Ctrl-Shift-G worked for me (on a Mac)... don't know if that's platform
specific, but it is the same as in the 2.5.2 release.

[opensource-dev] viewer-autobuild2010 Ctrl-I bug

2011-03-20 Thread Jonathan Welch
Using autobuild I just built an up to date viewer of
viewer-autobuild2010 and found that Ctrl-I will open the inventory
sidepanel but will no longer close it. Another person verified this
in a viewer build from Merov's repo.

If this is not an intentional change would someone please file a jira
(my internet is going to be very limited for a while).

If this is an intentional change I would like to see it changed back.

A Linden who knows what's what needs to weigh in on this.

[opensource-dev] STORM-9 - sharing location and status message to Twitter

2011-03-20 Thread Opensource Obscure
I just commented STORM-9, that is
"As a User, I want to share my location and a custom status with friends
on Twitter so they can follow what I’m up to in Second Life"

Here are some ideas about how this feature could work, with regard
to Twitter only.

Authentication
-user should be able to insert her Twitter account details somewhere
-this can be done in Preferences, or maybe integrated with the authentication
process currently used in Web Profiles to claim a Twitter account

Metadata
-user location should automatically be retrieved when this feature is used
-a shortened version of the SLURL should be generated and added
to the status message
-a Twitter hashtag like #secondlife may be automatically added
to the status message but this should be optional

Use
-this feature is available via menu, where a new item has to be added
-this feature may be also be available via a new UI button in the bottom bar,
which is disabled until user associates with a Twitter account
-a new floater has to be created, which shows to the user which
Twitter account is being used
-a text field is available where to write the custom status message
-the text field is pre-filled with the shortened SLURL and automatic
hashtag (if used). User should be able to remove this text from her message
-a visual indicator of how many characters are available should be present,
taking into account how many characters are used by SLURL and
automatic hashtag (if used)
-user writes her custom status message and clicks a “Send” or “Tweet
this!” button
to publish it

Note that many Second Life are already familiar with the “Email Snapshot”
feature, which is similar but more complex than what proposed here:
it’s a 2-steps process, and the last floater has 3 text fields to be
filled instead than one.
So this new feature, as proposed here, would be consistent with
the existing ones, with no complexity added.

I don’t use Facebook but I suppose this model could be extended to
different services. I propose to keep this discussion limited to Twitter
and then adapt/apply the results elsewhere.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This is not something that belongs in
the viewer. It could be implemented securely as user generated content using an
external website and a HUD. There's no reason for Linden Lab to be in the loop
at all.

Re: [opensource-dev] STORM-9 - sharing location and status message to Twitter

2011-03-20 Thread Erin Mallory

While I'm no longer totally opposed to adding in twitter support into the
client, there are allot of reasons I cannot at all support making this anything
of a priority other then the absolute lowest.
First, allot of users already feel that Second Life is already too tied to
twitter and Facebook and similar as it is when we have widgets in our profile
we cannot remove without shutting down our profiles and even THEN can be
remotely activated. with Twitter being another potential link between SL and
RL that many don't want, and with Twitter being openly shared with the US
government and archived, I think allot of users would be really upset if we
added this without allot more community feedback. Like a blog post about it.
Second. there are already huds that can do what this storm issue proposes. If
we are going to be adding in features that huds already do, how about some that
have been requested much longer and by allot more people? Such as animation
overrides, various build tools, etc.?
Third, as it is we already get slammed again and again for worrying about new
toys when there are major bugs and design flaws that need fixed.
Fourth, depending on the implementation, if the system is or could be set to
twitter automatically, I could really see someone really abusing this feature
to track a boyfriend/girlfriend/fiance/roommate/spouce, etc. Make a new
twitter account, quietly log in their SL account, turn this feature on, and
voila: instant tracking system.
I would consider worrying about stuff like this AFTER we deal with allot more
of the accessibility, content creation, privacy, and new user needs and only if
implementation is such that it would take a conscious effort to tweet
something...

How does Twitter's new restrictions on 3rd party apps factor in on this since
Twitter changed things recently?

Re: [opensource-dev] Snowstorm 2.6.1 with Advanced and Basic mode

2011-03-20 Thread Argent Stonecutter
I like the suggestion that the "basic" mode be called something like "tourist"
or "introductory" or "beginners" mode. There's just so much stuff that people
need to be able to do that it seems to be ruling out, I can't imagine anyone
sticking with it for long. "Basic" implies that someone could actually use it
permanently.

I like "tourist", with maybe (eventually 3?) modes: "tourist", "resident", and
"creator" (or "resident-creator").

I don't think separating "creator" like that is a good idea. Everyone in SL is
potentially a creator, at every moment, that's what makes it cool.

2011-03-20 Thread Erin Mallory

I'm working on a blog that i hope to post within the week with really detailed
feedback... but... I think there should be three modes rename the basic to
beginner, the advanced to normal... and add an expert mode with even more
settings (something like what firestorm is shaping up to be). or better yet
just allow true skinning with the ability to add in lots more options depending
on the skin you're using ...
