Hi there,

I also have a Shark robot, and can confirm exactly what you describe here. App
is a hot mess right now. Shall we try networking on this issue?

Try under Various. For the longest time it showed up for me there. Seems to
have gotten its identity sorted today however, and is in its proper place under
U.

iCloud observation, and a comparative question.

2011-06-08 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Evening everyone,

i've managed to gather updates across all devices, Mac and iDevides as far as
additional apps go, but am not seeing the same behavior when/if an app has an
update. In other words, updating is still a manual process. Anyone else seeing
this? Other than that, I'm loving this service so far, and cannot wait until it
truly earns its legs a few months from now.

Thanks in advance

Visual input concerning screen brightness.

2011-06-08 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Hi again all,

For those of you who choose to dial your brightness down on your Mac, but who
choose to have it bright enough to be able to be adequately viewed, should you
need it via sighted assistance, I'm told it's still perfectly fine at 10 to 15%
brightness. Just thought I'd share that observation with the list.

Hi there,

I've had my macbook Pro for approximately six weeks, and am every bit as in
love with the switch now, as I was the day I first discovered it. Don't get me
wrong, you'll have frustrations, etc, but that comes of any new undertaking.
Rock on, and a huge welcome to the community from me. Everyone here has been
excellent resources, so you're definitely amid much support.

Re: conversations in new mail

2011-07-22 Thread Shameless FanGirl
You don't, and can in fact merely tab over once you're sitting on the thread
you want to view. This will get you to a list of messages within that thread,
from where you can either use left and right, or up and down arrows to navigate
through them. To return to the threads list, either use VO left arrow, or shift
tab. For the record, to return to the list of inboxes, stop interacting with
the message list, (for me, this requires two presses of VO shift up arrow), and
VO left twice to return to your list of mailboxes.

Re: Adding voices

2011-07-23 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Open the VO utility, find the Speech tab and tab over to voices popup. VO space
on that, and arrow down to custom… select that, and you're presented with a
list of all voices available, including those from Apple proper. Arrow up and
down through the list, until you locate one you like, tab over to play, and you
can hear samples of said voices. Between the list of voices, and their
subsequent play buttons are checkboxes for each. Check all the voices you want
to use, tab to the oK button, and from there, software update comes up, and it
behaves like ago other install. I downloaded 7 of them last night via this
method, was able to do them simultaneously, and it was easily the fastest
nearly 3 gigs I've ever downloaded. :)

I Hope that helps you

Re: Mac arrives today.

2011-05-02 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Evening all,

There is much to report, but the long and short of it is that setup went
beautifully, and sans even the smallest glitch. Mac is connected to my network,
Safari is behaving beautifully, I've updated approx 9 software titles which
needed it via software updater, imported ringtones and Apps into iTunes,
configured all three of my mail accounts, and am about to install Skype.
Commanders trackpad and keyboard are both configured, and overall, a fabulous
experience has been had.

My stupid questions are as follows:

Pairing my BT keyboard is giving me problems. The Mac sees it perfectly, but
from that point, the pairing is unsuccessful. I'm sure it's me, since this was
one of the last things I attempted, and am beginning to flag a bit, but,
thoughts?

Also, am still slightly confused as to how one should best go about browsing
for folders for importing to iTunes/the Mac's file structure.

Barring all of that, this is a beautiful machine, and I'm positively in love. :)

You are all fantastic, I cannot express that enough, and indeed, those
instructions were absolute perfection. :) Spent today playing with Safari a
little more, downloaded and installed Skype, and have played around the app
store a bit. Thanks for your patient instruction; this is what makes the Mac
community the amazing place that it is to be IMHO.

Thanks again guys, and as always, y'all rock unabashedly.

Re: Apple Mail and gmail

2011-05-06 Thread Shameless FanGirl
This is perhaps a stupid question, but my theory is to begin from the
beginning, so here goes. :) Did you tell gmail to use pop3 from the site
itself? Log into your account, configure it that way, etc? I recently

I hope you get it sorted. :)

Skype for the millionth time.

2011-05-08 Thread Shameless FanGirl
I'm truly sorry guys for bringing this to the forefront yet again. In all my
preparation for the Mac, reading over the afore mentioned discussion matter on
this app is the one thing I didn't do. Skype is the only program thus far I'm
having issue with, which I'm hoping only means I'm a novice, rather than being
a direct reflection as to my density. :)

Will Skype read in-coming alerts, sign-in of contacts, in-coming chat content,
etc? Once in a call, how does one either end said call, or return to the
contacts list/any other area of the App? Any other pointers/things I need to
configure? Is Growl configurable for any of the above spoken alerts? If so, how
does one go about that?

Thanks in advance for any/all answers regarding this

Renaming multiple file extensions

2011-05-10 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Evening all,

Is this possible under the current OS, or are there third-party applications
which will assist? I'll be renaming filetypes contained within various folders
mostly. Also, how do you find audiobook builder to behave both given what it
does, and with VO?

Thanks a lot all

Re: Say Goodbye to Skype, Microsoft just bought it for 8.5 billion

2011-05-11 Thread Shameless FanGirl
I'm hoping not, but prior experience tells quite a different story. The latest
update to the WLM App touted VO support as one of its strengths, so perhaps
this is a step in some direction other than what has been over the years? Like
all of you, it's the long-term which concerns me most here.

P.S. I'm referring to the Windows Live Messenger app for IOS just to clarify. On

Other media players than iTunes.

2011-05-13 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Subject covers it. Are there others, if so, what are they? Naturally, I'm
asking more from an accessibility standpoint than anything, because obviously
other means by which one can play media on the Mac exist.

Thanks for any/all input, and have a fabulous evening all, hot though it is; at
least here. :)

Re: Other media players than iTunes.

2011-05-13 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your suggestions/replies. Upon finishing importing my
media to my iPod Classics, I'm off to have a play with each of them.

Hmm, I could have sworn I added you to Skype Carolyn. If not, I certainly meant
to. :)

Thanks again everyone, as always, you're fantastic.

Audio extraction from CD via the Mac.

2011-05-16 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Afternoon all,

What do you generally use to rip discs? I'd asked earlier-on regarding
audiobooks, however, at that point, had nothing to work with. Now there is a
massive up-coming project, and so I'm curious as to what works best for all of
you. My aim is to convert the discs into .m4b files in the end, so any/all
suggestions as to getting there are very welcome.

Thanks all in advance

Re: New text-to-speech voices in Lion

2011-05-17 Thread Shameless FanGirl
Personally, I'm sort of excited about the Irish and Scottish voices on
offer...Not voices you see routinely, so for that reason, I'm intrigued. Can't
recall their names at the moment however.

On another note, how do all of you prefer your voices? For instance, I know
someone who is almost obsessed with all his products consisting of speech
output be female. Always seemed a little weird to me, but perhaps it is I who
am the odd one, as I don't have a preference either way; so long as the voice
is understandable, and of amazing quality. Reply to this latter note off-list
if it's too far OT, just curious to know whether or not that's a common
standard when choosing a synthetic voice.
