[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 320753] Okular crashed when searching large document

Yes, now I see that I can make it crash just by navigating. Scrolling through
the document, pressing page down and page up, (while it is being loaded in the
background, I assume) also crashes Okular after a while.

I tried running from the command line as you suggested. This time it was harder
to provoke a crash. I scrolled up and down through the document a few times,
and it worked OK. I also did a few searches, and it worked OK. Finally, I
searched for "navigation" a few times, and then it crashed.

The lines you asked for are pasted here:

I also get a ton of lines (a few thousand) like:
okular(19505)/okular (app) Okular::Document::requestPixmaps: request id=3
651x922@270
with different page numbers at the end

I have pdfinfo version 0.20.5

Again, I searched for "navigation" until Okular crashed, which was at some
point after page 83. However, the reason for the crash this time seems to be
that valgrind ran out of memory. I have 16 GB RAM, but run 32-bit Kubuntu with
PAE. I don't see any "Painter not active" messages this time.

I just tried to run the same thing again, and now I was able to search through
the document until okular asked if I wanted to continue from the beginning. The
difference this time was that I waited long enough to let the whole document
load before starting to search (I have the "greedy" performance setting, so it
reads in all the pages in the background). No valgrind crash, and no okular
crash.

(Thanks a lot for all your help, by the way!)

Valgrind output without searching

Maybe the problem also has to do with which monitor output I am using.

The attached log is the output from valgrind when just opening the document and
let it sit and load all the pages, without searching. I just ran
valgrind okular ICRA-2013-Digest.pdf 2>valgrind-okular-output5
and went for lunch, and this crash report is what I had when I came back.

This time, the okular window was at my laptop screen, which is 1920x1080. Last
time, when I didn't get a crash, the window was open on the external VGA
monitor, which is 1280x1024.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 320753] Dynamic memory usage limit doesn't take into account virtual memory exhaustion

2013-06-10 Thread bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320753

The image sizes on the 1280x1024 monitor is 1017x1439 pixels, according to the
output below

okular(12441)/okular (app) Okular::Document::requestPixmaps: request id=3
1017x1439@272

So that would mean 5.8 MB/page, and indeed 1.6 GB for the whole document.
Running htop tells me that okular uses 1662 MB virtual memory and 1555 MB res
memory.

[Okular-devel] [Bug 211990] New: metadata format is locale dependant

2009-10-26 Thread bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=211990

Summary: metadata format is locale dependant
   Product: okular
   Version: 0.9.2
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: okular-devel@kde.org
ReportedBy: bugzi...@gronbaek.net

Version: 0.9.2 (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

When exporting an annotated PDF to an Okular document archive, the metadata.xml
file will contain locale dependant information. Specifically the coordinates of
any annotations will be stored with the locale delimiter.

A document stored with the Danish locale will have the following coordinate
format:

with a comma (,) as the delimiter. If this document is open on a machine with
for example an English locale, all annotations are shown in the review sidebar,
but not in the actual document. Closing/exporting the document will change all
annotations to the form which will render the
document useless on the machine with the original locale.

A search and replace for , to . (comma to dot) in the metadata.xml file will
work as a workaround.

[Okular-devel] [Bug 194327] New: Okular takes too time to display the content of PDFs while moving fast through many pages

2009-05-27 Thread maui . bugzilla

Summary: Okular takes too time to display the content of PDFs
while moving fast through many pages
   Product: okular
   Version: 0.8.2
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: okular-devel@kde.org
ReportedBy: maui.bugzi...@mailnull.com

Version: 0.8.2 (using 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.28-11-generic

I have Okular installed and up to date from Kubuntu 9.04.

While viewing a PDF document, I do fast scroll down, but okular takes too time
(for me) to load each page.
If I go fast backwards through the already preloaded pages, they are displayed
correctly the way I expect for.

---> My computer is fast (3Gb RAM and Turion64x2 2Ghz) so I would like an
option to pre-load all PDF document at the beginning, so when I move through it
pages the first time, I can view its content instantaneously.

Note: I changed Preferences to Memory usage: aggressive, but this option
doesn't seems to take effect (after closing and re-opening to let the changes
to take effect)

Thanks!

Ok, what a pity(?-googletranslated) for this situation.

> If you don't want to see empty pages, you could try to disable the "background
> generation" in the permormance settings.

Yes, thanks. This is less responsiveness, but it's better for me because this
way I am viewing the PDF's content instead of empty pages.

okular (0.20.2) on KDE Platform 4.14.2 using Qt 4.8.6

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Surfing the net with konqueror and trying to read a pdf file makes okular to
crash (segmentation fault). I don't know if the bug can be fixed since I am
using debian stable jessie (yes, it should be *stable*...)
I can read the pdf just fine if I use chrome instead, so the bug is
konqueror-related.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 350073] Trim margins - Personalize ? (Wish)

2015-11-02 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350073

Hello Jake,

You probably don't remember me, I have suggest a year ago to add a self
trim margins feature to Okular and you have compute it - thanks a lot one
more time.
I am actually curious: how could I benefit from this feature ? Is there
any 'PPA' I could add to my repository ? Would you have an idea when this
would be available with an update of Okular ?

