Audacity help needed.

2004-10-16 Thread Anders Holmberg
HellO!
I just fund and installed the audacity program.
Now it seems that the effects are not availlable.
For example.
I have loaded a file which i would like to try to edit.
I press alt and the menubar comes up.
i go to the effects menu where i can scroll through all of the effects but
no effect seems to be available.
Do i have to register it or something like that?
I also wonder if there are Jaws scripts or atlas files for hal to this
program.
Thanks in advance.
/Anders.

2004-10-16 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hi, gang! Thought I'd throw out this question to see if anyone else is

sound card, thanks to your wonderful help. And the rest of the sounds were
playing fine through my usb sound card. Well, that lasted for a day. Now,
everything comes through my on-board sound card, all the sounds, even when
the usb sound card is on. Is there some weird setting I've missed? Help!

Hi all.
The subject line says it all. I have three mini-plugs on the back of my
computer. The first has my line-in attached to a minidisk. The second is
for my speakers, so I've plugged the microphone into the third socket.
I've
bumped everything up to 100% in the volume control of XP and did the same
to
the volume control within my sound card. However, the sound is very low.
Not an expensive microphone, but I'd have liked better. Perhaps there is
something else which I need to do. I'm using the microphone with
Goldwave.
Any advise would be very welcomed. Thanks.

Best wishes.

RE: everything is on the same sound card, where I don't want them all to be

2004-10-16 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
What version of Windows are you using? I'll assume XP, as you're
using Outlook Express 6 and a USB sound card. If you're not using XP,
someone else will have to give you the steps to take. In XP, go to control
panel, then "sounds and audio devices". Ctrl+tab twice. You should be in the
audio page. Here, you can set the default devices for recording and
playback, and you can select the USB sound card as that default device. If
you've edited the JFW.ini file, Jaws should still run through your on-board
sound.

Looking for accessible program to transfer mp3 to hiMd disk

2004-10-16 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi all,
I have a Soni walkman or whatever you call them that uses hiMd disks these
are high capacity minidisks. The supplied software SonicStage (v2.02) that
I use to transfer mp3s to the walkman is crashing so I am looking for an
accessible program that will substitute for sonicStage.

Any one know of any? I have read that realOne can do this using a plugin
and so can windows media player but at least with series 9 things did not
work out.

Re: New Member Question

2004-10-16 Thread shawn klein
Hi Jen, welcome to the list. I haven't done it, but
you'd need a cord with an eighth inch stereo fonojack
on each end, you can get them at radio shack, the plug
is the same that you find on the ends of headphone
cords. You also need a stereo cassette player of some
kind. Side 1 will play forward at double speed on 1
side, and side 4 I believe, will play backwards
through the opposite stereo channel, when you flip the
tape over you have sides 2 and 3. When you've recorded
2 sides, you can paste 1 stereo chanel in to a new
mono file, and paste the other in to yet another new
mono file, which you will want to reverse with your
favorite sound editor, so it won't play backwards
anymore. I don't know if you can reverse in total
recorder. You can do it in gold wave. I haven't done
this with my PC yet because I lack a patch cord yet,
they're about $5 at radio shack, but I've done it on a
dual tape deck stereo. Same principal.

Re: Copying cassettes to computer

2004-10-16 Thread mimi
Hello, Frank.

If you have Cdex or another sound editor
you are comfortable with, then there is
a good start. Also you must set up your
volume control and select Line-in from
the Windows Volume Control and then
close that and do a test recording. If
your sample has recorded onto your hard
drive, you will hear it. If it did not,
then the Line-In is not yet on. Anyway,
I use Cdex and for cassettes and other
formats I encode from I use the Record
>From Analog Input feature in Cdex 1.5.
Oh, yeah, don't forget your cables
connected in the right place and one
goes into the line-in on the sound
card--and I usually monitor through
headphones so have my headphones
connectd to my sound card so I can
regulate the volume. I cannot do it so
well through the speakers, because then
it ends up being too loud or too soft.

I havve two receivers connected
together. One has a double cassette
deck and the other one has more inputs
on it so I can switch between four
different sources. I thought I would
need a mixer as well, but so far, have
not necessitated a purchase of one.

Hope this makes sense and hope it helps
you.

Re: using radio remotely

2004-10-16 Thread ptusing
Hi,
Many thanks. I really liked the Gyration wireless keyboard.
The friends of mine who bought it found it transmitted 75 feet--not 100
feet Keyboard action is great however..
If any one out there finds something morep owerful or if any one learns of a
more powerful Gyration keyboard, please let me know.
I know you can't have any substantial metal like a door near the path
ofthe transmission with the Gyration.
In fact the metal door was 15 degrees and 4 feet to the right if one drew a
strai ght line between the couch where I sat and the antenna sending the
sound to the Gyration keyboard.
I agree. It isthe best I have seen thus far.
If there are improvements with Gyration's range, please let me know.

