StartActivity(intent);

Will just be good to know from Attachmate and Xamarin what happens with

I am interested in knowing what the future for MonoTouch is…. I am
currently writing an application, and getting close to the point where I
want to deploy to an iDevice.

Questions going through my head are:

- Do I bite the bullet and purchase a MT license now so I can deploy before
they pull it from the store, but left with $$$ worth of unsupported software
(will it still be unsupported?)?

- Or should I wait (and delay!) x number of months to buy the shiny new
product? And how long will x be?

There are a lot of unknowns in what is going on in MT land… with all the
turmoil going on (e.g. Apples TOS banning and then allowing MT, Attachmate)
it makes me nervous to keep investing time and effort in MT and related
technologies (don’t get me wrong… I love the thing)

I would just like a clear roadmap with expected timelines from
Attachmate/Xamarin to help me make my decisions.

Thanks, Nick

It looks like Miguel and his guys are in a new company to cre ate a new
toolset for iOS and Android, i.e., it seems they are not working anymore on
MonoTouch and Mono-Android.

So the question remains, what will be the future of the current tools, by
Attachmante?

I guess we will have to wait to see what happens, or wait for the new
Miguel's tools and buy them again.

code. You may use the source code in your own projects, however the source
code may not be used to create training material, courses, books, articles,

which suggests to me that I can't share my port :-(

Yes, thanks, found that example too.

Re.: I don't think it uses e.Size though. The class EclairMotionEvent uses

PointerCount was the key! Using it I get pinch zoom code being reached. I
think I’ll need to tweak it a little bit to work properly ;-).

Here is a 'panning' example that I can share https://gist.github.com/848571
in case that is of use. Maybe it can be a starting point for you. It only
does panning though, not zooming; and doesn't include the two 'helper'
classes WrapMotionEvent and EclairMotionEvent which i think are key to
tracking the two fingers.

Good luck!

I dont have an example i can give you, but we are working as you deschribed.
For WinCE, Android, WP7 und iOS. The basic idea is to share the code
beetween different projects. Create one Visual Studio Project for each
platform you want to target. Then develop as usual in opf of the projects
and add all the files to the other project als link. Use only code that
works on both plattforms or in case this is not possible write a solution
for each platform and don't share the files between the two projects.

I need to obtain IMEI and phone number - I know I need read permissions but

1) There doesn't seem to be an implementation of
 android.telephony.TelephonyManager.getDeviceId().  In
mono I can only find GetObject

2) Another java suggestion is to call

a. TelephonyManager telephonyManager =
(TelephonyManager)getSystemService(Context.TELEPHONY_SERVICE);
telephonyManager.getDeviceId();

b. But again Mono doesn't seem to do GetSystemService

Mono documentation suggests that one doesn't call Android.telephoney
directly but one should use
 Android.Content.Context.GetSystemService(string)

This of course doesn't work in Mono and the documentation simply refers one
back to Android so I've reached an impasse

Can't see any previous posts on this so - anyone got any ideas?

TIA

All,

I’m getting worse runtime reliability with 1.0.2 than with 1.0.1.

For instance, seemingly-random WIN DEATH messages with no Mono for Android
error within well-exercised parts of the application that have worked fine
for a long time.

With 1.0.1 this type of thing seemed to be GC-related, but I don’t see
such an obvious pattern here (ie. a crash isn’t associated with a
GC_EXPLICIT just beforehand.)

Is anybody else seeing similar things? Or noticed an improvement since
1.0.1?

Jonathan – the 1.0.1 download isn’t available on the Releases page, is
there anywhere I can grab this to do some more testing?

Thanks,

Andy

Re: [mono-android] Mono for Android 1.0.3 Available [Link Fixed]

2011-08-23 Thread Carlo Bolz

Hello.

I´ve experienced the same behaviour. It is much more stable but in some
cases it hangs or it is really slow.

Kind regards,

Carlo

Jonathan,

That's great, I've really been looking forward to this.

>From my initial tests I think most of the GC problems I was seeing have been
resolved - random crashes where the app just dies don't seem to be happening
 nearly as much.

I say "as much"... to begin with I re-compiled against the new version and
saw no crashes. Then I made a minor change and the newly compiled version
would have an occasional problem (although not nearly as bad as before, and
totally unrelated to the code change.) I need to do some more testing to be
 sure though.

One thing I have noticed is that the GC now seems to hang the application
for a long time in some cases, sometimes for minutes. In those cases the adb
log will have no entries for the app, then a couple of minutes later it'll
say GC_EXPLICIT freed X objects/bytes in Yms (where X is large, maybe 200K,
and Y is small, maybe 50 ms). Following this GC_EXPLICIT everything just
carries on as normal, no crash.

I hope that this problem can be solved by re-instating a number of manual
GC.Collect(0) statements that I'd previously removed because they added to
 the general crashing issue.

Anyway, that's my initial feedback, it's looking encouraging. And the best
thing is that following the post-Attachmate uncertainty there's now a
feeling that things are moving forward quickly thanks to all of the hard
work from Xamarin people - great job all of you!

Cheers,

Andy