Thanks a lot, I wish you a wonderful day,

Thomas

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 355005] New: no notification on printing failure

2015-11-07 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355005

Bug ID: 355005
Summary: no notification on printing failure
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: jroll...@finestructure.net

The Debian package of okular will silently fail to print if the cups-bsd
package is not installed. The only indication that there is something wrong is
the following the terminal output if okular was opened from a terminal:

usage: lpr [-cdfghlmnpqrstv] [-#num] [-1234 font] [-C class] [-i [numcols]]
[-J job] [-Pprinter] [-T title] [-U user] [-wnum] [name ...]

If okular was not opened from the terminal it just silently fails to print,
with absolutely no notification to the user that anything is amiss. This is
incredibly aggravating if the printer is somewhere far away.

It would be great if okular could display a notification to the user of these
printer failures. Okular should be able to figure out that the correct
dependencies are not installed, and notify the user that printing will not be
possible until they are. This would alleviate a lot of aggravation on the part
of the users who don't have the necessary packages installed.

Thanks so much.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a document in okular
2. attempt to print
3.

2015-11-07 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355005

--- Comment #1 from jroll...@finestructure.net ---
There are Debian bugs about this issue, but their resolution involved making
sure that the needed cups-bsd package was included as a package Recommends.
They don't solve the overall problem of okular not notifying the user of the
problem if the cups-bsd package was never installed for whatever reason:

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 355283] New: Feature request: Less columns in overview mode if document has less pages

2015-11-13 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355283

Bug ID: 355283
Summary: Feature request: Less columns in overview mode if
document has less pages
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: lauri.l...@helsinki.fi

I use the overview mode by default, because I read many presentations. However
when I open a document with just one page, it is displayed with 1 column of the
page, and 2 empty columns. This can mean that the document is not legible, and
I have to switch the view mode or zoom in.

I suggest to set the amount of columns to maximally the amount of pages in the
document.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open document with just one page, when in overview mode.

--- Comment #3 from jroll...@finestructure.net ---
(In reply to Albert Astals Cid from comment #2)
> Which package provides lpr if not cups-bsd?

There are two packages in Debian that provide a command called 'lpr': lpr and
cups-bsd. I don't quite understand the difference between them. From the
description:

lpr: BSD lpr/lpd line printer spooling system
cups-bsd: Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - BSD commands

> What is the exit status of that lpr command if passed some random crap in
> the command line (so it gives you that usage output). You can know the exit
> status by doing
> lpr somecrap
> echo $?

This command does not produce the output that I see from okular:

servo:~ 0$ lpr somecrap
lpr: cannot open somecrap: No such file or directory
servo:~ 1$

So presumably that's not the command being issued by okular.

2. Can you make the first part of the Navigation panel optional? I only want

it a search box in the menu bar - it doesn't belong in the prime spot on the

There is a way now to add a custom image (svg, png) to a stamp (description
here -> http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Okular)
With "Save as.." it is even possible to write annotations down to the PDF-file.

Unfortunately, those notifocations are not shown by common PDF Viewers (Adobe
Reader, PDF-Master,...) Neither it is possible to print them to a new PDf File
(which seems to work just for text-annotations)

3. right-click, save under pdf

What is the expected behavior?
Saving the PDF with a right-click without automatically opening it in the
external pdf-viewer. It is just supposed to save the file not open it otherwise
I would have left-clicked to open it.

What went wrong?
It opens the pdf-file instead of just saving it.

While what should 73G do remains somewhat ambiguous, it would be awesome to see
`gg` and `G` implemented (I think we can do it ourselves by modifying custom
shortcuts, though). ^g in Okular opens Goto Dialog which corresponds to page,
so 73G should mean page instead of line.

I see this bug has not been resolved yet for version 0.19.3.

Please implement this by opening a new window when following external file
links. When working on large, multi-document projects, with many links between
them, it is more convenient to be able to see the different documents
side-by-side, rather than switching between them in the same window. Evince
does it this way too.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 357822] New: Superscript characters sometimes not displayed

2016-01-10 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357822

Bug ID: 357822
Summary: Superscript characters sometimes not displayed
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: PDF backend
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: felix.reun...@arcor.de

In some documents the superscript characters sometimes (in some specific
locations in the text) are not displayed. E.g. if you have a mathematical
expression like x² the squareroot "2" is invisible. Problem is reproducible.
Same document on Windows with "acroread" or "gv" on linux is correct displayed.
Same wrong behavior with "Evince", but not with "gv" as already mentioned.
Example document is available. Do not know how to provide the document on this
KDE bug tracking plattform ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open critical document
2.
3.

Actual Results:
y = 0,025x – 0,9x +6.

Expected Results:
y = 0,025x² – 0,9x +6.

My freetype version appears to be 2.5.2-4ubuntu2 (says my package manager).

