Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [Meetup Bay Area] First OPNFV Meetup in Bay Area
Hi Bob, That's odd. This is the first I'm hearing of any issue with the tool. I have a meet up account already and it only took one click for me to register. Perhaps set up a meetup account first (https://www.meetup.com/), refresh bowsers and try again. If we can't get the tool working for you we can of course take a manual RSVP. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Track Chairs Needed For 2017 OPNFV Summit
OPNFV Technical Community, Preparations for the 2017 OPNFV Summit (June 12-15, Beijing, China) are now in full swing! *As a reminder, the Call for Proposals (CFP) is now open and submissions are due March 27*. As you know, the OPNFV Summit is where the industry convenes to advance open source NFV. One of our primary goals is to offer the best possible content to help our attendees accomplish their goals within the open source networking ecosystem. As with the last Summit, we will again offer various tracks targeted to different topics and attendees. But we are taking a slightly different approach toward programming this year. Rather than having one large Summit Programming Committee program the entirety of the breakout content, this year the committee will be made up of a set of Track Chairs who focus on a particular track. There will be 2-3 Track Chairs for each of the 6 Summit tracks who will program each track alongside the OPNFV staff. *We are now asking for volunteers from the OPNFV to apply to become track chairs by filling in this short questionnaire <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DRG6S6T> by March 13*. Please email eve...@opnfv.org with any questions. *What does a Track Chair Do?* - Track chairs are responsible for finalizing the selection of sessions in their respective tracks, which includes: - Review, rank, and comment on the the submissions in your particular track - Suggest if a session might be a better fit for another track - Identify any major content gaps in your track, potentially soliciting additional topics and speakers directly - Make judgement calls such as combining sessions on similar topics into a panel or providing feedback to speakers about how to differentiate/focus their sessions - Ensure a diverse selection of speakers and companies represented in your track. Note: All panels must have at least one female panelist - Work with speakers leading up to the event and on-site to ensure high-quality content - Attend all the sessions in your track on-site, introduce speakers, help keep time, and facilitate Q&A if needed *Bear in Mind:* - Look to integrate service providers where possible; speakers, case studies, real world use cases, etc. - Look to avoid simple sales pitches around proprietary solutions - You may want to combine sessions into panels or other formats, especially if there are multiple submissions about the same topic. However, we request that you try to limit the number of panels to no more than one per track. - Feel free to reach out to the speakers if you have questions or want them to adjust their abstract or focus. *Requirements:* - Putting on your “OPNFV Hat” vs that of your company - Commitment to being neutral and fair when judging submissions - A total of 8-10 hours commitment, attending Track Chair calls, reviewing, scoring, and finalizing sessions with your fellow Track Chairs - Take the short Linux Foundation Inclusive Speaker Orientation course <https://training.linuxfoundation.org/linux-courses/open-source-compliance-courses/inclusive-speaker-orientation> *2017 OPNFV Summit Tracks:* - NFV Applications and Orchestration - Testing, Infrastructure, and DevOps - NFV Strategy and End User Stories - NFV Platform Requirements - Community and Upstream - Futures and Research - Get the track descriptions here <http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/opnfv-summit/program/cfp-details> (Under the “Before you Submit” tab) *Timeline:* - CFP Opened: Thursday, February 16 - Track Chair Submissions Due: March 13 - Track Chairs Selected: March 17 - Track Chairs CFP Tool Training: March 22 (9:00 AM PST) (Optional) - CFP Closes: March 27 - Track Chairs Kickoff Call: March 28 - Track Chairs Judging Period: March 28 - April 11 - Summit Schedule Finalization Call: April 18 - Speakers Notified: April 20 - Summit Schedule Announced: Week of April 24 - Event Dates: June 12-15, 2017 Please email eve...@opnfv.org with any questions. Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] REMINDER: One Week Left to Submit to OPNFV Summit CFP
