[MlMt] Length of Paid Mode for existing patrons

2024-12-23 Thread Randy Abbott
I've been a patron for several years (since 2019, I believe), but
MailMate states that my paid status will only lasts for 189 days. Is
that correct?___

I'm glad you ask! The answer is yes, but I'd like to explain why and I'm
also open to changing it.

The new payment model for MailMate is subscription only. It is
completely equivalent to being a patron and existing patrons do not have
to do anything. It'll work just as if having a subscription.

A payment of $10 equals approximately 3 months of “Paid Mode”. That
is, a user starting a subscription today will only get 3 months of
“Paid Mode” if the subscription is cancelled. They will se something
like 90 days left when initially adding the license key to MailMate.

For older license keys, I have these rules: MailMate will stay in
“Paid Mode” until 1 July 2025 or 2 years after the original purchase
date. Whatever comes last. Someone buying a license key 3 days ago will
see something like 730 days left.

Now, your case. Your license key is old which means, at a minimum,
MailMate will stay in the paid mode until 1 July 2025. You are also a
patron, but although MailMate does take these payments into account,
they have been added to the time since the original purchase date. When
paying $10 this doesn't give you anything extra while someone having
paid $20 or more would likely see a large value for “days left”.

I'd like to give some kind of reward to $10 patrons, but I haven't
decided how. I can do it server-side though and I have 189 days to do
so. It might also depend on how the subscription model is received in
general.

---

For me, it's mainly about what the user thinks is fair -- and on a case
by case basis I might do different things for different users. I'm just
trying to find the right balance for the overall approach. Two things to
keep in mind:

* I stopped my primary income 2 days ago (license key sales at $50).
* The difference between “Paid Mode” and “Free Mode” is minimal.
The end of paid mode does not mean the end of using MailMate.

I hope that clears up things a bit.

Ok, I thought about it ;) The homepage has been updated and a new beta
released. I've also hidden the “Paid Mode” button by default unless it's less
than 3 days from switching to “Free Mode”.

If someone likes the button, it can still be explicitly enabled in the
“MailMate > Registration” menu ;)

I won't be working full time the next few days – but I'll naturally try to
handle any serious issues reported.

I've actually done it before. It has the advantage that serious issues will
have less of an impact if most people are not working ;) (Autoupdating an email
client can be an awful interruption for users in the middle of a workday.)

We'll see if I regret it, but so far it's ok.

Can you explain your use case?

What you like to do?

Maybe then more solutions arise with this background information.

With so many settings in Mailmate, if I wanted to have the same on
another one of my computers like my travel laptop, this would greatly
help.

Re: [MlMt] 6067 won't open on M1 Max

2024-12-23 Thread John Purnell
Just as a point of reference, I have the same Mac and have been running MM
builds up to 6065 on Monterey and Sonoma with no issues. What I have noticed is
that in the *last while* there has been some delay between launching MM and its
window appearing (can see its icon in the Dock). I suspected that it was
phoning home to check for updates which for some reason had become slower, but
clicking the icon brings it's window to the front. But because I keep MM open
between reboots it hasn't bothered me.

Do you have some software like Little Snitch preventing the outgoing connection
as that may be it?
