[nexa] A driverless Waymo got stuck in traffic and then tried to run away from its support crew - The Verge

One of Waymo’s fully autonomous minivans 
 
got stuck at an intersection in Chandler, Arizona, prompting the company 
to send a roadside assistance team to come extract it. But when the crew 
arrived, the vehicle started to drive away before pulling over and 
completely blocking a three-lane road. It was a rare moment captured on 
video of one of Waymo’s driverless vehicles performing erratically.


The incident was recorded from inside the vehicle by Joel Johnson, who 
publishes videos on YouTube under the handle JJRicks Studios 
 about his 
experiences using Waymo’s Level 4 autonomous vehicles, which operate 
without a safety driver behind the wheel. Johnson’s video is a rare 
unedited look at what happens when one of the world’s most proficient 
autonomous vehicles gets tripped up by a few orange safety cones.


“It’s no longer stranded and now it’s blocking, okay,” a remote operator 
is heard saying to Johnson at one point in the video, to which he 
replies, “Well, this is interesting!”

Mi è stato segnalato (grazie Stefano) che l'articolo è datato: mi 
risulta del maggio '21, comunque non così remoto.


Magari hanno fatto passi avanti, comunque mi parevano interessanti da 
notare alcune cose che emergono se si ha la pazienza di visionare il 
filmato:


- quanto fosse smarrita la macchina in un contesto assolutamente 
prevedibile e ordinato per un umano: bastano alcuni coni per impallare 
la guida autonoma;


- quanto la dipendenza dall'intervento umano di emergenza richieda 
tempo, e che nel frattempo il passeggero non possa fare assolutamente nulla;


- e che nel frattempo così tanti automobilisti siano stati messi in 
condizioni di pericolo o comunque indotti a commettere infrazioni, come 
il salto di carreggiata.


Cosa avrebbe fatto la polizia urbana?

aggiungi che una macchina ferma in mezzo alla corsia di sorpasso in una strada a due 
corsie, in geografie diverse e' situazione foriera di tamponamento certo!

Gianluca Mazzini, DG di Lepida, mi ha risposto, segnalandomi che:

debba in ogni caso possibile essere il più neutrale possibile. Anni 
orsono ero un radicale dell'open source oggi credo che un giusto mix 
debba esistere per vari motivi. La filiera però non è tra open e closed 
ma probabilmente tra neutralità e multiscelta, tra linguaggi e 
middleware. Per quello che posso sarei molto propenso ad ampliare questa 
discussione in modo laico. [...]"


Suggerirei alla segreteria Nexa di tener conto di tale disponibilita' e, 
alla prima occasione utile, di coinvolgere Mazzini su questo tema specifico.


Ovviamente ho segnalato a Mazzini che questa lista è pubblica e, quindi, 
lui e/o qualche suo collaboratore/collaboratrice puo' certamente 
seguirne i lavori, senza alcuna preclusione.