Hello Jiang, Thanks for your question. Please send any future questions to eve...@opnfv.org. The Design Summit takes place June 12-13 and is where the OPNFV technical community will convene to continue working on the E-Release and have plenary sessions and project breakouts. It is very focused on the OPNFV platform. The Summit Conference takes place Jun 14-15 and is for the wider NFV ecosystem, featuring keynotes, breakout sessions, a technology showcase, networking opportunities, etc. This is where the the breakouts will be structured into the six tracks. Panels consist of 4 or more speakers in a single session. When in doubt, we recommend you submit for the Summit conference as a breakout session. From there, our track chairs will be able to make further recommendations as needed. Hi Bryan, Thanks for flagging your concerns. The "extra" CFP page now directs to the latest CFP info/submission link. There's a lot of history around the move to a new CFP tool for OPNFV, but essentially, this new tool: - Gives the track chairs/program committee more flexibility for viewing/scoring sessions by track, track assignments, and scheduling from within the tool - Flexibility to use the CFP for different types of submissions with different fields (e.g. PoC Submissions) With all the CFP tools, it's always a balance of satisfying the submitters and reviewers and overall we think this tool does well. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Fwd: OPNFV VCO Demo 2.0
OPNFV Technical Community: FYI, here's some information on the evolution of the Virtual Central Office Demo. We'll be discussing it as well on next week's TSC call. -- Forwarded message ------ From: Brandon Wick Date: Fri, Aug 11, 2017 at 5:14 PM Subject: OPNFV VCO Demo 2.0 To: opnfv-...@lists.opnfv.org OPNFV TSC: The process has now begun to start planning out the next version of the OPNFV Virtual Central Office Demo (VCO Demo 2.0). A VCO Demo 2.0 wiki page <https://wiki.opnfv.org/display/OSDD/OPNFV+VCO+Demo+2.0> has been created where the community can begin collaboration and volunteer HW, SW, VNFs, lab space, and overall participation. This conversation is happening on the OPNFV Marketing Committee but input and participation from the TSC is welcome in order to help ensure alignment with the OPNFV projects and overall technical direction for OPNFV. Community members are asked to indicate their (and their company's) interest in participation no later than *September 29, 2017*. This topic will be presented on an upcoming TSC call. In the meantime, please send any questions to bw...@linuxfoundation.org. Hi Alec, Thanks for your feedback. The downloads page for Euphrates is being modified to include links to testing tools, documentation, dashboards, docker, and XCI. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Seeking demo ideas for LFN booth at ONS
OPNFV Tech Community: We wanted to reach out and let you know that there will be space for a few demos in the LF Networking (LFN) Booth at ONS. We've received a couple good ideas already and are looking for a few more to consider. Our goal is to show compelling uses of LFN networking project technology to solve real world industry challenges. Demos that show cross-project elements (e.g. between ODL, ONAP, OPNFV, FD,io), that map to a specific industry use case, and that are endorsed by a service provider are preferred. That said, we have some room for demos that highlight the innovative work and value-add from projects that don't necessarily meet these criteria. Please submit your demo ideas by *January 26 *by sending an email to bw...@linuxfoundation.org. LFN staff leadership will then review the options make the final determination which demos can be accommodated. Idea submitters will be notified by *February 2*. In your email describing your demo idea and requirements, please indicate who the demo manager(s) will be. A demo manager is required as part of each demo proposal and will be responsible for the following: - Define the scope and storyline of the demo - Respond promptly to requests for additional information - Meet all requested deadlines - Setup and test the demo pre-show - Staff the demo during the expo hours (along with some other designated team members to help share the load) - Be willing to participate in media activities, e.g. video - Take down the demo post event ONS sponsors are of course welcome to host demos in their booths on the show floor. Check with your sponsorship managers to explore these opportunities. Please let me know if you have any questions and we look forward to hearing your ideas. Re: [opnfv-tech-discuss] [ONSEurope] Soliciting OPNFV submission ideas
