questions about my new ipod fifth generation, and audible books
Hi listers. I just recently purchased a fifth generation IPod, and I love it, except for 1 peculiarity that I don't know how to get around. When I type something on its keyboard, it seems to be scruntched down toward the bottom of the screen, but once I start typing, the keyboard seems to expand itself. Is there a way for it to stay expanded at all times? Second, I have some audible books I'd like to make mp3 files out of. Is there a way to do this on the Mac? Thanks for any help. Hi folks. Using safari, is there a way to have it ask you where you want things saved every time you click a download link on a web page, instead of files being saved at a specific location? I know that i e on the pc, and firefox for the pc used to do this, but I can find no option for this in safari. Do the mac versions of firefox or gooogle chrome offer this option? Hi, listers. How do I find the bit rate of an mp3 file on my mac? I selected a single mp3 file, went into its context menu, and into the get info window, and seemingly found everything but the bit rate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. quickly moving through the message list with mail
How is the best way to do this. I've tried every modifier key in conjunction with the pgdn key, and nothing seems to work. Hi Chris. I did everything you suggested in getting Xcode and macports, and got them installed The only thing i did differently, was install x ports, with is supposed to be the new x11. When I tried to do the sudo port upgrade outdated I got some sort of error message I can't remember right now. When I did the self update, everything seemed to go smoothly. Any ideas? Thanks again. Re: Mbraille new Braille keyboard iPhone app
Not sure if this is the case with the new m braille, but when I tried to use braille touch, and when I'd try to do the letter N, the app would come up with either a Z or a the sign, so it seemed a little backwards, so I gave up on it. Hi everyone. From the point of view of someone who's a gadget freak, admittedly, the whole touch screen idea was a little weird to me, but I have a good friend who had 1 of the first ipod touches with voice-over, and he let me play with it for about 10 minutes, and he showed me how to use thje most common gestures, so, when I got my iPhone, I didn't go in blindly, (no pun intended). Another thing that was a big help, was the salesman at the apple store where I got the phone, who spent 3 hours with me, patiently showing me skads of different things, and if he didn't know something, he looked it up, and we learned together. Ever since then, i've been like a kid in a candy store. Just my 2 cents, and btw, this is coming from a guy who used to be a very loyal mobile speak user from 2005 until 2010. Actually, although it takes some getting used to, I rather don't mind the concept of interaction. It's most helpful in tool bars, where you can access all of the buttons and other controls confined within that particular area. Actually, you can add books to yur wish list from within the app in the get books tab, then download them once they're added there. When they're downloaded, they will appear in the bookshelf tab. strange behavior with apple tv remote
Hi folks. I have a strange situation I'd like help with. I have an apple tv, and a mac computer. For some strange reason, when I try to control my apple tv with its remote, the remote wants to also control certain aspects of my mac. odd behavior when trying to pair and connect my Mac and iPhone
HI listers. IN trying to pair and connect my iPhone to my Mac, I do everything it says to do, and when I go to connect the phone with the mac, it says 'connection unsuccessful. tricking the mac mini into thinking it has a display
Hi listers. Someone mentioned some sort of adaptor that you could use on the mac mini to trick it into thinking it had a display when it actually didn't. The audio jacks are located on the very back bottom panel of the mac mini. I believe from what I've read, the jacks are capable of accepting optical cables, provided they have the correct tips to correspond with the jacks. The left most jack, if you're looking at the mac mini, reaching around to the back, are, going from left to right, audio out, then audio in. They are located below the SD card slot. I should point out here, that with a camera scanner, the camera just snaps a picture of the page(s), so if you have say a 200-page book, you can snap a book in about 10 minutes or so. Just a thought. Hi Theresa. Correction, there is a microphone jack on the mac mini. If you're looking at the machine and you reach around to the back, from left to right, toward the bottom of the machine, there is the headphone/audio out jack, and to its right, is the microphone/audio in jack. If you have a line-in jack on the back of your mac, it's possible, that it might also serve as a microphone jack. You might try it and see. extracting contents of zipped files on the mac
Hi folks. When I try to open a zip file on my mac, it seems to only want to make another copy of the file. How do I tell the archive utility to extract the file? great newspaper app
Hi, listers. For those of you who enjoy reading newspapers, here's a great app for the Idevices, called EARL. It is available in the U S app store, but don't know about anywhere else. It gives you access to over 250 local and national newspapers, and speaks in 5 different male and female voices. The app itself is free, but you can subscribe to the earl service for $9.99 a month, or $99.00 a year, for unlimited access to newspaper articles. With the non-subscription version, you can only read 3 articles a day. This beats any other newspaper app I've ever seen for the Idevices. I think the subscription price is well worth the money. When searching for the app, at least in the U S app store, it is the first or second in the list of search results. Take care all, and have a happy and safe Memorial Day. You get access to more of each paper. From what I've been able to tell, the nib newline app, you only get access to certain articles in certain sections. Hi. As I understand, you can read from an NTFS drive on the Mac, but it cannot be written to natively on the mac. The drive must be formatted as fat32. a couple of cd/dvd questions
Hi folks. I'm considering buying an external fire wire or u s b cd/dvd/blu ray reader/writer for my mac mini. I would prefer something I don't have to plug into electricity, but if it has to have wall power, that's not by any means a deal breaker. I don't care if it doesn't write to blu ray disks, but I have several blu ray disks I'd like to watch on my new machine. Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated and considered. My second question is, if I have a dvd or blu ray disk I want to extract just the audio tracks from, specifically if the disk has a descriptive audio track, is there Mac software out there that will do this? I've heard of HandBrake, but, unless I'm wrong about this, it handles audio and video. If it will handle audio only, and allow for the extraction of the d v s track, and if it is VO-accessible, I'll sure give it a try. Thanks for your help on any of this.
