Re: on screen keyboard

2023-11-24 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Gabe. I'm having the same problems as you. The only way to make the onscreen keyboard visible is to use either external keyboard or Braille Display and the space with dots 1 4 6 a couple of times to toggle to onscreen keyboard visible. I was looking in the voiceover commands list to see if I could assign a gesture to make keyboard visible but the only way I could see was through the Braille commands. It was here that I found some strange anomalies. Listed in my Braille devices was my Sony WH1000 headphones. Sure enough the show/hide onscreen keyboard command was there in the list of available commands but nothing assigned to it. I'm wondering whether you may have paired something like those headphones which could be sending some kind of command to voiceover to hide the keyboard? I just removed it from my bluetooth devices and will see if that sorts out the problem. Very annoying as I quite like the sound of those headphones. Quite why they should show up as a Braille device is a bit of a mystery to me though? Let's hope that resolves things.CheersThuyOn 24 Nov 2023, at 04:50, Gabe Griffith wrote:Hi, Sorry if I was confusing. Hi moses. If you turn off the speech with three finger double tap, you can
always get it to come back on with a rotor dial twist. Hope this helps?

Hi Kawal. Isn't this Braille input only? I have the Braille pen 12, which has
the display and Braille keyboard, but that's just under 1K. It has really nice
Braille dots and good keyboard, but no cursor routing, which makes it a bit of
a pain editing texts and activating apps. Also, the command to wake it up is
space with K, which overridess the keyboard help command. Hope this helps?

Re: aThe slim Braille Pen.

2012-03-31 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Kawal. I also have a Eurobraille Esys but with 12 cells. It's really good,
but mine has been a bit unreliable and I've had to send it back 3 times for
updating firmware and repairs.
Also the note-taking functions are very basic and the diary crashes every so
often, so I have to keep resetting it. My favourite setup at the moment is the
Iphone with a Braille connect 12 and Riitek Keyboard stuck over the top of the
connect 12 with velcro. It's a really compact setup with qwerty input and
braille output. The other good thing about the Braille connect is that it has a
standby mode and wakes up whenever the iphone comes on so you can see the
caller id even when the speech is turned off. They used to do a 24 cell version
of the Braille connect too, but Humanware never sold any in this country (UK),
which is a real shame in my opinion.

Re: Another question about the I Phone.

2014-03-12 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Kawal. You have to select the message you want to forward either by
doubletappping or doubletap and hold, then make sure the rotor is set to
action, and swipe up or down to the more option and double tap. then you get
choices to delete or forward which are at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes,
the onscreen keyboard is still up which makes it slightly annoying to try and
locate those delete or forward buttons. Hope this
helps?

2014-05-19 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
I've been finding this issues waking up my macbook air running mavericks, but I
thought it was because the battery was dropping to below 15 or 20 percent. Now
I'm wondering if it is a problem with voiceover depending on which voice is
being used. I have been using acapella and tried changing my default voice to
Alex, and haven't experienced this sluggishness since. Hope it works for you
all too?
Cheers

Re: Lock Rotation on an iPad 2 *WHERE* in control center?

2014-06-17 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Mark. The side switch may already be set to lock rotation, in which case it
will not appear in the control centre. You can find the setting for the side
switch in settings/general. It can be set to mute sounds or rotation lock, and
whichever one is selected, will put the other in the control centre. Hope this
helps?

Re: Headphone bug still exists on the I phone.

2016-01-24 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Kawal. One workaround for this is to go into
settings/general/accessibility/call audio routing and setting it to bluetooth
rather than auto. If you don't have the bluetooth headset switched on, the
audio still goes through the phone's earpiece as usual, but if the bluetooth
headset is on, you can use them to make the call as expected. Hope this helps?

Re: I am frustrated.

2015-10-16 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Kawal. I wonder if the status cell
has been switched on by mistake? I remember in an older version of ios that
used to crash if the status cell is on. I wonder if the restore from backup
didn't bring across althe settings properly. Try setting it up with the speech
and maybe forget the device and try pairing it again. Hope you can get it to
work ok. I know how frustrating it is, especially when you get so reliant on
using the braille.

Re: alternative vm software

2010-08-14 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
I have compared Parallels and Fusion and have found the latter to be way
faster. I think there must be an issue with his config because mine was very
fast even with its default Ram allocation of 512.

Re: Bluetooth Brail Display without Keyboard

2013-07-24 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Erik. The EuroBraille esys displays can have the input keys disabled or the
BrailleConnect displays have the input keys recessed so that they are below the
level of the
top plate of the chasis, which makes it difficult to inadvertently input
Braille. Hope this helps?

Re: just a suggestion, Selecting on Iphone

2017-03-21 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Ramy. You can select text by including text selection in the rotor. You have
to go into general / accessibility / voiceover / rotor. Make sure you double
tap on it to check/select it. Once you rotor to text selection, swiping up or
down goes through the selection types i.e character, word, line, heading and
select all. Then double tap once you chosen which element to select by. The
only slightly tricky thing is if you need to select from a certain point in the
text. You have to navigate to that point using move by character, word or line.
Then you have to turn the rotor to text selection and swipe up or down to the
type of selection required as stated above. Hope this helps
Cheers

Re: just a suggestion, Selecting on Iphone

2017-03-22 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Ramy. Have you been able to put the text selection option into the rotor? If
so, this should work in an email message, on a safari web page, in a note text
field etc. It doesn't seem to work in the messages app if you are reading
someone else's message, but if you are composing a message, it works in the
edit field. So if you just want to select 2 words, first set the rotor to
words, then swipe up or down to the word you want to start selecting from. Then
turn the rotor to text selection. Now swipe up or down till it says word
selection. Now swipe right and it will speak out the word to be selected. Swipe
right again and it selects the next word. Now turn the rotor to edit. Now swipe
up or down till it says copy. This copies the selection to the clipboard. Now
go to the document or message you want to paste the selection into. You might
need to double tap in the edit field to make sure that quick nav is turned off
and you are ready to paste into the text area. You might have to double tap a
couple of times to make sure you are either at the start or end of the field.
Otherwise if you want to paste in the middle of the text, then turn the rotor
to words, and swipe up or down to where you want to paste the selection. Now
turn the rotor to edit and swipe up or down till it says paste. Finally double
tap, and the selected text should be inserted at that point. Hope this explains
ok.
Cheers
Thuy

Do you know if it's possible to pause a recording and resume without creating a

Re: Is anyone else having issues reading Kindle books on iOS using a braille display?

2018-01-23 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Des and anyone else experiencing these issues. I too was having these
problems and tried several Braille Displays and still the same problems with
turning pages with the panning buttons with every Display including the Focus
40 that seemed to work ok for Mark. That got me thinking about changing some of
the viewing options. I think Mark can see a bit, so I wondered if he might have
increased the font size in his kindle viewing options. So i pressed the
increase font size button a few times, and hey presto, the page turning seems
to be working now. So give it a go and see if it works for you as well.
Cheers
Thuy

Subject: No more hardware escape key on upcoming MacBooks

I just saw an article talking about how you can re-map and existing key,
such as control, caps lock, command or option, to take the place of the
escape key which is going away on the new MacBooks to be revealed on
Thursday. There will still be that functionality on the new magic track
bar or whatever they're calling it. But if you are a person who wants to
have a hardware escape key, you will have to remap an existing key to get
it. For those of you who use caps lock for voiceover, good luck. I have no
idea how that Mike coexist with this new functionality. Or you're stuck
with the new magic track bar and it's soft functionality. Could be
 interesting.