Thanks Tim. I learned that the ONS Europe programming committee will not be allocating a set amount of submissions per project, and that all selections will be totally merit-based. They have added a new page called "How We Pick Submissions" in the ONS CFP page you shared to give more visibility and insight into the process and criteria: https://events. linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/program/cfp/. Please review this page and take these tips into consideration when planning your submissions. A list of ONS Europe programming committee members will be added here soon. In order to increase visibility of all OPNFV proposals/demos under consideration, I also created an *ONS Europe Submissions/Demos Planning Page* on the OPNFV Wiki here: https://wiki.opnfv.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=24576260. If you have ideas around an OPNFV-focused speaking proposal or demo, please add your thoughts here as soon as you're able. This will help us ensure that we are submitting strong proposals in all of our key areas and help the LFN staff coordinate submissions where needed. Please send any questions to p...@opnfv.org. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Seeking LFN Booth Demo Ideas for ONS Europe: OPNFV
Hello OPNFV Community: As mentioned on the last week's TSC call, we're now looking for demo submission ideas from each of the LFN projects and have set up this wiki page <https://wiki.opnfv.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=24576260> to help track and coordinate OPNFV speaking and demo submissions. Those in attendance at OSN North America in Los Angeles last March will recall that we hosted an *LF Networking Booth* that showcased 8 compelling, community-driven demos from the LFN technical projects. See this blog post <https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/rubber-meet-road-x-project-collaboration-demos-ons/> for a description of the ONS North America booth demos, their focus areas, and how they fit together. We wanted to reach out now to each of the LFN project communities to let you know that there will be space for ~8 networking demos inside the LFN booth again at ONS Europe <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/> (Sept 25-27, Amsterdam) and we are seeking demo ideas again using the same process as last time. Our goal again is to show compelling uses of LFN networking project technology to solve real world industry challenges. Demos that show cross-project elements (e.g. between LFN projects and others), that map to a specific industry use case, and that are endorsed by a service provider are preferred. That said, we have some room for demos that highlight the good work and value-add from projects that don't necessarily meet these criteria. At least one demo slot will be made available for each LFN project that submits a quality idea. Demos stations will again have storage space, a counter, backdrop, monitor, power, and Wi-Fi internet provided. A demo station mock up is now under development and will be shared back with interested parties. There is no cost to host a demo in the LFN booth although additional power, internet, spaces, etc. may incur a cost. Here are the key dates to keep in mind: - June 12: Demo idea solicitation email sent to community lists - July 9: Demo ideas submissions due - July 20: Demos ideas reviewed, chosen, and notifications sent To submit your demo idea for consideration, please collect and provide the following information: - Demo title (10 words max) - Brief demo description (200 words max) - List of demo manager(s) with contact information - List of open source projects involved - List of companies involved - Any extra requirements or special considerations Demo manager responsibilities include: - Creating the demo concept and actual demo to be shown - Responding promptly to requests for information - Meeting all demo prep deadlines - Setting up and testing the demo pre-show and taking down post-show - Staffing the demo during ONS expo hours (along with other designated team members to help share the load) - Being willing to participate in media activities, e.g. photos, videos ONS sponsor companies are of course welcome to host demos in their booths on the show floor as well. Please heck with your ONS Europe sponsorship managers to explore these opportunities. *Submit your demo ideas by July 9 by sending an email to bw...@linuxfoundation.org *. LFN staff leadership (Heather, Phil, Arpit) will then review the submissions, get back to submitters with questions, suggestions, and recommend a final demo roster by July 20th. Send any questions you may have to bw...@linuxfoundation.org. We look forward to seeing your demo ideas. [opnfv-tech-discuss] ONS Reminder: LFN Unconference, Day Passes, and Last Chance for Discounts
