Also, using Tib::Rv makes the C to Perl mapping very consistent and straightforward -- for instance, the C API function: tibrv_status tibrvQueueGroup_Add( tibrvQueueGroup queueGroup, tibrvQueue queue ); ... maps to: package Tib::Rv::Status; ... package Tib::Rv::Queue; ... package Tib::Rv::QueueGroup; sub add { my ( $self, $queue ) = @_; ... } And another thing, "Tib::Rv" saves a lot of typing and horizontal space in your code as opposed to "Tibco::tibrv". An average chunk of code using this module would look like: use Tib::Rv; my ( $rv ) = new Tib::Rv; my ( $transport ) = new Tib::Rv::Transport; $Tib::Rv::Queue::DEFAULT->createListener( $transport, 'MY.SUBJECT', sub { my ( $msg ) = @_; print "My callback received message $msg\n"; } ); while ( 1 ) { $Tib::Rv::Queue::DEFAULT->timedDispatch( Tib::Rv::WAIT_FOREVER ); } ... so I like the brevity of "Tib::Rv", since you end up having to type it quite a bit. I can totally do whatever y'all think is appropriate, but I really like Tib::Rv.

SQL::Statement version
Hi, Jochen Wiedman (JWEID) transferred ownership of SQL::Statment to me over two years ago. PAUSE lists me (JZUCKER) as the registered owner. However the modules list still lists the module as owned by JWEID and, most importantly CPAN.pm downloads his outdated version of the module rather than my much newer version. Please help! -- Jeff

That'll happen depending on what version of Parse::YAPP happens to be installed on my build system; that's a generated .pm file and I don't set the version manually. I must have different versions of Parse::YAPP on two machines I do maintenance to X::F::D on. There is no $XML::Filter::Dispatcher::VERSION. Whatever script is giving you grief must be scanning the file line by line and missing the fact that the $VERSION string it's finding is in a different package and does not refer to the file as a whole. > Please release a new distro that has higher version numbers than any > prior release. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll upgrade Parse::YAPP and rerelease X::F::D at some point, probably not immediately. No, it is perl specific > >why the name "License"? a legal arrangement is unrelated to the >technology, and a good design should allow your module to be used >for things unrelated to licensing. hmmm good point. I couldn't think of another name that was applicable. Perhaps a description of how it works would illuminate the choice. The developer portion has a couple of scripts, one which generates user certificates that contain short keys and usually contain a "terms of use statement" or License. The script crypts the perl sources and autoload stuff using a modified non-linear RC4 type of scrambling. The user end of things only decrypts and feeds the module into the perl engine. First it checks the user certificate for valid host, etc... + expiration date. If the "license" period has expired, it will not decrypt the file. There is an optional e-mail module that notifies the user/developer/licensor of pending expiration of the cert. Thus the choice of names. The objective of the module is to provide the developer that has spend a lot of time an $$ on a proprietary application in perl to be able to keep prying eyes out of source code. This encourages development of applications in perl rather than a compiled language such as "C". Any suggestions on what might be a good name other if this one is not suitable?
modid: Crypt::CapnMidNite
Bryan wrote: >> >> > Implements various encrypt and decrypt methods >> >> which ones? should they each have their own module? Michael said: >No, they are inter-related. Some individual methods can already be >found in other modules but are used withing CapnMidNite in a manner >that would not be as efficient if the external modules were used >instead. That was a pretty thin answer. More specifically, CapnMidnite implements MD5 and RC4 + RC4 modified-non-linear MD5 is identical in function to Digest::MD5, but because of the way it is used inside the C program, it would be a hassle to use the module though it could be done of course. The RC4 implementation is similar to Crypt::RC4 but this module appears to be broken and not maintained. This implementation corrects the errors and adds features for use in several other modules. The non-linear RC4 implementation is unique and prevents "unwinding" the encryption with the original crypt key. Used by Crypt::License and several modules not yet released but in use for a couple of years I'll get around to it eventually :-) Crypt::CapnMidNite has an alter ego included in the Makefile (Crypt::C_LockTite) that is used in the developer portion of Crypt::License that enables the reverse non-linear RC4 crypt function. There are INSTALL notes provided that explain its use and build. Crypt::C_LockTite will never be uploaded/released as it is only built on demand for Crypt::License per the included docs. Sorry about rambling on so... Michael

