Extra space before apostrophe in my Humanware Brailliant Display
Hi all, Whenever I use my Humanware Brailliant, there is an extra space before all apostrophe, no matter which application I'm using. I was playing around with commands the other day, so I might have pressed something that inserted this formatting error. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks! Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?
Hi all, I'm pretty new to the refreshable braille reader and the associated technology in general, so please bear with me. I'm probably goofing something up. I have a Humanware Brailliant Bi 40 and I have a Bookshare membership. I want to read the books in braille as I am hearing impaired, so I hate listening to books. I'm using the Bookshare Read2Go app, but I find the app clunky and difficult to use on the braille display. For example, some pretty basic commands, such as "scroll page down" doesn't work with the Brailliant. I know I can download a file specialized for refreshable braille readers on the website, but I prefer to read away from my desktop. Has anyone found a good way to use Bookshare with a refreshable braille reader? Or am I missing some tips? Any help would be enormously appreciated! Thanks. Re: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?
Thanks, but I'm looking for a solution that would work for mobile as I don't like to read books at my computer. (Bookshare's website offers a download file specifically for refreshable braille reader, but as I mentioned, I hate being stuck at my computer for leisure reading.) Thanks for the idea of VoiceDream, though. I'll have to investigate that. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like my Humanware Braille Bi 40 has storage. It doesn't accept SD cards as far as I can tell. (Nothing in the manual indicates that it can, but i could be wrong.) Re: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?
Caitlyn, You can go on the website and select BRP from the dropdown menu next to the Download button. You'll get a file formatted specifically for a refreshable braille reader. (But to read it on your device, you'll either need to do it at a computer or use a SD card on a braille reader that has storage). Everyone else, Thanks so much for all of your help. I looked through the tip sheet that Karen posted and it was very helpful. It seems like I was using Read2Go in a suboptimal way (not separating the pages, etc.). I'll, however, try out Voice Dream and see which app I prefer. Have a great day, everyone! Cristina On Tue, Mar 1, 2016 at 12:09 PM, Karen Lewellen wrote: > You are most welcome. Re: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?
No problem Caitlyn. Just another note (isn't there always?) you can go to settings or preferences on the main Bookshare website and make sure that the files are formatted for the appropriate number of cells. In other words, you'll be able to select "40-cell braille display" or "32-cell" etc. I haven't tried this out myself, but hopefully modifying the cell count on the website will make the reading experience more seamless. Seeking Feedback on Using Braille Displays with the Kindle App
Hi all, I'm pretty new here, so excuse me if I'm doing this wrong. Let me know the protocol. Anyway, someone from Amazon's Kindle team contacted me today to see how the braille display was working with the Kindle App that I'm using on the iPhone and iPad. I've sent him some feedback, but you guys may have more experience with it than I do. So, please let me know what kind of experiences you've had with the Kindle App. Thanks! Re: Seeking Feedback on Using Braille Displays with the Kindle App
This is great! Thanks everyone! Actually, I had been having similar problems with advancing lines and I had assumed it was my braille reader problem, but apparently it's an issue with the kindle app itself. Interesting. I'll send out the message to the Kindle team later today, so keep it coming if you think of anything else. Re: To the person wanting feedback on Kindle app and braille
Hi Lisette, Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. Somehow I missed this the first time around. Anyway, I've gotten reports of similar delays across brands, but the delays seem the most severe with the HIMS brand and/or large files. I've already reported the problem to Amazon, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll fix it. Thanks so much for the feedback! iOS 7 and Refreshable Braille Displays
Hi all, I updated to iOS 7 recently and tried to pair it with my Humanware Brailliant, but my iPhone says that the device isn't supported. Does anyone know anything about this? Any issues with any other braille displays? (I tried searching online, but got nothing.) Re: iOS 7 and Refreshable Braille Displays
Thanks, Alex. I will try these things tonight. Hopefully it'll work. On Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 5:30 AM, Alex Hall wrote: > That message has appeared for me, I believe. Contracted Braille bug in the iOS update?
Hi all! I updated my iPhone a few days ago and use a Humanware Braillant 32 with it. Now the word "to" is not contracted. As in, it's just to instead of dot 2-dot 3-dot 5, the usual contraction for to. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks! Re: Contracted Braille bug in the iOS update?
Yes, that was my thoughts too, that iOS switched over to UEB without regard to what I had set before. I'll look into how to switch it back to US Braille. Thanks everyone!