OPNFV Community, This is a reminder that standard pricing for the Open Networking Summit (ONS) Europe <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/> ends this Saturday, September 15th, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. After this, the late registration period starts and the ticket prices will increase by $605. LFN member companies <https://www.lfnetworking.org/members/> can use code LFMEM20 to get 20% off the cost of your registration. In case you weren’t aware, we’ve added an LFN Unconference Track <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/features-and-add-ons/lfn-unconference-track/> in a room open throughout the show for topic discussions, small-team breakouts etc. We call this an "Unconference" because it's less about pre-conceived and pre-arranged formal presentations and instead allows for discussion topics of interest to "spring up" either closer to the event or at the event itself. See the Unfconfernce wiki <https://wiki.lfnetworking.org/display/LN/Open+Networking+Summit+Europe+2018+-+Unconference+Topic+Proposals> for more information and the list of topics. For those not able to attend the full conference, Day Passes are available for $500 ($400 to LFN Members after applying the discount). Check the latest ONS schedule <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/program/schedule/> here and see which are the “can’t miss topics and sessions” for you. Register here <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2018/attend/register/> today, and don't forget to book your hotel room at the same time. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Seeking LFN Booth Demo Ideas for ONS North America
LFN Community: Those in attendance at OSN North America in Los Angeles last March and ONS Europe in Amsterdam last September will recall that we hosted an *LF Networking Booth* that showcased 8-10 compelling, community-driven demos from the LFN technical projects. See this blog post <https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/rubber-meet-road-x-project-collaboration-demos-ons/> for a description of the ONS North America booth demos, and this blog post <https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/2018/08/building-in-the-open-ons-europe-demos-highlight-networking-industry-collaboration/> for the ONS Europe demos. We wanted to reach out now to each of the LFN project communities to let you know that there will be space for 8-10 networking demos inside the LFN booth again at ONS North America (San Jose, April 4-6) and we are seeking demo ideas using the same process. Our goal is to show compelling uses of LFN networking project technology to solve real world industry challenges. Demos that show cross-project elements (e.g. between LFN projects and other networking projects), that map to a specific industry use case, or are endorsed by a service provider are preferred. That said, we have some room for demos that highlight the good work and value-add from projects that don't necessarily meet these criteria. At least one demo slot will be made available for each LFN project (FD.io, ONAP, ODL, OPNFV, PNDA, SNAS, Tungsten Fabric) that submits a quality idea. Demos stations will again have storage space, a counter, backdrop, monitor, power, and Wi-Fi internet provided. There is no cost to host a demo in the LFN booth although additional power, internet, space, etc. may incur a cost. Here are the key dates to keep in mind: - Jan 16: Demo idea solicitation email sent to community lists - Feb 13: Demo ideas submissions due - Feb 27: Demos ideas reviewed, chosen, and notifications sent - April 4-6: Demos shown To submit your demo idea for consideration, please collect and provide the following information: - Demo title (10 words max) - Brief demo description (200 words max) - List of demo manager(s) with contact information - List of open source projects involved - List of companies involved - Any extra requirements or special considerations Demo manager responsibilities include: - Creating the demo concept and actual demo to be shown - Responding promptly to requests for information - Meeting all demo preparation deadlines - Setting up and testing the demo pre-show and taking down post-show - Staffing the demo during ONS expo hours (along with other designated team members to help share the load) - Being willing to participate in media activities, e.g. photos, videos ONS sponsor companies are of course welcome to host demos in their booths on the show floor as well. Please check with your ONS sponsorship manager to explore these opportunities. *Submit your demo ideas by February 13 by sending an email to bw...@linuxfoundation.org *. LFN staff leadership (Heather, Phil, Arpit) will then review the submissions, get back to submitters with questions, suggestions, and recommend a final demo roster by Feb 27th. [opnfv-tech-discuss] RESPONSE NEEDED: LFN Staff Survey of the Community
