disk not found after first reboot

2024-01-18 Thread Isak Lyberth
Hello guys, I am sorry to bother you with such a basic question.
After many years of only using my favorite OS on my firewall, I have
decided to install OpenBSD 7.4 on my Dell Latitude 7490 laptop, fitted with
a 500 GB Samsung 980 (non pro) nvme disk i use the entire disk with auto
partitioning).
it had Windows on it when iÍ got it, I removed it and used Linux Mint for
about a week and now i have installed OpenBSD 7.4. i have tried it a lot of
times, clearing the disk with the dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd0 command and
also dd'd to sd0a, rsd0 and anything i could think of, i also tried exiting
to shell and done some fdisk -iy sd0 (suggested on reddit)
I have tested that I can get FreeBSD and Dragonfly bsd installed on the
laptop.

I will gladly supply more info if needed.
But how do I get my laptop to boot OpenBSD?

Kind regards Isak

Dell Latitude 7490 with Samsung 980 m.2 drive, doesnt wake after screensaver

2024-01-28 Thread Isak Lyberth
I had problem getting the disk to work during installation. ended up
creating partitions on a windows computer to make installation work.

cleaned mbr

2005-07-29 Thread Isak Lyberth
Hi all
Most stupid thing i ever did i did today.
I was setting up a server today.
The customer is using a USB backup drive for all the backing up.
When i reinstalled the server i acidentaly mounted the backup drive. I was
asked if i wanted to use the entire drive for OBSD, and i of course answered
Yes.
Then i noticed that it was the wrong drive. And knowing that i hadn't yet
formated the harddrive i quickly got back and worked on the correct drive.
Of course now i have absolutely no data.
The backup drive is empty and the main disk has this beautifull OS on it.
Is there a way to regain the partition info that is lost, or am i just fcked?

when i add new users this symlink is created just fine, but the owner of

i need it to be a certain group that can will have read access to the

How do i make this possible?
i add users using addusers.
I have tried adding some chmod lines different places in the addusers

Re: Dell HW?

2005-05-20 Thread Isak Lyberth
We ditched Dell due to their pricing and delivery times.
When dell goes and say "shop at dell and avoid the middleman" then i
expect to get a cheaper computer, As they say them selves, they don't
have any stoch, they don't have any shops you buy directly from them.
When i buy i then have to wait 10 working days to get the thing.
I can go to almost any other major/minor company and get a similar
computer delivered next day at the same price, sometimes lower and
sometimes a little higher. Service and features are for the client
computer side roughly the same in DK for most major companies (dell,
FujitsuSiemens, IBM, Acer and so on).
Anyways that was a little off topic.

I have run OpenBSD on a few Latitude laptops from Dell and always seem
to have problems with the sound. anything else works great.

Regards Isak
We ditched Dell mostly due to their inherently retartded policy of not
shipping AMD-hardware.
With the introduction of Opterons there's just no valid reason for being an
Intel only shop any more, we now have multiple HP DL 145(AMD Opteron based)
of which some run OpenBSD, we're very pleased with HP so far.