P.S.: Sorry for the wrong rating of the bug, but it is the first time that I
reported a bug. My first impression was, that the bug is grave for the user
(me), because it changed the content of the document content with no visible
correlation to surrounding circumstances. I spend a lot of time to find out why
my calculation results for nearly every second (I found these behaviour in many
other pdf documents from this exercising internet platform) exercise were wrong
-:).

I do think it is common sense that all kind of tools can be placed indiviually
in toolbars which each user can hide or show as desired. To my opnion it is
more than strange that this one toolbar can only be displayed by switching it
to visible every time it is neede. It should be a decision of the user and not
of the developers if and when a toolbar shall be visible or not.

Kind regards

This happens for me as well, under the same conditions, i.e. recompiling a

Okular reports version 0.24.0, KDE development platform 4.14.16. The system is
on KDE Frameworks 5.18, KDE Apps 15.12.1 and Plasma 5.5.3.

Resizing the window sometimes makes it go away, sometimes not.

Unfortunately, for me this only works for some of the fields, not all - see

OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: i...@andreas-winter.eu

I cannot print 4 pages on one page via Print to PDF option in Okular. The
created file still shows one page for every page of the old pdf.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open document with some pages inside
2. File/Print/Select Print to File (PDF) and your output-file
3. In options/pages select "4 pages for every page"
4. Print it

Actual Results:
You get a pdf document which is exactly the same as the original one.

Expected Results:
You should get a pdf on which pages are 4 pages of the printed version. So if
you have an original file with 16 pages. You should get a pdf with 4 pages, 4
small pages on every page.

I can confirm this issue. The following screenshot is from a virtual machine
with Fedora 23.

There are two okular programs open in this screenshot. The first one in the
background is the stock okular, I opened the longname pdf first, then the
shortname pdf second to confirm as the bug report states.

The okular running in the foreground was launched from within Kdevelop, with a
two line code change. Seems to work properly to resolve the issue.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 364144] New: invalid XBM leads to out of bounds read

2016-06-09 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364144

Bug ID: 364144
Summary: invalid XBM leads to out of bounds read
   Product: okular
   Version: 0.25.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: mobipocket backend
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: rtpubl...@gmail.com

An xbm file with the wrong width and/or height information leads to out of
bounds reads.
Example file:

#define example_width 12
#define example_height 1
static unsigned char example_bits[] = {
   0x00, 0x00,
   0x00, 0x00
   0x00, 0x00
   0x40, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xf0, 0x01,
   0xf8, 0x03,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0xe0, 0x00,
   0x00, 0x00
   0x00, 0x00
   0x00, 0x00
};

The actual height of the image is 16, as can be seen in the pixel array (each
row represents one row of pixels). Okular displays this image as 1 pixels
high, with rows > 16 filled with seemingly random data.

Version info from About box:
Okular
Version 0.25.0
Using KDE Development Platform 4.14.20

Backend info:
Image Backend
Version 0.1.2
Using KDE Development Platform 4.14.20

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Save given XBM to example.xbm
2. Run okular example.xbm

Actual Results:
Displayed image is 1 pixels high, with all but the top 16 seemingly random.

Expected Results:
Displayed image is 16 pixels high and/or a warning/error about an invalid image
is shown.

[Okular-devel] [okular] [Bug 364809] New: can't print file that contains invalid UTF-8 sequence

2016-06-27 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364809

Bug ID: 364809
Summary: can't print file that contains invalid UTF-8 sequence
   Product: okular
   Version: 0.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: peter.malo...@brockmann-consult.de

maybe 2 related bugs reported together

(1) can't open a file with an invalid utf8 character in it, even though it's a
valid filename
okular 'kindergeld'$'\303\244''nderung3.pdf'

error window pops up "Could not open kindergeldänderung3.pdf"

can work around this by renaming the file, or symlinking to it

the file is available at this link, and I'll try attaching it too:
https://www.arbeitsagentur.de/web/wcm/idc/groups/public/documents/webdatei/mdaw/mdc0/~edisp/l6019022dstbai385303.pdf

(2) can't print the file because the "job name" it gives the printer has an
invalid utf8 character
on console, you can see output like:
lpr: Bad job-name value: "job-name": Bad name value
"Vernderungsmitteilung" - bad UTF-8 sequence (RFC 2911 section 4.1.2).

the command it uses (obtained by replacing the lpr command with a script
that logs it)
/usr/bin/lpr -P okidoki -#1 -J Vernderungsmitteilung -r
/tmp/kde-peter/okularH13352.ps

And while that's true that the sequence is invalid UTF-8, I don't really care
what the job name is, and would rather it just fake it and print; it wouldn't
affect the hard copy. And okular set the job name... it doesn't give me control
of it. I wouldn't even know what the job name was to use it since it doesn't
match the title or filename or anything.

So my workaround was to write a wrapper script that uses iconv to check args
and replaces invalid ones with $RANDOM. And that works.

Reproducible: Always