LFN Community, In order to get a better sense for the community and how we could do our jobs better, we've pulled together a short LFN Staff Survey of the Community. We believe that the TSCs for each Project are in the best position to determine which lists they feel are most appropriate for distribution; so if there are additional lists which you believe should be included for your Project, please let us know. The anonymous survey is 21 questions and should take about 5-10 minutes to complete. *Please complete the survey by July 10th*. Thank you for helping us improve LFN. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Seeking LFN Booth Demo Ideas for ONS Europe
LFN Community: We hope that you are planning to attend ONS Europe, September 23-25, in Antwerp, Belgium <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2019/>. Those in attendance at the last three ONS events will recall that we hosted an *LF Networking Booth* that showcased 8-10 compelling, community-driven demos from the LFN technical projects. See this blog post <https://www.linuxfoundation.org/blog/2019/03/community-demos-at-ons-to-highlight-lfn-project-harmonization-and-more/> from ONS North America last April to learn more about the opportunity. We wanted to reach out now to each of the LFN project communities to let you know that there will be space for 8-10 networking demos inside the LFN booth again at ONS Europe and we are seeking demo ideas using the same process. There is no cost to host a standard demo in the LFN booth although additional power, internet, space, etc. may incur a cost. Here are the key dates to keep in mind: - July 10: Demo idea solicitation email sent to community lists - *July 31: Demo ideas submissions due* - August 14: Demos ideas reviewed, chosen, and notifications sent - September 23-25: Demos shown at ONS To submit your demo idea for consideration, please collect and provide the following information: - Demo title (10 words max) - Brief demo description (200 words max) - List of demo manager(s) with contact information - List of open source projects involved - List of companies involved - Any extra requirements or special considerations Demo manager responsibilities include: - Creating the demo concept and actual demo to be shown - Responding promptly to requests for information - Meeting all demo preparation deadlines - Setting up and testing the demo pre-show and taking down post-show - Staffing the demo during ONS expo hours (along with other designated team members to help share the load) - Being willing to participate in media activities, e.g. photos, videos ONS sponsor companies are of course welcome to host demos in their booths on the show floor as well. Please check with your ONS sponsorship manager to explore these opportunities. *Submit your demo ideas by July 31st by sending an email to bw...@linuxfoundation.org *. LFN staff leadership (Heather, Arpit) will then review the submissions, get back to submitters with questions/suggestions if needed, and recommend a final demo roster by August 14th. Send any questions you may have to bw...@linuxfoundation.org. We look forward to seeing your demo ideas. [opnfv-tech-discuss] Now Open: LFN Unconference Track at ONS Europe
LFN Technical Communities, For those planning to attend ONS Europe <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2019/>, we wanted to let you you that once again LF Networking will be hosting an LFN Unconference Track throughout the event. This is a meeting space for projects in the LF Networking initiative for project work, topic discussions, and small-team breakouts. We call this an “unconference” because it’s less about pre-arranged formal presentations, and instead allows for discussions to “spring up” before the event or at the event itself. Unconference sessions should be focused on interaction and collaboration between attendees. If you work in any of the LF Networking project communities, we welcome you to add your topics/ideas to the unconference wiki and use this meeting space for teamwork throughout the event. *Please add your initial unconference meeting ideas by Friday. August 16th*. A schedule will be published the following week with some slots held for on-site programming. Learn more on the ONS website here <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/open-networking-summit-europe-2019/features-add-ons/lfn-unconference-track/> and add your topics to the LFN Unconference wiki page here <https://wiki.lfnetworking.org/display/LN/2019+ONS+EU+September+Unconference+Topic+Proposals> . [opnfv-tech-discuss] Seeking LF Networking & LF Edge Booth Demo Ideas for ONES
