not sure about what you're looking for, but if you are looking for a
MS Sapi 4 version of IBM Via Voice Outloud, please write me in
private.

please understand that this speech synth is exactly the same voice as
JFW's eloquence.
so it won't add anything really useful for JAWS users, but I use it to
convert text files to MP3.

WinAmp and balance

2005-01-05 Thread Laz Mesa
Hello Listers,

I've noticed that when I use WinAmp to play one of my MP3s, that the balance
seems to be primarily in the left channel, meaning that the majority of the
sound is coming from the left channel and very little from the right. I then
have to open up the volume control and put the balance level back to normal.
Needless to say this is a pain in the you know what. Is there a place in
WinAmp to set the balance?

Thanks,
Laz

I do have a scanner, and I have Kurzweil version 9.
However, this manual isn't a booklet, like most are. Instead, it's a large

inward.
I've tried scanning it part by part last night, and it was scanning well.
But then all of a sudden I started getting errors and Kurzweil would close.
I'm planning to try and scan it again soon though.

Andrea! I can sell Via Voice to you but I've never used it. There are
several versions. Naturally Speaking is really what everyone is using. The
most popular is Naturally Speaking Preferred for $199.00. I don't know what
you are saying about switching sound cards. Whatever sound card you have
selected under Sounds and Audio Devices is what the software will use. I
don't know if you can tell Via Voice or Naturally Speaking to use another
sound card from within the programs themselves. I can check on it if you
like.

When in Winamp and focus is on the main window, you can
adjust the balance with the right and left arrow keys.

If you're up for editing the winamp.ini file, look for the
line pan equals and make the number zero, that is the number
zero not the word zero.

Thanks,

adjust the balance with the right and left arrow keys.

If you're up for editing the winamp.ini file, look for the
line pan equals and make the number zero, that is the number
zero not the word zero.

I use a Victor Classic, version 2.2.4, not the Classic Plus, and it plays

I have been evaluating the Victor Classic for the Mid Illinois talking book
project and found that:
(1) it will NOT play 32 bit (mono) files (22.050K mp3 files (using the
2.56 update)
(2) will not play 64K (stereo mp3 files) but does play vbr encoded files.
(3) when files are vbr it does NOT correctly display the time remaining or
the time used on the disk by such files in the "info" (0) report.
Also, one thing which is extremely annoying is that there is no folder
navigation in the case that books might be put in folders on a given mp3
cd
If, also, there are no (according to Victor Classic) playable mp3 files
on the disk, though there is a disk full of 32K mono mp3 files, it says,
"no book on disk," rather than just saying "file type not supported," as
it does when there are some.

Hello,
Recently, I sent an email to Visuaide asking whether low bit rate mp3
files were supported
in the Victor Classic Plus. I got a reply indicating that low bit rate
mp3 files were
supported but not the mp3 point 5 format.

Re: Hooking Up An FM Transmitter

2005-01-05 Thread ptusing

Hi,
Using the Versapoint wireless keyboard which has a true 150 foot range I
am 3 roooms over listening as I type using the C Crane stereo F M
transmitter
I have been more succssfu using this combination of equipment than the
other F M trasmitter sold on ebay. I was sent model 1 instead of 3 hence
very limited transmission.
The good wireless keyboard confilicts less with a regular keyboard plugged
in using jaws than any other wireless I have tried. The C-Crane transmitter
transmits through a steel skyscraper wall extremely well, having tested
every brand on the market which did not give the exellent results of this
combination. One might give the ebay model a big detour.

Andrea! I can sell Via Voice to you but I've never used it. There
are
several versions. Naturally Speaking is really what everyone is using.
The
most popular is Naturally Speaking Preferred for $199.00. I don't know
what
you are saying about switching sound cards. Whatever sound card you have
selected under Sounds and Audio Devices is what the software will use. I
don't know if you can tell Via Voice or Naturally Speaking to use another
sound card from within the programs themselves. I can check on it if you
like.

irritating gaps during CD playback in Winamp

2005-01-05 Thread Joshua Loya
I have a CD (Saviour Machine's Legend part I if anybody cares). I play the
CD in Winamp and it lags just perceptably between each track. This wouldn't
matter in a mix CD, but this particular disc is meant to be listened to from
start to finish, and there are some overlaps in the audio between each track.
I tried it in Reel Player, and it doesn't do this. Except for some very
specific shortcomings, I'd love to make Winamp my main player of choice. Can
anybody help? Also, I have a question somewhat related to this regarding
ripping that I'll be sending shortly.

