: Restating the Problem
Hi Dana, Well, moving the Windows event sounds probably isn't going to happen, and as far as Real player goes, that's one of the reasons I don't use it. There are just too many accessible audio programs out there that are free, and are much more flexible than Real player. Good luck, R Q J - Original Message - From: "Dana S. Leslie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. " Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 4:40 PM Subject: Re: Restating the Problem RQJ, Of course, I've done that. Re: using Real Player with secondary sound card
to back up what Dana mentions, make the new card the default card. change the jfw.ini as mentioned below: Technical Support Products & Services | Purchase | Downloads | Support News | Distributors | Corporate Info | Contact Us | Search Details of Selected Bulletin Bulletin Type: FAQ Date Posted: 04/04/2003 Product Name: JAWS for Windows Version: 4.51 Category: Synthesizers Question: I have two sound cards on my computer. How do I make sure JAWS uses the one I want? Answer: Many JAWS users who also use music or audio production software want JAWS and Eloquence to speak through one sound card, while using the other for their production work. To do this, you need to edit a file called JFW.ini and install the updated Eloquence Speech driver in the accompanying zip file. Editing the jfw.ini file: 1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to the currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini file in that folder. 2. Press ENTER to open. 3. You should find some lines that read: Synth1Name=eloq Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS Synth1Driver=eloq The number doesnt matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the same for all entries for Eloquence. 4. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device Of course, you need to make sure that the synth number matches the other lines, so that if the Driver line read: Sytn3Driver=eloq Then the port line would read: Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control Panel/Sound & Multimedia/Audio tab It must be one of the entries that can be chosen for Preferred Playback device. 5. Save your changes and exit Notepad. Now you must install the updated driver. As long as JAWS is running and speaking through Eloquence, eloq.jls cannot be simply overwritten when unzipping the file. You will need to switch to NoSpeech or MS SAPI to get the eloq.jls to overwrite properly. 1. Download the file from ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/eloq.zip 2. Unzip the zip file into the root of the active JAWS directory where you made the change to the jfw.ini file. 3. Restart JAWS and it should now be speaking from the sound card you wanted. 4. If not, make sure the entries are correct in the jfw.ini file and that your sound card is indeed installed correctly. Most audio and music production software allows you to select a sound device for it as well, so it can use one sound card while JAWS uses another.