LFN Community: We hope that you are planning to attend the Open Networking & Edge Summit North America <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-networking-edge-summit-north-america/>, April 20-21, in Los Angeles, California. Those in attendance at the last four ONS events will recall that we hosted an LF Networking Booth that showcased many community-driven demos from the LFN technical project communities. Our goal is to showcase compelling uses of LFN Networking <https://www.lfnetworking.org/> & LF Edge <https://www.lfedge.org/> project technology to solve real world industry challenges. See this blog post <https://www.lfnetworking.org/uncategorized/2019/09/09/twelve-community-driven-demos-highlight-innovation-and-integration-across-the-networking-stack/> from ONS Europe last fall to get a sense for what types of demos have been shown in the LF Networking Booth. In 2020, the Open Networking & Edge Summit is expanding to comprehensively cover Edge Computing, Edge Cloud, and IoT. Accordingly, the community demo zone is expanding to consider demo proposals from the LF Edge project community as well. Another change for this year is that demo managers and co-presenters need to be from LF Networking or LF Edge member companies. Submissions that include vendor companies also require that the vendors be sponsors of the Open Networking & Edge Summit event. Note: There are many event sponsorship options available at all price levels including a sponsorship option for the LFN/LFE Pavilion demos specifically. Please see the event prospectus <https://events.linuxfoundation.org/sponsor-ones-na20> to review the options and let me know if you have any questions. *The call for demo ideas for the Open Networking & Edge Summit North America is now open. * Demos to be shown in the LFN/LFE booth will be chosen by LFN & LF Edge Project leadership using the following criteria: - Demos must include technology from at least one of the LF Networking or LF Edge projects (e.g. ONAP, OPNFV, Akraino, EdgeX Foundry) - Special consideration will be given to submissions that: - Showcase cross-project collaboration and integration - Map to a specific industry use case - Include participation and endorsement from a service provider organization - Show project diversity (e.g. projects not covered in other submissions) The final number of demo stations is still TBD. Demos stations will again have a backdrop, signage, counter/table, chair(s) monitor, power, and Wi-Fi internet. Note: Apart from the event sponsorship requirement, there is no cost to host a standard demo in the LFN booth although additional power, internet, space, etc. may incur a cost. Here are the key dates to keep in mind: - Feb 5: Demo idea solicitation email sent to community lists - *Feb 26: Demo ideas submissions due* - March 4: Demos ideas reviewed, chosen, and notifications sent - April 21-22: Demos shown at ONES North America Demo manager responsibilities include: - Creating the demo concept and actual demo to be shown - Responding promptly to requests for information - Meeting all demo preparation deadlines - Setting up and testing the demo pre-show and taking down post-show - Staffing the demo during ONS expo hours (along with other designated team members to help share the load) - Being willing to participate in media activities, e.g. photos, videos To submit your demo idea for consideration, please collect and provide the following information: - Demo title (10 words max) - Brief demo description (200 words max) - List of demo manager(s) with contact information - List of open source projects involved - List of companies involved - Any extra requirements or special considerations Submit your demo ideas by *Feb 26th* by filling in the Google Form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwjEfCcWUKMfiK404Uu51Zl70-8lqcRFCKKQ5vW3eeLOGAfw/viewform. [opnfv-tech-discuss] REMINDER: Seeking LF Networking & LF Edge Booth Demo Ideas for ONES
[opnfv-tech-discuss] New ONES NA Dates Confirmed for the Fall
LFN Communities: We are pleased to announce that the new dates for Open Networking & Edge Summit North America 2020 are September 28 & 29. The event will continue to be held at the JW Marriott LA Live in Los Angeles, CA. We are hopeful that the measures being taken around the globe to slow the Coronavirus will allow us to continue with hosting this event in person in September as planned. If however, that is determined to not be a safe or viable option, we will host the event virtually on the same dates. This decision will be made by August 1, 2020. Until then, we are proceeding with plans for the face-to-face event, and will be announcing the schedule next week. These dates were the only option we were able to find and unfortunately overlap the scheduled dates for Open Networking Summit Europe 2020. Due to this, we are postponing ONES Europe, and will determine new dates in Q4 shortly. We thank you for your patience and understanding while we secured new dates for this conference. Our sincere sympathies are with all those being affected by the Covid-19 outbreak and we wish for good health and safety for all. Thank you again for your support and we hope to see you in Los Angeles. Please let us know if you have any questions.
