AND is it therefore automatically merged with the resident Iconv?

If so, that is very nice.

You still need to merge the !Boot and !System directories. The point I was
making was that the !Boot and !System directories that are shipped with
NetSurf include NetSurf's dependencies. Since the latest iconv is a
dependency it contains that too.

You don't need to download iconv individually from the iconv web site in
order to run NetSurf, because any version of NetSurf which requires it
will include it in the archive.

It's been a requirement of the Style Guide since at least 1993, so
arguably RISC OS has always behaved this way.

I find it more useful to place the cursor at the end of whatever portion
of the URL I wish to keep and to press Ctrl-Copy to delete right to end
of icon instead

Should 'Reading GIF failed' fail to display a GIF?

2008-11-30 Thread Tim Hill

I refer to the following animated gif which I know has been a bit broken
since creation but which does seem to display in every browser /except/
netsurf.

http://www.tightfittheatre.co.uk/sprite.gif>

Why is that?

It does work in older versions such as that of 20th April 2007 19:15.

But it does have that bit of 'interference' near the bottom in some of the
frames.

Why not remake it from the sprite sequence, correcting the interference and
see what happens?

I could but that's not the point.

Perhaps you wanted me to say that the NetSurf GIF renderer has become more
fussy and your GIF just isn't up to it!

But I don't see how that helps.

I don't think so. Over typing has only been generally possible (as
opposed to non standard behaviour in specific apps) since copy & paste
in icons was introduced in Select 3 in 2003, 10 years after the style
guide was written.

Eh? I haven't got a "Copy" key. Is that "Delete" on the RPC keyboard?

I find that the 'End' key seems to have the same function as the old
BBC 'Copy' key.

Yes you're quite right - Ctrl-End does the job. Useful shortcut when
you know it!

The "End" key (it was copy on the A3000 and earlier).