Re: Looking for accessible program to transfer mp3 to hiMd disk

2004-10-16 Thread Gary G. Schindler

Which High end minidisc recorder do you have. they just became available from Sony USA
in the last couple of weeks. they are
supposed to transfer at the speed of 100 X. are we talking about the 45 hour capacity
machinesI would think that a newer version of Sonic Stage would have had to been
supplied instead of 2.0. ?

Any one know of any? I have read that realOne can do this using a plugin
and so can windows media player but at least with series 9 things did not
work out.

re crative mp3 player

2004-10-16 Thread brian parker
Hi list, I need a good samaritan. I have just bought a creative mp3 player,
but so far, have failed to transfer any files in to it. I have put in the
software, and my computer recognises it. the copy files instructions are
written for a sighted person, and are mouse oriented using drag and drop. I
tried first to do the transfer through the clipboard, and it didn't work. i
received an error message, saying the the player couldn't find the
specified file, although it named the file concerned. it asked that i
checked the path and name of the file. I then tried to use the drag and
drop method, which can be done with wineyes, which is my screen reader. i
got the same result. i then made a drag and drop transfer between two of my
other drives, just to make sure that i had the method correct. i did four
transfers, and they worked perfectly. If anyone out there is familiar with
this particular player, i would be glad of his help. another thing. when
the player is removed from the u s b port, one is instructed not to put it
back in to the case holding the battery with the player switched on.
unfortunately, while it is plugged in to the computer, there seems to be no
way of turning it off, either by closing the drive which it has now become,
or by pressing the off button on the player. so, i need to no whether just
unplugging it, in fact puts it in to the off mode. Brian.

Re: Copying cassettes to computer

2004-10-16 Thread mimi
Hello, Frank.

If you have Cdex or another sound editor
you are comfortable with, then there is
a good start. Also you must set up your
volume control and select Line-in from
the Windows Volume Control and then
close that and do a test recording. If
your sample has recorded onto your hard
drive, you will hear it. If it did not,
then the Line-In is not yet on. Anyway,
I use Cdex and for cassettes and other
formats I encode from I use the Record
>From Analog Input feature in Cdex 1.5.
Oh, yeah, don't forget your cables
connected in the right place and one
goes into the line-in on the sound
card--and I usually monitor through
headphones so have my headphones
connectd to my sound card so I can
regulate the volume. I cannot do it so
well through the speakers, because then
it ends up being too loud or too soft.

I havve two receivers connected
together. One has a double cassette
deck and the other one has more inputs
on it so I can switch between four
different sources. I thought I would
need a mixer as well, but so far, have
not necessitated a purchase of one.

Hope this makes sense and hope it helps
you.

Oh, you don't have satellite radio?
She's on XM Channel 165.

Mp3DirectCut was: recording radio broadcasts.

2004-10-16 Thread Bobcat
I just discovered that Mp3DirectCut can record direct to mp3 with the Lame
mp3 encoder. The program has a command line option to start recording
immediately so one can setup a shortcut with a hotkey to start recording
from anywhere within Windows. You could also use your favorite scheduling
program to record radio shows. This program is free. I haven't had any
trouble with spyware from Mp3DirectCut. Check it out at:
http://www.mpesch3.de/

It works well with WindowEyes. There are lots of direct access keys. The
record meters are in text form.

A few things take a bit of getting used to. Fore example: If you want to
place a marker during playback. You press b for set begin then n for set
end then c for cut while the file is paused. If the begin and end marks are
in the same place, they are treated is a mark instead of cutting the
selected area.

I wish other audio editors were as easy to use. I'm just about to try the
latest version which has a few new features.

Re: Copying cassettes to computer

2004-10-16 Thread mimi
Hello, Frank.

If you have Cdex or another sound editor
you are comfortable with, then there is
a good start. Also you must set up your
volume control and select Line-in from
the Windows Volume Control and then
close that and do a test recording. If
your sample has recorded onto your hard
drive, you will hear it. If it did not,
then the Line-In is not yet on. Anyway,
I use Cdex and for cassettes and other
formats I encode from I use the Record
>From Analog Input feature in Cdex 1.5.
Oh, yeah, don't forget your cables
connected in the right place and one
goes into the line-in on the sound
card--and I usually monitor through
headphones so have my headphones
connectd to my sound card so I can
regulate the volume. I cannot do it so
well through the speakers, because then
it ends up being too loud or too soft.

I havve two receivers connected
together. One has a double cassette
deck and the other one has more inputs
on it so I can switch between four
different sources. I thought I would
need a mixer as well, but so far, have
not necessitated a purchase of one.

Hope this makes sense and hope it helps
you.

It's a couple of people I know. I have
been emailing with them for some time
and they used to send me mp3's as
