If anyone finds the wave2text program, please let me know where. I can find
references and descriptions of it, but not the program itself.

OK this might help.
There is an application called Wave2Text and this is from the readme file
that comes in the archive:

WHAT ARE THE KEY APPLICATIONS OF WAVE TO TEXT ?

===

Useful for HIGH SPEED speech to text conversion

real-time dictation less input

no computer conscious recording or dictation

save precious time

You need not be conscious about what computer is going to write.

In the end anyhow you require to format the document for printing.

Let your assistants do the proof reading and conversion.

Useful for converting MP3, WAV or WMA recordings of continuous speech
recorded

using pocket size recording devices or laptops, palmtops etc

Outdoor recordings

Voice Notes

Voice Event Descriptions.

You just have to submit the wave files to your assistants

Do a Googlie for vext007.zip. The zip is approx 24 megs.

Had it installed and it appeared to do a reasonable job of converting
speech to text. It doesn't claim to be perfect but it gets things
acceptably close to the original so that some proof reading is required.

Re: audio to text

2005-07-27 Thread Ann
For converting text to audio, I use a program called Text Aloud. I think the
URL to download a free trial is:

www.nextup.com

I often use Wintrans to translate .brf files in to regular text, then use
Text Aloud to turn the books in to MP3 format.

need help with total recorder

2005-07-27 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, a friend is wanting me to show him the steps for converting on
the fly, and other things with total recorder, but something happened
where he lost all his information, and his registration key, and
they've changed all the dialogs around in total recorder 5.2, so that
now, I don't know where to tell him to go to do things like the tab
control, whereby you could check the second of two radio buttons to
tell total recorder not to use its' driver, unless it is running, and
other things, plus, check boxes such as turn off sounds assigned to
system events, because in 5.2, there's just a tree-view with 5 items,
and it would seem that if he has total recorder installed, that he
could go into the various dialogs and look at his settings, but I don't
know if he even has total recorder installed or what, and I had written
an exhaustive message as to how to do this, but if the tab control
isn't there anymore, then where do we go in version 5.2, or if he
doesn't have 5.2 installed, can he safely go back to version 5.0,
adjust things via the familiar settings he was use to, and then install
5.2 over 5.0 after making the necessary setting changes he wishes, as
he made no effort to back anything up, and I want to help him, but I
don't know where to go from here, and perhaps you've seen Kevin's
messages regarding this on this list. Thanks, but maybe one of you, or
a bunch of people can assist him.

well I have a Panasonic and I have had it for about two years so I am sure
there new ones out now. I like it because it beeps to indicate that you have
completed a function. This one has two folders. The Olympus one at Costco
had six folders and that is too many. A blind person would never know which
folder is which. But two is fine. You will have to get a sighted person to
go over it with you and make some notes as to what the functions are and you
will have to practice with it but you will find it neat to make little
notes. Much better than a cassette recorder. It has a clock and you can just
ignore that part. Good luck finding one.

For broadcasting, did you get a decent microphone with it? Yes, the AKG
dinmics are decent, but a sweet sound can be had with a few choice mics. If
you want a large diaphragm condenser that must be used ona stand,
sound-wise, you can't do much better than the Cad GXL2400. if you want a
small diaphragm condenser, go with the Cad C195. they both sound damn good.

Boy was I ever wrong about the Onyx. It's just a high-end Mackie,
nice and analog, with appropriate bells and whistles to deliver the
audio digitally via Firewire interface if you buy the appropriate
add-on card for your PC for another four hundred bucks. I said thanks
but no thanks to the Firewire interface, but did pick up the 1620, two
buses, very sweet mixer. Only problem is, I think I'm going to break
my back carrying it. The sodding thing weighs twenty-two pound! 10kg
even! I don't think the 1202 weighed but half that! Anyway the
thing's built like a brick smokehouse, has some new features that my
old 1202 didn't, and I'm looking very forward to getting it and
deploying it in some of the field work I'm involved in during the
school year, recording drama and small band and orchestra performances
when asked by my old school up in Hastings and some things locally as
well.

The already mentioned Sony ICD-MX20 and a couple of Olympus recorders,
like the DS-2. These recorders cannot speak their menus, but one can set
these menus via the PC.

more, all in one compact package.

Apple iPod mini: First Generation
Apple iPod mini: Second Generation
Apple iPod: First Generation (mechanical wheel)

Apple iPod: Fourth Generation (click wheel)
Apple iPod: Fourth Generation* (click wheel and color display)

iPod models available in the market.
All storage capacities (GB) are supported.

well the digital recorder I have a blind person can't do everything. You
can't enjoy the clock and if it had more than two folders, you would have to
play a message to see what folder you are on. This is all I know. It is
still worth having it though.

I thought people were just talking about digital versions of hand-held
mini-cassette devices a lot of blind people use for recording notes and
phone numbers for themselves. Not entertainment players. But I remember
learning that some of the .mp3 players incorporate a recording function,
whether for just note taking or more serious use, I forget, one of which is
a model of Creative Labs called Nomad or something. A visit to their site
will reveal it. But I'm pretty sure that one has an LCD screen and isn't
too blind friendly.

well I have a Panasonic and I have had it for about two years so I am
sure there new ones out now. I like it because it beeps to indicate that
you have completed a function. This one has two folders. The Olympus one
at Costco had six folders and that is too many. A blind person would
never know which folder is which. But two is fine. You will have to get
a sighted person to go over it with you and make some notes as to what
the functions are and you will have to practice with it but you will
find it neat to make little notes. Much better than a cassette recorder.
It has a clock and you can just ignore that part. Good luck finding one.

And just to complicate the discussion a little bit, are there machines that
both play and record? My sense is some of these devices play mp3s while
others record. Are there accessible devices out that do both? Thanks for the
feedback. Randy Black

taking, or a journalist use for doing interviews, yes?

thanks.

Hi Anders.

This has happened to me on the last few occassions of upgrading. The best
way of avoiding it I found was to exit all security software (I.E.)
Anti-virus and firewall.

Cheers,

Re: ACB radio Main menu?

2005-07-27 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, it depends on which main menu you want to listen to, but if you're
referring to the one running for 24 hours, then you can go to
http://www.acbradio.org
and press enter on the link that says listen to acb radio main stream.

RE: ACB radio Main menu?

2005-07-27 Thread Mark Matthews
Hi Ibby,

Probably your best bet is to go to the Mainstream page at:
http://www.acbradio.org/pweb/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_p
age&PAGE_id=8&MMN_position=14:14

>From there, click on Schedule, and you'll find Main Menu listed on
Wednesday. Note also, from the Mainstream homepage, you can Click on Replay,
Replay Wednesday, and you'll get the most recent program.

As well as this, there is an archives section, but this is seldome updated
these days, my gues is because of Podcasting. The URL for that anyway is:
http://www.acbradio.org/pweb/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_p
age&PAGE_id=19&MMN_position=30:29

HTH.

I'm a Shure fan. I replaced two of the SM57's that were stolen with
the same thing. Plus I also had an Audiotechnica single-point stereo
microphone, the AT22 I think was the model number, I replaced that as
well.

I *am* looking for a good broadcasting microphone that's a lot more
unidirectional than the Shures. Any thoughts?
