[MacPerl-Modules] Porting wxPerl to the Mac
Hi all, First of all, I'm not a Mac user, nor developer and know nothing of developing/porting modules for the Mac. However, I wanted to ask you if anyone is interested in trying to get wxPerl to work on the Mac. wxWindows (the API on which wxPerl i based) has been ported to the Mac already (for more information, take a look at http:/www.wxwindows.org) and -as I am told- can only be compiled using CodeWarrior. wxPerl (http://wxperl.sourceforge.net) is being developed by Mattia Barbon and is potentially the next GUI for Perl. Given that wxWindows itself has been ported to the Mac, I would think that it is possible to port wxPerl to the Mac too. I would personally love a GUI for Perl that works on the Mac, X and Win32 and imagine there are more people thinking the same way. Cheers! -- *---* |Jouke Visser|[EMAIL PROTECTED] | |Perl GUI Geek |http://www.pvoice.org | *---* PS: Notice new mailaddress!!

Re: New module DBIx::Sequence
On 09/25/01, Tim Bunce wrote: > > DBIx:: > >::SequencebdpOp Perl extension for the generation of unique BBEAUSEJ > What does it really do and why? I already edited the description of the module in the metadata to fix the truncate problem. The documentation has been updated too. This module is intended to give easier portability to Perl database application by providing a database independant unique ID generator. It basically implements a simple spin locking mechanism using full SQL92 compliant SQL. That way, applications that use DBIx::Sequence for their ID generation should be portable to other database engine without any modifications in their id generation code. It can also be used on database that don't support id generation natively to implement that functionnality. I'm _really_ familiar with Jabber, honest. Jabber is much more than an IM gateway. I'm saying that there's no call for a top-level namespace unless the Jabber community is going to populate it with a variety of internals hooks, in much the same way that the Apache community has. AFAICT, the only Jabber-related Perl modules that exist or have been proposed deal with "the Jabber protocol", from the network level (moving bits over the TCP) to the application level (building and parsing the XML). Ryan Eatmon's excellent and substantial offerings, for example, live under Net:: and XML::. If you're planning on doing something more integrated into Jabber's core, then I endorse a Jabber:: top-level namespace. If you just want to make the point that Jabber is more than IM, then I don't think the PAUSE namespace is the best forum for that. - Kurt

name: Jeff Younker email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web page: http://www.theblobshop.com desired username: JEFF most immediate submission: A module which encapsulates the dirty parts of authentication verification for CGI scripts. It is a generalization of something which Luke Sheneman at inktomi cooked up. It uses an LDAP server for authentication and stores the intermediate state information in an SQL database. Initial authentication is performed against LDAP servers, and credentials are stored into the SQL database upon successful verification. The credentials are then stuffed into a cookie and a "passkey" (stored in a hidden field) which are then used for authentication of subsequent pages. The injection and extraction of the cookie and passkey are handled by a wrapper around CGI.pm, and there are a variety of options for determining credential lifetimes and usage policies. The current version requires perldap, but it will be fairly easy to generalize it for Net::LDAP and other authentication sources. It will take a little rework, but it should fairly simple to include a file backed as an option for credential storage (instead of using SQL). -jeff

I've at least three packages I'm planning to upload in the near future, Jabber::Connection, Jabber::RPC and Jabber::RPC::HTTPgate. As you can see from the modules list this week, Piers is planning to contribute another two: Jabber::JAX::Component and Jabber::Judo::Element, with more to come. And I don't think that will be the last of it by any means, as is clear from the movements in the development community at the moment. > AFAICT, the only Jabber-related Perl modules that exist or have > been proposed deal with "the Jabber protocol", from the network level > (moving bits over the TCP) to the application level (building and > parsing the XML). Ryan has written some great modules, but as I briefly explained in my initial proposal, the Jabber::Connection package is a different approach. I'm sure you're not an advocate of 'one size fits all' in software... I don't understand how you turn the explanations and reasonings that I have given in response to queries on this list into a desire on my part to 'make a point' or use this list or the namespace as a 'forum' and am mildly offended, to say the least. dj
