Re: iTunes iCloud
What implications might this have on those of us who share an Apple ID with a spouse or other family member? If anybody has any info on this, I'd appreciate you sharing what you know. Help with Pages + Training Resources for Apple products.
Hello folks, I haven't had much need for templates within Pages just yet. That being said, I need to put together a resume, and I wanted to take advantage of the resume templates available in Pages. I get a lot of extraneous chatter which sounds as if it's in a foreign language, but none of my region settings have been changed. Is there something I'm missing with regard to templates in Pages? Is there a step by step guide out there on using templates with Voice Over? Also, what Voice Over training modules can people suggest? I have already gone through the audio tutorials from Vision Australia. I'm looking for something that compares with the Windows based training modules available for purchased from Access Technology Institute. Formatting problem in Pages and Text Edit + Sharing with MS Word users.
Hello Folks, I currently write a monthly column for my mother's web site, and I have unrelated projects I'll be submitting for publication in the very near future.. I'm using a Mac, and my mother is using a PC with Jaws. When I send her Word documents that I have created with Pages, many of the words get split between two lines. For instance, the word depression, is split between 'dep' and ression' on two separate lines. I also have similar issues with other word processing documents, n Pages and Text Edit, which I have written for my own use. The only writing software I don't have any trouble with is Mac Journal, Story Mill, and Mars Edit. I would really appreciate any advice you can provide. I originally got my Mac for use with audio production software like Pro Tools, but I would also like to use it for all of my writing, regardless of the platforms the people I am collaborating with are using. Audio tutorials and demos for Mac/iOS was Re: Accessible MIDI Sequencing
Thanks for sharing this. It's very helpful. I know there are email lists, but is there a repository of audio tutorials and demos for the Mac? It would be great if there was a clearinghouse for all Mac/iOS software and hardware. I don't know of anything besides www.icanworkthisthing.com, www.maccessibility.net, and www.applevis.com. Macs and Rehab agenciesRe: Microsoft Office 2011 period
Hello all, I suppose I should count myself very fortunate. It took a lot of work on my part, but I managed to convince my Rehab counselor here in San Diego that a Mac was the best option for a new laptop for yours truly. I started the process in March, and I got my Macbook Pro just last week. It did help, of course, that I was able to demonstrate that I had work opportunities with people and organizations that were primarily using Macs. -Joshua On Oct 26, 2010, at 8:59 PM, Carolyn Haas wrote: > Hi Scott: > Denver Co, home of the lousy broncos and the lousier rehab department. It wasn't easy. Towards the end of the process, wen I thought everything had ben settled, my counselor spoke to somebody in the AT industry who told him that very few blind people use Macs and that they're not particularly accessible. It took about twenty minutes on the phone to set him straight. people whose livelihood depends on the AT industry staying pretty much as it has been for the last twenty years are scared, and it seems they will do some amazing things to protect their jobs. No worries. I think I might give Mac Sword a try. Perhaps I can prevail upon Zondervan to release an NIV module. Re: MP3 Books on the iPod Touch and iTunes
It doesn't have anything to do with the new version of iTunes. Make sure that you have correctly edited the tag information of the files. Sometimes it can be a bit tedious, but if you're not going to convert the files to .m4b, double checking the tag information is your best bet. Re: Bible Software
Last time I checked, Mac Sword only has Protestant Canon books, but the web site mentioned that they are working on adding books from other Canon, such as those used by Roman Catholics. The web site stated that this shortcoming has nothing to do with theology. It is more of a programming issue. -Joshua On Oct 27, 2010, at 9:42 AM, Courtney Curran wrote: > Hi, > Does Macsword have the King James Catholic Bible? Or is it another Bible? Re: concerning recent skype conversations
I installed Skype, and when I logged in for the first time, I got an image which VO could not read. When I uninstalled the latest version, and install an earlier one, I was able to sign in with no difficulty. I then updated the application from within Skype, and I have had no problems. Make your own custom iPhone Ringtone for free