Don't recall getting this message. but no - sorta I suppose you could use it with any type of hash, but what would be the point? It was written to implement the cookie encryption scheme needed for secure cookies per the guidelines for Apache::AuthCookie. In addition to that, I've used it with Apache::Cookie to make other information carrying cookies, including a mini shopping cart module that I'll probably release eventually as well though it's pretty dumb code as modules go. There is no requirement per-se for module "Apache", it's just apache oriented but could be used with CGI::Cookie in a similar fashion. Would you like to suggest another name that might be more appropriate? Michael

It's already been pushed out to CPAN as Tib::Rv 0.02. Can I rename the module via PAUSE, or do I need to request the new Tibco namespace and just sort of ignore the existing Tib::Rv? Or maybe you can do some behind-the-scenes trickery? As for the keystrokes thing, I'm gonna layer on a bunch of factory methods, so instead of doing: my ( $rv ) = new Tibco::Rv; my ( $timer ) = new Tibco::Rv::Timer( $Tibco::Rv::Queue::DEFAULT, 4, \&mycallback ); ... you can do ... my ( $rv ) = new Tibco::Rv; my ( $timer ) = $rv->createTimer( 4, \&mycallback );
Module submission Class::Capsule
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Class::Capsule DSLIP: bdpOp description: Base Encapsulation Class userid: TSHOENFE (Todd Shoenfelt) chapterid:6 (Data_Type_Utilities) communities: similar: rationale: Encapsulation is an essential aspect of OO. Since the language doesn't offer access modifiers to protect instance data, I wrote this module, using a technique developed by Damian Conway, to fill that gap. This inheritable class enforces instance data encapsulation on child classes and AUTOLOADed accessors. It provides inherited methods: new(), to_string(), and equals() as well. Together, the definition of the object interface is intended to promote object interface consistency. I chose the 'Class' namespace since this is essentially an abstract class intended to be inherited by any object class. enteredby: TSHOENFE (Todd Shoenfelt) enteredon: Fri Jan 17 05:08:26 2003 GMT The resulting entry would be: Class:: ::Capsule bdpOp Base Encapsulation Class TSHOENFE Thanks for registering, The Pause Team PS: The following links are only valid for module list maintainers: Registration form with editing capabilities: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=9c10_0b28e54d82f7a39d&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_preview=1 Immediate (one click) registration: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=9c10_0b28e54d82f7a39d&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_insertit=1

1. Yes, I tried the forgot password link twice. The first time was last week and the second was earlier today. 2. We do filter email, but I don't believe any messages are dropped outright. They should end up quarantined in different folders based on whether they are spam, virus infected, etc. The messages will go away after a week in that state, but I check the folders daily in case any of my mailing list traffic is incorrectly categorized. I have received the automatic replies from [EMAIL PROTECTED] and your email (obviously) reached me, but that is all. What email address would the password emails be coming from? Are they sent from a possibly blacklisted SMTP server? Re: Psh version number retrograde
Randal -- Hmm... I've not run into this before, and I don't know what CPAN is thinking, but the way I see it is that (at least numerically) 1.0 > 0.009. Since 1.0 is the latest version, I don't see anything I'd consider 'retrograde' about the release order and version numbering of the Perl Shell (psh). A quick scan of some google results on "retrograde" shows you pointing out things I do see as retrograde, such as moving from 0.8 to 0.11 (since 0.11 < 0.8): http://www.rosat.mpe-garching.mpg.de/mailing-lists/modules/2000-01/msg00036.html If you can help me identify the way in which I've sinned in releasing psh-1.0 as the version to replace psh-0.009, I'd be happy to take appropriate remedial action (I did a quick grep for leftover references to 0.009 in the code, but didn't find any...). Re: Psh version number retrograde
Randal -- Thanks for taking the time to check it out (and, sorry I didn't get it right the first time). I see now where the problem was. The older code was using the CVS revision number as the VERSION, so the problem was deeper than just 0.009. Versions back to 0.005 have the same situation. Therefore, I've upgraded the Perl Shell to the nicely inflated version number of 1.7. Hopefully that will gloss over things sufficiently. I did test my system by doing an r /Psh/ under cpan, and it was satisfied that I am up to date. Version 1.7 is on its way to CPAN as we speak.
