Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

Ah, i had the same problem. What you have to do is go into settings
and clear it. I think you go under emergency notifications, and clear
it. Don't feel bad, had the same problem.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread Jed Barton
So i found out the reason why you have to clear this, cause i called
apple accessibility to find out.
The idea is if you get transported to a hospital by ambulance, your
emergency contacts will know where you are if you can't communicate
with them. When i thought about it, i was like wow, brilliant move by
apple.
You just have to remember to clear it.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread Jed Barton
Ya know when it happened to me, i forgot what happened, but for some
reason voiceover went totally stupid, and all of a sudden i heard the
phone ringing in my ear, and i knew what had happened, it was calling
911.
Now i actually work in public safety so we get these calls all the
time. The came on the phone and i said, sorry guys, accidental, and
they were very appreciative that i stayed on the phone.
Then my mom who was downstairs, called me and said you OK? I told her
everything was fine, and it was accidental. I'm glad it atleast
works.

RE: SiriusXM Radio online 30-day Free Trial as Of Today, 02/16/2014

2014-02-17 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

I take it this allows you through the app to listen to all stations?

Can you label the buttons, or are they in the process of fixing them?

When you’re in wifi range, does it use your wifi?

Cheers,

Hello all,

I have been a serious XM radio subscriber for years. Currently, I use the app
as it offers more for the price. For those who do not have anyone to assist
with labeling buttons, they are as follows from left to right on the iPhone app
categories, all channels, favorites, Shows & on demand, my downloads.

I have also found that once the buttons are labeld, they don't get lost when
the app updates. Hope this helps.

Everything from the last month is there, so that’s beautiful. Problem is: I
don’t know how to undelete these files, nor how to mark them for undelete and
then restore them in one go. I know that dropbox allows us to undelete files
and folders right from its own web interface, which is what I need right now,
but what do I click to achieve it? I can navigate to the dropbox folder in
question using the dropbox web interface, and next to each file I want back, it
says deleted audio, or deleted video. But clicking that does not bring the file
back. If you know how to do this with VoiceOver, please let me know.

Paul.

RE: accessing DropBox settings V 2.0.22

how do you route the mouse to vo, never had to do this

Both didn't work on my MacBook Air. But thanks a lot.

Danny's suggestion of routing mouse to VO while on the dropbox menu and
pressing option click on trackpad worked for me - it brought up the familiar
dropbox menu with 9 items, One of which was preferences. I was able to
navigate that dialog and switch my dropbox folder back to my user account on
the main HD.

the other way, routing mouse to VO and pressing VO Shift space for a regular
mouse click brought up a less useful dialog. It has a link to dropbox.com, a
choice to open the dropbox folder, and a list of recently changed files.
Then at the bottom of the dialog there is the word "settings", but it
appears to be just static text that doesn't open anything like settings.

That's quite correct. Even with 2.0.8 this is the case. I've written to
them, even opening a ticket and they haven't even had the common curticy to
get back to me.

How can I get to the dropbox preferences so I can set the dropbox folder

sound device question

2013-07-13 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guysHey guys,

OK, wondering the best way to handle this. I have a usb headset that I use
a lot, and sometimes I'll need to plug it in quickly, and switch to it.
When I plug it in, will the mac just automatically switch over to it?
What's the best way to go from the mac speakers to my headset quickly and
easily?

Thanks,
Jed

While the Mac will recognize your headset, you will need to go in to your
sound prefs window and change to that headset.

Jed,
Press command comma.
Find the tool bar by doing vo left and interact with it. Then VO right until
you hear viewing. VO space on that. Un interact with the tool bar and vo
right and the option for classic view is the first thing you hear.

I found the checkbox that says use voiceover, but it says dimmed checked

Hi, Jed,

If you're using Mountain Lion, go to system preferences, and press the Users
and Groups button. VO past the toolbar and you'll find 'Users, groups and
login options list". Interact with this list and go to "login options". Stop
interacting and find the checkbox that says "use Voiceover in the login
window" and make sure it's checked. Then you can safely command-w out of
that dialog.

some basic itunes help

2013-07-26 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

OK, I've had my mac for a bit, and now have an iphone. I know itunes can do
a lot for you, but I want to keep this really simple.
I don't want it organizing my library at all, cause I have a very specific
way that I do it for cataloging purposes.
What I'd like to do is have a bunch of tracks, in a folder, and just load
them on my iphone, is this doable? If so, what's the best way to do it?
I haven't even played with itunes on the mac or iphone yet.

Looking to keep it really simple like I did in the pc days of using winamp.
Also, are there any plugins for itunes that do compression or anything?

Thanks,
Jed

I use the free version of menuTab for Facebook. It's on the mac app store.

It meets my needs fine. You can navigate posts via headings. If you find
occasionally you can't vo-space on something, try mouse keys vo-shift-space.

The main tricks to using it are tabbing to enter text edit fields and just
pressing enter to post your text.

Subject: FTP

Hi everyone, I finally return to my mac after nine months of neglect,
primarily due to my PC breaking.

I am pleasantly surprised to find that I'm really enjoying the experience.
However, I cannot find an FTP solution, and since I work quite a bit with
FTP this is a bit of a blow. Apparently you can use terminal, but I can't
find a place to enter a password. I can find username and host but no
password field. I have selected ftp in the services list. Any help with
terminal for FTP would be very much appreciated. I tried filezilla, which
works brilliantly on the PC and is fully accessible on the PC, but sadly
this is fully inaccessible on the mac.

