Register Pause Id?
I'd like to register for a PAUSE id so I can upload the modules I've written to CPAN. My name and email [which should be in the From: of this message, but in case they aren't] are Benjamin Goldberg and [EMAIL PROTECTED] I don't have a homepage. My prefered user-ID is GOLDBB. The modules I've got written and am planning on putting on CPAN are: IO::Capture, a module that allows data sent to a filehandle to be captured, without using ties (eg, if you use it to begin capturing STDERR, and then fork off some program which prints to stderr, it will capture that program's output. A tie wouldn't do that). IO::Multiplex, a simple framework for building chat-like programs using IO::Select to perform nonblocking IO. IPC::Multiplex, a module which allows one to do nonblocking reads from multiple sources on systems where select() doesn't work on pipes. ex::lib::www, a pragma which lets you put a url in your @INC. It doesn't yet work with ex::lib::zip, but perhaps it will in the future, if there's a demand for it. -- print reverse( ",rekcah", " lreP", " rehtona", " tsuJ" )."+AFw-n";

[New Registration - Fwd: Re: CtCmd is an interface to ClearCase]
Dear PAUSE, Please register us as the developer of CtCmd. But if the naming convention > CtSomething is well-recognized in the ClearCase community, I guess > it's kind of an okay name. Also, just to be absolutely clear: the only kind of software allowed in CPAN is software covered under any of the the OSI-approved "free" licenses (http://www.opensource.org/ ). I'm certain you are fully aware of this, but I'm just being real cautious when getting email from a commercial software company... please acknowledge whether you do want the CPAN account for the CtCmd. -- $jhi++; # http://www.iki.fi/jhi/ # There is this special biologist word we use for 'stable'. # It is 'dead'. -- Jack Cohen --- End Message ---

Compatible with RFC::RFC822::Address, but significantly faster. Provisionally named Mail::RFC822::Address, it is currently available from: http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/Mail-RFC822-Address.html cheers, Paul

Module submission Mail::RFC822::Address
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Mail::RFC822::Address DSLIP: Rdpfd description: Regexp based RFC822 address validation userid: PDWARREN (Paul Warren) chapterid: 19 (Mail_and_Usenet_News) communities: London Perl Mongers list, comp.lang.perl.modules similar: RFC::RFC822::Address, Mail::CheckUser rationale: This module provides RFC822 address validation. Email address validation is a very common problem, as witnessed by the fact that there are several other approaches to address validation already on CPAN. Functionally, this module is equivalent to RFC::RFC822::Address, but avoids the significant startup performance hit of using Parse::RecDescent by using regular expressions (see http://london.pm.org/pipermail/london.pm/2001-September/005034.html) Mail::CheckUser implements much weaker syntax checking, but provides other functionality. I am very much open to advice on namespace choice, but, I believe that this module should live under Mail:: rather than RFC:: as its purpose. The RFC822::Address reflects the fact that the purpose of this module is to check email syntax against RFC822, no more, no less. It is my opinion that this is the one useful type of address validation that can be done. Figuring out if an address is deliverable is the job of MTAs. enteredby: PDWARREN (Paul Warren) enteredon: Fri Mar 15 15:36:07 2002 GMT The resulting entry would be: Mail::RFC822:: ::Address Rdpfd Regexp based RFC822 address validation PDWARREN Thanks for registering, The Pause Team PS: The following links are only valid for module list maintainers: Registration form with editing capabilities: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=5e00_8ea8d851b980b3d6&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_preview=1 Immediate (one click) registration: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=5e00_8ea8d851b980b3d6&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_insertit=1
Module submission Constant::
I wish to rescind the following namespace request. It seemed like a good idea, but when I tested under Windows, case-insensitive filenames got in the way. "use Constant" is equivalent to "use constant" under Windows (and for all I know, some other platforms). I have renamed the module to Readonly.pm, and will upload it under that name, and will redo the namespace registration under that name. I apologize for any trouble this has caused. Eric J. Roode Perl Authors Upload Server writes: > > The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: > > modid: Constant:: > DSLIP: bdprp > description: Create read-only scalars, arrays, hashes. > userid: ROODE (Eric J. Module submission Readonly
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Readonly DSLIP: bdprp description: Create read-only scalars, arrays, hashes. userid: ROODE (Eric J. Roode) chapterid:2 (Perl_Core_Modules) communities: RPI lily similar: constant.pm rationale: The built-in "use constant" pragma creates only scalars and lists; creates variables that have no leading $ or @ characters; creates only global variables. The variables it creates cannot be used as perl variable work-alikes in many ways (cannot be interpolated into strings; cannot take a reference to them). Also, it works only at compile time. Readonly.pm, by contrast, creates scalars, arrays, and hashes; these can be global or lexical; can be initialized at runtime; can be used as any other perl variables (except that they cannot be modified). Readonly.pm uses tied variables, so there is a performance penalty as compared to "use constant," but I believe it makes a useful complement to the pragma. enteredby: ROODE (Eric J. Roode) enteredon: Fri Mar 15 18:44:36 2002 GMT The resulting entry would be: Readonly bdprp Create read-only scalars, arrays, hashes.ROODE Thanks for registering, The Pause Team PS: The following links are only valid for module list maintainers: Registration form with editing capabilities: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=6e00_827e3443f4f02cc8&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_preview=1 Immediate (one click) registration: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=6e00_827e3443f4f02cc8&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_insertit=1
Module submission Proc::Fork
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Proc::Fork DSLIP: adpfp description: Simple interface to fork() system call userid: ROODE (Eric J. Roode) chapterid:4 (Operating_System_Interfaces) communities: RPI lily similar: Proc::Forkfunc rationale: Proc::Fork provides a simple wrapper to the fork() system call. (Not that using fork() is all that complex). It provides default error handling, and provides what I think is a nice syntax to clearly delineate the parent and child code. Proc::Forkfunc is rather limited, and seems not to have been updated since 1996. (also, I think Proc::Fork is a more sensible name than "Forkfunc", but that's my own prejudice, no doubt). It's not tested as thoroughly as I'd like, hence the "alpha" status, and the fact that test.pl has no test cases. If any of the CPAN testers out there can suggest nice test cases, I'd be grateful. enteredby: ROODE (Eric J.
