CPAN Registration

2000-04-25 Thread Chris Fuhrman

Howdy!

Have written a couple of perl modules I'd like to contribute to the
archive.  Here's my registration info:

Name:  Chris Fuhrman
E-mail:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
WWW:   http://www.pobox.com/~cfuhrman
User-ID:   cfuhrman

I am planning on contributing two modules. One is a module for
interfacing with printer daemons that use BSD-style lpd daemon. The
second is module that communicates to HylaFAX servers using the new
FTP-based client/server protocol.

DLSI

LinePrinter- bdpO
Hylafax- adpO

LinePrinter is a module that allows the perlmonger to submit print jobs to
a BSD-style line printer as well as request status information from the
remote print server.

Hylafax is a module that allows the perlmonger to submit fax requests
using HylaFAX's FTP-based client/server protocol.

Please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide.

Naming suggestions?

Howdy,

Recently I uploaded a module called LinePrinter
(LinePrinter-0.10.tar.gz) under the name CFUHRMAN. Unfortunately, I was
not aware of the naming conventions at the time and realized that having
one's module in a top-level area is probably not a Good Idea.

The purpose of this module is to provide a method for perl programmers to
talk to remote print servers without having to create a pipe to lp or
lpr. I'm willing to rename the module (at least to give it more exposure
*G*) and I believe that having it under the Net:: hierarchy would be the
most logical choice (e.g. Net::LinePrinter or Net::RemotePrinter).

Other suggestions and comments would be appreciated!

Funny you should mention 'zzt zzt' noises. The original purpose of this
module was to print to an old OkiData line printer whose main purpose was
to make a loud racket when we printed alarms to it.

I don't have any problems with Net::Printer.

Cheers!