I wanted to make myself some ring tones from songs that I had already purchased or ripped, so I did a little research. This is what I found, and it worked perfectly. I hope the rest of you will find it as helpful as I did. Feel free to ask any questions if you get confused. -Joshua http://osxdaily.com/2009/08/08/make-your-own-custom-iphone-ringtone-for-free/ 10 Easy Steps to Make your own Custom iPhone Ringtone for Free The iPhone, iPhone accessories, and iPhone ringtones are all the rage right now, so why not make your own iPhone ringtone? With a Mac or Windows PC it’s pretty straightforward using iTunes, follow these 10 steps and you can easily create your own iPhone Ringtone from whatever song you want. Note that songs with DRM will not usually work, meaning things purchased from the iTunes Music Store will probably not be able to turn into ringtones if they have DRM protection. 1: Launch iTunes 2: Find the song that you want to use for your iPhone ringtone, make note of the start and stop times of what you want to be the actual ringtone (the chorus, or whatever). 3: Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) the song you chose and select ‘Get Info’ 4: Click the ‘Options’ tab and set the start and stop time of your ringtone in the settings below. Keep the selection at 30 seconds or less. Click ‘OK’ – Note: I suggest making a backup copy of the song so you don’t accidentally shorten the song itself. 5: Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) the song again and select ‘Convert Selection to AAC’ and iTunes will convert the song as another copy in the AAC format. 6: Now Control-Click or Right-click the ringtone and select ‘Delete’ making sure to click on the “Keep Files” button 7: Locate the file you just created. Typically located in your home directory under Music > iTunes > iTunes Music and then under the band’s name, the file you’re looking for will have an m4a extension 8: Now replace the ‘m4a’ extension of the ringtone file with “m4r” , so if the file is named MrRoboto.m4a the new file will be called MrRoboto.m4r – you’ll get a warning about changing the file extension time but click “OK” 9: Double click to open the ringtone file you just renamed. iTunes will automatically add this new ringtone to the Ringtones folder within the application 10: Finally, connect your iPhone and sync your new ringtone! You can then select it as any other iPhone ringtone via your iPhone settings. This method will work in iTunes under Windows or Mac OS X! Update: If you have upgraded to iTunes 9.1 or later and you are having problems, you will need to make some changes to the preferences in order to convert songs to m4a ringtone format in iTunes 9.1. Other than the import settings adjustment to iTunes Preferences, the process is practically identical. You will still need to create an .m4a file then rename the extension to .m4r for iTunes to recognize it as a ringtone. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Audacity tutorial
Hi all, I recently downloaded Audacity, and remember running across an audio tutorial of the program a few months back. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I came across it. It was part of a presentation that was given on podcasting at one of the alphabet conventions, or at least that is what I remember. Does anybody have any useful information? I'd be especially grateful to anyone who can post a link to that particular tutorial. Mac Journal for iPhone not syncing with Mac
Hello folks, I am having trouble getting the Mac Journal iPhone app to recognize Mac Journal on my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. I have set Mac Journal on my Mac to accept incoming connections, but there are no machines listed in the choose a computer section of the sync data page of the iPhone app. Is anyone using these apps? I do a lot of writing and journaling, and the ability to share journals between my phone and my Mac over a wireless network would be fantastic. Thanks for any and all help. Mars Edit 3
Hello all, I just installed a demo of Mars Edit 3, and I'm having some real trouble with it. I know that Mars Edit 2 was fairly accessible, or so I was told by a few other blind Mac users. Is anyone else using the most current version? Could you give me some pointers? I was able to set up Mars Edit to work with my self hosted Word Press blog. I can't edit any previous posts or pages, and I cannot edit any local drafts that I started writing with Mars Edit. If for some reason Mars Edit 3 is not accessible, I would appreciate knowing what other folks are using for blogging clients these days. Re: A fusion question
Hi Marlena, Fusion is a program which allows you to create, among other things, a virtual Windows machine which you can run side by side with OSX on your Mac. I only recently got a copy myself, so I am unable to give you a detailed explanation of the program, but you can also use it to create virtual machines running various flavors of Unix or Linux. Re: blind note takers vs the mack book family products:Hi mary and marlana,
I tend to agree with Scott. An iPad, with a Bluetooth keyboard is much less expensive than a blindness specific note taker, and Mike Calvo reviewed a particularly nice case on a recent Serotek Podcast. An iPad may mostly be a media consumption device for our sighted counterparts, but, with the right accessories, it is a viable alternative to overpriced blindness specific products. -Joshua On Nov 8, 2010, at 9:11 PM, Scott Granados wrote: > Honestly, thisis my own personal take and I hope I don't offend anyne but I > don't like a lot of things about blind notakers so I tend towards the off the > shelf. > Being so grossly over charged for a device which is basically a mid > 1990S pocket PC or at best a dead windows mobile platform. Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover
If you're setting up messages for GMail addresses, make your filters in GMail, and the separate mailboxes will be created by default. Re: how does one transfer previous downloaded music from either your external hard drive and your i-phone 3 gs to your mb pro?Hi everyone:
I had a number of music files on a Windows desktop that I wanted to transfer to my MB Pro. This is what I did. 1. I connected to my Windows desktop via my home network. Assuming you have set up a network properly, you can view what is available on your network by pressing cmd-shift-k from within any Finder window. You may want to do this for some of the music on your iPhone , if the only location you have it backed up is on an internal drive in another computer. Alternatively, connect your external drive to your MB Pro. 2. I navigated to the files I wanted to copy to the iTunes library on my Mac. 3. I selected them, and pressed cmd-c to copy the files to my clipboard. 4. In iTunes, I navigated to my music table, but did not interact with it. 5. I pressed cmd-v to paste the files I had copied to my clipboard. Because I had not changed the default in iTunes of copying new files to the iTunes music folder when importing new tracks, the tracked were simultaneously imported into my iTunes library and copied to my MB Pro. Of course, there may be a simpler way to do this if you have home sharing turned on, but I haven't messed with that, and that wasn't an option for me, as I had needed to reformat my main hard drive. Fortunately, my iTunes library was on a secondary internal hard drive which was not affected by what ever went bad with that particular machine. Re: Some Apple Mail Questions using voiceover
Yes, they will, but they will not appear in your in box, as long as you check the skip in box check box when you create your filter. It is important to remember that your all mail folder is not the same as your in box. GMail works quite a bit differently than the way most people are used to mail services working. Also, it is important to mention that everything I am saying is only relevant if you are using imap, which is the only way I access all of my mail accounts, unless I am logging into them directly via a web mail interface, or SAMNet, in the case of my System Access account. Re: Reading word by word or character by character
You can either: 1. Turn on track commander by pressing VO while rotating to the right on the track pad the same way you do using an iphone/iPad/iPod. Then, you can rotate to the right or left, in the manner you're already used to on your iOS device. To turn track commander off, press VO while rotating to the left. or you can: 2. Turn Quick nav on by pressing the left and right arrows simultaneously. Then press the up arrow in conjunction with either the left or right arrow. iTunes question: changing songs to be sorted by track number when viewing an album

Mac Journal
Hello all, Some time ago, I sent a cross posted message stating that I was having difficulty syncing data between Mac Journal on my iPhone and Mac Journal on my Macbook Pro. I was never able to resolve the issue. I was never able to resolve the issue, that is, until I purchased and registered Mac Journal on my Mac. Apparently, while it isn't mentioned in the documentation, syncing journals over a wireless network will not work if the Mac running Mac Journal is only running a trial version. Once I registered the Mac OS version, syncing worked smashingly. Btw, Mac Journal for iPhone, last time I checked, was $4.99. It will only sync text entries, but it is quite accessible. -Joshua -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Music Notation software
Hello my fellow Mac loving musicians, What options, if any, are there for music notation software on the Mac? I know a lot of sighted people who use Finale, but I haven't messed with it, and I haven't touched music notation since I lost my sight, with the exception of a very basic primer in braille music. I know that Dancing Dots has some solutions on the Windows side, but I would really prefer to keep things Mac centric around here. Trouble with Story Mill
Hello all, I just installed a demo of Story Mill, and I can't seem to do a thing. All of the menu options are dimmed, and none of the keyboard shortcuts seem to be working. Now, I am a relatively new Mac user, but this is odd behavior. Can anyone who has experience with Story Mill give me some pointers? I will probably buy the program if I can get it to work, but I'm not buying anything if I am unable to even use the demo. iWork: Numbers specifically
Hello all, I am looking for some additional documentation on using programs in the iWork suite with Voice Over. I would especially like information on using Numbers, as that is the program with which I am having the most difficulty. I have a spreadsheet I created in Excel which I use to keep track of books I have read. I have columns for author, title, series, etc. I would like to know how to jump to a specific cell, if that is possible. Additionally, I'd like to know how to search for text within the spreadsheet, for example, I'd like to be able to search for "Anne Rice", and jump directly to the first cell in the spreadsheet which contains that author's name. Thanks much, Joshua -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. Inserting bullets n Pages
Hi all, Can anyone give me advice on creating a bulleted list in Pages? I would have thought there would have been an option in the insert menu to do this, but I guess not...
