Multiple call for Iconv
Having installed Reporter for another unrelated reason, I have noticed that on every occasion a Netsurf window is opened, Netsurf calls for the Iconv module. e.g. : 16:08:19.82 [Appl/NetSurf] RMEnsure Iconv 0.04 RMload System:Modules.Iconv 16:08:19.82 [Appl/NetSurf] RMEnsure Iconv 0.04 Error 16_10F iconv support requires the Iconv module 0.04 or newer I have a copy of Iconv : ==> Help on keyword Iconv Module is: Iconv 0.11 (04 Jan 2011) in System:Modules, so I don't understand why it is constantly being called for - and a lot of times. The above is repeated 32 times each time a new window is opened! John -- /____ /Mail fromm...@johnwoodhouse.plus.com
Incompatible site?
On Netsurf - all versions I have, including 3.0 (Dev# 975) Netsurf crashes out on trying to access www.itproportal.com/2013/02/19/10-tips-for-the-samsung-galaxy-s3/ Works fine on my laptop Win7 John -- /____ /Mail fromm...@johnwoodhouse.plus.com . . . using RISC OS 5.16 on an XScale powered Iyonix computer.
Iconv report
Can someone explain why (at least in !Netsurf 3.0) the !Run file contains : RMEnsure Iconv 0.12 NetSurfRMLoad System:Modules.Iconv RMEnsure Iconv 0.12 Error NetSurf requires Iconv 0.12 or later. This can be downloaded from http://www.netsurf-browser.org/iconv/ - and this is the version I have running according to !Verma, and yet, running !Reporter, I see that when running !Netsurf for the first time, there is a delay while this is repeated no fewer than 189 times: ! [Appl/NetSurf] RMEnsure Iconv 0.04 RMload System:Modules.Iconv [Appl/NetSurf] RMEnsure Iconv 0.04 Error 16_10F iconv support requires the Iconv module 0.04 or newer on subsequent page loads it is repeated a mere 66 times. Apart from the question of why this is repeated so many times, so slowing up page loads, where is this coming from when Iconv 0.04 is called for in the !Run file, and in any case Iconv 0.12 is running? Another site crashing NS?
As soon as I open http://www.leroyalmeridien-dubai.com/ the page opens with part of the page loaded, and then freezes completely. I am using it from VRPC, so need to quit RISC OS to get out of the situation. Does this site also cause a freeze using "real" RISC OS, or is it just VRPC? Memory still not being released
I have been using NS 3.0 for the most part, but having tried with 3.1 and now the latest available 3.3 (Dev CI #2070), the problem seems to persist: Using VARPC, memory is limited - the most I can use is around 102Mb. and running Netsurf initially knocks that back to c. 94Mb with a Google default page. If I now click on e.g. the Youtube link it drops to c. 81mb. Fair enough, but if I now re-load the same page the available memory drops around 9Mb each time until it reaches about 62Mb - on one occasion it droped to 39Mb but this seems to vary. This means that I have to keep a wary eye on memory available to avoid VARPC crashing if I start using heavier applications. Quitting from Netsurf releases the used memory, but is there any other way of preventing this? John P.S. Having just tried the above procedure using the latest download (#2070), it seems to be even worse: available memory dropped to 30Mb. -- /____ /Mail fromm...@johnwoodhouse.plus.com . . . using RISC OS
