Trouble with that is that LL already have that symbol used for Search and also
for Zoom on the World Map, and it isn't really a 'zoom' feature.

Hi! i found a cool idea on a camera. It had a single large tree on one
end of the focus setting and 4 small trees on the other end. i know the
draw distance slider isn't a focus button, but how about a single house
pic on one end and a small cluster of houses on the other? Or maybe a
group of skyscrapers? Maybe that's too much for the number of pixels
available? The trees thing on the camera button looks pretty good. If
you wanna see it, look up online doc for a Canon SX10. Thx!

Re: [opensource-dev] Review viewer -- draw distance slider

2011-06-12 Thread Trilo Byte
Agreed regarding the magnifying glass icon - it's used both in SL and in some
browsers as an icon representing Search.

The problem with using a 1 tree/many trees approach is that a) that's already
used to denote zoom, not viewing distance, and b) that type of display works
best when it's on either side of the control in question (either side of the
zoom rocker on a digital camera, for example.

I like the binoculars icon idea, but agree that it could cause confusion since
other applications commonly use the symbol for search.

An eye icon has merit, since it controls how much the user sees. Given the
16x16 pixel constraint, I think the rays/lines coming off the eye would be less
clear, and may cause some possible confusion with the speaker/volume icon
(which is exactly what you want to avoid). Speaker icon for what you hear, eye
for what you see, seems pretty straightforward, and a tooltip when moused
over/used would further eliminate confusion.

As for the notice to pop up when the setting gets raised too high, how about
using "caution" in place of "warning". - subtle change in language makes the
message read more like helpful guidance.

Re: [opensource-dev] Review viewer -- draw distance slider

2011-06-12 Thread Daniel
What would directly tell people what the slider does is a ground outline
on the terrain showing how far away items will be shown (similar to
property lines ie shown directly on the ground). Along with things
starting to appear or vanish as they play with the slider, there should
be no confusion about the function.

Along with that, provide a tooltip explaining the more area you see, the
slower things will run. If you want to cover the case of people flying
or in a skybox, do it as a temporary horizontal ~50% opaque red circle
centered on the avatar, which persists for several seconds after moving
the slider.

[opensource-dev] Review Request: STORM-787 Mute Gestures Button

Review request for Viewer.

Summary
---

Added a checkbox control in Preferences->Sound and Media (see attached image in
jira) to enable/disable sounds coming from gestures.

There is a long writeup in the jira for reasons to have this.

This control is linked to 1) the master volume control and 2) the sound effects
control. If either of these is disabled (speaker has a red line through it)
the checkbox is disabled.

This addresses bug STORM-787.

[opensource-dev] ER-480 fix brought a showstopper

2011-06-12 Thread Marine Kelley
Hi all,

Has anybody noticed this already ? Basically the current viewer in v-d
has a malformed notifications.xml file, breaking it completely as soon
as you raise the camera controls floater.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26000

If it hits viewer-release, this will become a showstopper right away.
Suggest immediate fixin'.

I think three small pine trees could be rendered in a 16x16 grid.
