If you really want that, use a service like g-mail that promises to do

What the message from OP’s university says is that they are disabling
IMAP and SMTP protocols on their Office 365 service. That is an optional
access to Office 365, which itself has always been proprietary, Charlie.
If there is enough people at the university that do not have mail
clients that work natively with Office 365, there might be enough
complaints that the service is restored. This is up local politics.___

Thanks, Eric. Active Sync is evidently Microsoft's version of IMAP. It has been
around for a while and MS is apparently claiming that Active Sync is more
secure for mobile devices. I tried to set up a new IMAP account with MailMate,
but get no screen showing the option of OAuth2, and I'm quite sure now that
Active Sync is NOT OAuth2.

I don't know too much about ActiveSync, but if it's Exchange 365 using
so-called modern Auth (i.e. OAuth2), my experience is that MailMate
r5757 works fine. You need to select OAuth2 in the "IMAP Account
Settings" screen for both IMAP & SMTP. Specify
outlook.office365.com as
the IMAP & SMTP Servers, enter your email address, and you'll
authenticate via a window that will appear.

It's possible the server side is configured to only allow specific mail
clients. If that's the case, you'll see a message about MailMate not
being an approved client. At that point you're at the mercy of your
school and whatever policies they have in place.

But it's worth a try, it might just work!

2021-02-04 Thread Eric Sharakan
You might be right about ActiveSync; perhaps your school is only
supporting that, rather than full Exchange w/Oauth2. As for MM, I think
the OAuth2 option only becomes available after entering the appropriate
server hostnames for IMAP & SMTP (and maybe even hitting "apply").
Also, I think r5757 is needed.

Good luck.

Re: [MlMt] 2nd IT&IP Service Notice: Campus Email Protocols IMAP/SMTP/POP Disabled - 2/1

2021-02-04 Thread David Green
My University did this about 4 years ago giving the reasoning that the
two-factor authentication solution (DUO) did not work with the older
protocols (SMTP, IMAP, ICAL) and this presented a vulnerability.

I did try DavMail suggested by someone already and I seem to remember it
worked.

Forwarding all mail out may or may not be possible technically depending on
server settings and may be against University policy. Even if it works,
you may find that mail from y...@university.edu being sent by SMTP back into
University addresses may not be accepted by Office365 (again based on
administrative settings).

This may be the wrong forum for my question but I’m feeling
adventurous…so here goes…

Is there any technical reason, such as infosec, to remove IMAP\SMTP from
one’s network? I am by no means an IMAP\SMTP guru but I have used
them at various levels for the better part of 15+ years and my
experience has been that when used properly, both protocols are
perfectly secure.

I’m sure there some things I’m not seeing here so gurus-at-large,
have at it and educate me…

I believe that quick-viewing an attachment to a message -- clicking the
little eye icon to open a view of it directly in MailMate, rather than
saving it and opening it in its native application -- saves a copy of
the attachment to a folder hierarchy in
~/Library/Caches/com.freron.MailMate/Attachments/. Is there any harm in
deleting them from there? Especially if I've deleted the message they
were attached to, but even if I haven't, I might want to reclaim the
space.

I just double checked that it works for me, and it does.

Selected 357 messages, did choose "Move to mailbox" menu alternative, selected
a mailbox and voila, the messages where moved. Between mailboxes in different

Re: [MlMt] r5757 Move to Mailbox broken?

2021-02-04 Thread Thomas Eckhold
I have noticed that in r5757 the move only works if the focus in MM is on the
message pane (blue color of selected messages). As soon as the focus is
somewhere else (on the pane of mailboxes and sources, for example), MM will not
move even previously in the message pane selected messages. That was different
in the past, if I recall correctly. Actually I would prefer that the „move to“
command would apply to any selected message regardless of which area is
activated in MM.