Thanks,
Joshua

flawless ripping to lossless formats usable by Sound Forge

2005-01-05 Thread Joshua Loya
See my "irritating gaps in CD playback in Winamp" message.. I've tried
ripping with Winamp, and I usually get some sort of stutter at the very end of
a track, which I have gotten on two different computers. To be more to the
point let me tell you what I'm actually trying to do. I want to:

1. Have flawless rips to a lossless format so that I can reliably archive all
my audio CDs.

2. Import those ripped files into Sound Forge (I have 7.0 B currently), or be
able to convert those files to .wav, so that I can easily slice sections of
them for use within Sound Forge and other audio editing programs.

3. Make Winamp playlists with those same files for my own listening pleasure,
as well as for convenience in making CDs of said playlists.

Thanks for any and all help. BTW, I am aware that Winamp, by default, does
not directly rip to losslesss formats, but there are some plugins that allow
this. I've even had difficulty ripping to .wav. I'm also not above using a
couple of different programs, but it would be nice to have some automated file
tagging somewhere along the pathway to digital audio bliss.

connecting to a sound card

2005-01-05 Thread Howard Traxler
Hi Folks Again,
I'm connecting the tape output from my stereo receiver to the line in on my
sound card--in fact, I've tried several sound cards.

When I put the plug in, it effects the volume of the receiver lowering it
noticably. When the computer is turned off, the volume on the stereo is
lower and very distorted.

Has anyone else noticed this problem and what to do about it?
Thanks lots.
Howard

RE: WinAmp and balance

2005-01-05 Thread Hamish Mackenzie
There are also short cut keys to adjust balance.

Control alt and k will put the balance in the centre
Control alt h will go full left
Control alt ; will go full right
Control alt j and l will go half way to their respective sides.

When in Winamp and focus is on the main window, you can adjust the
balance with the right and left arrow keys.

If you're up for editing the winamp.ini file, look for the line pan
equals and make the number zero, that is the number zero not the word
zero.

Hi Jerry. I don't know for sure, but I don't think you can use Naturally
Speaking with Jaws. Can you?

I can check on it if you
like.

Audio Sliders Overview
Slider Bars Audio Sliders in action. In the example shown, the slider
window is "docked" to the task bar above the start menu. The program may be
configured
to auto-scroll and hide any of the available bars; in this case it has been
configured to have only the Artist/Track Title bar remain visible during normal
operation. But as soon as the mouse pointer is dragged over the bar or the
user-configurable hot key combination is pressed, Audio Sliders expands to show
all selected bars. In addition to the audio controls, Audio Sliders may be
configured to display some system information as well. Bars for items such as
Memory and Swap File Usage, Disc Space, CPU Utilization, modem connection
speed, even the current date and time and many others can be added to the
slider
display.

In addition to being able control audio functions such as volume with hot
key combinations, Audio Sliders can also control audio players including
the built-in
CD Player or external players such as WinAmp. Hot key combinations may be
used to start, stop or pause playback, mute the master volume, jump forwards
or backwards from track to track or fast forward or rewind within a track.
Audio Sliders can even start your screensaver with a touch of the keyboard!

Configuration Window
It's simple to add or remove sliders from your display, just open the
configuration window and add or remove selected sliders. You can save five
different
layouts, and switch between them at any time.

On Screen Display
The On Screen Display will pop up when one of the hot keys are pressed. The
OSD will display the volume level, or the artist and track title, depending
on which hot key function was selected. These screens work both with the
built in CD player, or with the external audio player of your choice.
