Hi all, after changing email to Gmail thanks for the help it appears to be working. I notice I can’t see my own messages I send. I have seen this question in the past but did not need the info at the time. I have checked in my settings but still no luck. Second question do I need the all mail mailbox? Messages are not appearing in the inbox on the Mac. Thanks for any help. Max -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Reading ebooks on the Mac
Hi. Can anyone give some advice on reading e-books on the Mac? I've tried the Kindle and Kobo apps for Mac and they are both not accessible. I know that Stanza can read some DRM-free formats - but that only takes you so far. Are there any Mac solutions that are as easy to use and accessible as iBooks on the iPhone? Re: Reading ebooks on the Mac
Thank you Jane. I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 preview and it seems to be quite accessible with Voice Over. At the moment i can only read by page - but maybe i just haven't found the short cut keys for reading by line etc yet. I'm also finding that after every page i manually have to click on next page before it goes on. Do you know if there is a setting to make pages turn automatically? Either way, it is a massive improvement over the previous Digital Editions App which wasn't at all accessible. Jane wrote: > Hi there. Re: Reading ebooks on the Mac
Thanks. I've managed to download some books from Kobo and i'm reading them with Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 preview. Just to put it very clearly - you need to interact with the page, then make sure that quicknav is off, and then you can page back and forward with left and right. It works pretty well - although more control and the option for continuous reading is certainly missed. I think it is worth engaging with Adobe on sorting out these final niggles in what is a much-improved app for the Mac. I'd also encourage people to write to apple to request iBooks for the Mac. The access potential is so huge - and it is really silly that it should be held up by small technicalities at this point. Jane wrote: > I just use the arrow keys for previous and next page. Re: Reading ebooks on the Mac
It is working for me on Lion. I did have some crashes before, but i don't get crashes if i do exactly the following: 1. With quicknav on interact with the page. 2. With the very next key bress put quicknav off. 3. Then left and right works fine for skipping pages backward and forward. I've only tried it with Kobo books - but it should really work with books from any store that uses Adobe epubs.. Re: Stata and R for Mac
Hi Rafael I have now played with Stata for Mac a little. It seems to be more accessible than R for Mac. It is hard to know though, since i am just learning to use Stata and some difficulties i am having might be Stata issues rather than accessibility issues. The learning curve is substantial. Anyway, it seems you can do a lot from the built-in text editor and that you can quite easilly export your results to other programs. In other words, if some core functions are not accessible, there should be relatively simple work-arounds. I will post again in a few weeks when i've actually done some substantial work with the software. Please also post if you learn anything useful. Re: o. t.: Microsoft Office for Mac! Important: read and leave comments!
A few notes on MS Office for Mac OS from my perspective: -In my experience both Word and Excel are unusable. In Word I cannot actually write and read back what I’ve written. In Excel, I can’t navigate and manipulate cells. For these reasons I do not use either programme on the Mac. Really, this is very basic and MS should be ashamed of themselves for shipping such an unaccessible product. -The fact that Word is broken on Mac has forced me to explore alternatives. I’ve leart to use both Pages and Scrivener. I am now a Scrivener fan and would probably not go back to Word even if it became accessible on Mac. I would probably never even have tried Scrivener had Word been accessible. -I am encouraged that MS is seemingly trying to take accessibility more seriously. However, good intentions only go so far. Even their own operating system is inaccessible without extremely expensive third party software like JAWS. Apple has put them to shame with Voice Over. I will only believe in change at MS once I see it. Until they start putting their code where their mouth is, I will encourage other blind people to switch to Mac. Finally, my criticism above obviously does not apply to Sarah, but rather to MS as a whole. Thank you Sarah for joining the list and taking the time to read all the comments posted here. Hopefully you can be part of a new more decent MS. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: commercial ebooks on lion with vo?
Hi This is discussed in more detail in an earlier thread, but basically it's like this. The Kindle and Kobo Mac apps are not accessible. The only passable way to read e-books is with Adobe Digital Editions. You can buy Adobe incripted ePubs or pdfs from e-book shops like Kobo and then read them with the Digital Editions app. This app is usable, but you have to work around some bugs. I've also heard that iTunes will at some point get something like ibooks built into it. That is not confirmed though. Hope this helps On Aug 22, 1:49 pm, anouk radix wrote: > Hi everyone, > My new macbook air will arrive soon and I was wondering if it is > possible yet to read ebooks on the mac, by ebooks I mean commercial > encrypted ones with voiceover or built-in text to speech? > I know its possible on the iphone but I prefer doing it ona normal > macbook with my braille display if possible. > Thanks in advance for any information, > Greetings, Anouk, -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Just for accuracy. You do get what is called 4G in other countries in South Africa., although we don't call it that . Three service providers have 42 megabit services. The vodacom network has very good coverage. Only problem here is that it is still very expensive. Document navigation issues in pages and text edit
Hi All I’ve recently switched to Mac and i’m finding it quite hard to work in pages or text edit. I’d appreciate any advice on the following: I’m used to reading paragraph by paragraph in windows. Jaws has the simple control plus up or down for this. I cannot find something similar for Mac. I know VO plus P reads the current paragraph, but it doesn’t allow me to skip forward and back to the previous or next paragraphs. I believe the page up or page down keys might be used for this, but i don’t have those on my Macbook. I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks Max -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. Thank you very much for these tips Anne. I'll play around and see how it goes. Re: Document navigation issues in pages and text edit
Control up and down somehow doesn't work for me since it only reads one line of the paragraph i jump to. The key combination that did allow me to read by paragraph and jump back and forward between paragraphs with ease was shift-VO-FN plus up or down arrow. This really makes navigating in pages much easier for me. It is a bit hard to press all those keys, so it is worth defining another key combination for it. How to see what is in the bin?
Hi all, in the last few versions of Mac OS I have not found how to get into the bin to recover something I have deleted. Please can anybody tell me how to do this? Thanks for any help. Re: How to see what is in the bin?
Hi, thanks for the reply. that is what I have always done. However all I get is title of Bin ore as you hear trash. I can not get into the folder to see what is there. Interesting how in different parts of the world Apple change the names to suit. We use the word bin as you use trash.