Thanks.

How do you disable these apps individually?
I see the on and off for this, but when I press on these running apps, it

Hey Ed, Thanks, that will be another option as I did see a bunch in there
that I barely use. For now I am keeping it completely disabled as I imagine
this is an issue that Apple will address in 7.0.1 I just spoke to a sighted
friend on an iPhone 5 and he said his battery life is awful, so at least it
is good to know it is not a voiceover specific problem so I imagine a fix
will come out faster.

 Hey all,

For the most part I really am loving IOS 7. The one thing that is a
concern is the battery life is horrible. I typically made it through almost
the entire day with not really needing to charge my phone. Yesterday, I
barely used it and I had to charge it twice. I am using an iPhone 4S on IOS
7, and know some of you have some fantastic info, and was hoping someone
might be able to compile a list of checks to use to get the best battery
life. I have turned that new motion option on as I read that saves some
battery life. I have closed a lot of the apps in the app switcher especially
all GPS apps. I saw someone mention turning off background refresh might
save battery life. What am I losing by turning that off, as I thought that
was one of the new features that iPhone was pushing, so by turning off I
would like to know what I am disabling. I assume it means apps will only
refresh when I open them, as I have noticed through out the day I would hear
Downcast refresh which I thought was odd, as I have it set to refresh every
8 hours and usually manually refresh it. I do have about 200 apps on my
phone so if they are constantly trying to refresh I could see that killing
my battery. I have my screen curtain turned on and screen brightness turned
down to 33%.

Also, if anyone got an iPhone 5S can you let us know howe the battery
life is? I plan to get one when the craze dies down, but want to find out if
people are having serious battery issues or any other problems.

 Thanks all

I feel pretty stupid here, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious,

Thanks for any hint as to how to get rid of them. Be well.

Accessibility of protools

2013-01-14 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

I just got back on the list as I am getting a mac.
One of the big things I want to do and I've ehard mixed roomers about it is
do some audio editing, hopefully multi track editing if possible. What's
the latest accessible program?
I know in the PC world, sound forge was the big thing, but that was only 2
track. I'm looking for something that does true multi-track. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jed

Hi There,

I've done multi-track editing with PT and have found it to be very
accessible with the exception of a few mixing plugins. This was primarily
PT 10, PT 7-9 seemed to work very well with voiceover.

Hello,

Sometimes if the screenshot is not very clear, it'll take a longer time to
get back. Remember that people need to actually read it, and so if it is
unclear, less are likely to do so, and the result is prone to be less

the moment there seems to be no better way. For the easiest captchas, it
comes back very quickly, but for the harder ones, some patience is required.

Let me know if you have any questions about the service.

have to login. Then there's a login link and after that the "create one

Can anyone help with mail

2013-02-28 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,
I need some serious help with the apple mail client. It quite simply isn't
fetching email, or even better, it's fetching selected email.
I'm about ready to give up on this thing. It has never worked since I
bought this mac. I can send messages all day, but forget retreiving. I have
to do it on the pc.
I was even on the phone with apple and all the setting look correct. Yet I
have sent literally 12 mewsages to myself, and didn't get a single 1 on the
mac, but they all came through on the pc?
Any ideas guys?

I wanna get my email to sink with my iphone, but appear to be having some

About at my end of my rope with this mail problem

2013-03-05 Thread Jed Barton
Hey guys,

4 hours later on the phone with apple, and still no progress on receiving
email with my mac.
I'm about ready to take this mac back at this point. Can anyone explain
what possible issues might be going on?
All the settings in apple mail look correct, but I can have the computer sit
there all day and not 1 piece of email will come in.
Yet when I check it on the PC, it all comes down. Yet, I'm getting no
errors when I do a get mail command.
This is beyond frustrating guys. Ever since I got this brand new mac, I
thought apples were just supposed to work. I feel like I've made no
progress on this computer in the alst month.
Does anyone else use gmail, and has anyone else had these issues of getting
no mail?

Thanks,
Jed

Hi,
It's Daniel, nice to see you on this list.
Do you know what error you get? Unless I missed it, I don't see the error
message you're getting.
Also, do you put in the settings manually? Or do you go through the mail
setup wizard?
If you do the mail setup wizard, the Gmail settings should work. Make sure
you have pop enabled for all mail on the Gmail site.
If this can help, try the article from this site
http://macs.about.com/od/applications/qt/mailgmail.htm
P.S.: We do have one another on our Skype lists, so contact me off-list on
Skype if you are still having trouble.
Good luck,
Daniel

I can't remember how it's done but you may either enable imap on gmail s
side or check their help docs from google to make sure settings jive with
osx. I use gmail with mail with no problems except for not hearing new mail
notification sounds but that's another issue altogether

Hi,

Gmail you say?

Could be that gmail is blocking you. Two things:

First, you'll want to be sure that imap and POP3 are enabled in your gmail
account. If they aren't, it won't work. You'll need to do this from the
gmail settings page.

Second, if you've got pop3 and imap set up, it could be that google is
blocking you anyway. If so, you'll want to go to this page:

Yes, you can. But if you are trying to check POP with only imap available or

Imap, maybe not, but in any case, go to that URL I gave you to unblock, then
check your mail again when it tells you to.
